This was helpful, thank you! I don't pay enough attention to governors. I rarely put a high focus on faith and religion but by the end of the game I usually have a lot of "extra faith" lying around. Moschka has a "Reyna-like" trait in that you can use faith to buy districts. This is nice in the end of the game for either building space ports or for bulking up a new city you start late. I didn't really understand Pingala's strength and will use that more. Again, thanks!
Glad you mentioned Amani. She is very underrated as a first pick. I would say using her is the most consistent way to get the first golden age without relying on barb camps or villages luck. Monumentality is so OP that getting it early should be a priority in almost every game, which means Amani is a must. Pingala is useless until second promotion, so the only other choice is Magnus for chopping a wonder like Oracle.
I’m not sure I fully agree with your take, but I definitely admire the Amani first pick bouncing around city states golden age monumentality strategy! I much prefer getting monumentality in the second and third era swap, when I can build up enough of a faith economy to support it.
@@VanBradley To each his own of course. I am speaking from the point of winning faster on standard deity. I mostly play for a sub 200 culture or science victory and it’s nearly impossible to win without early monumentality. Getting it around turn 100 is just too late because the empire should already have 8-10 cities by that point. It’s not like you are going to put off buying settlers/builders until medieval age. Plus it’s the same bonus for gold and faith, so you don’t have to rely on religion. Because monumentality so crucial, Amani is almost always best. Even then, Magnus is better second over Pingala. Don’t get me wrong Pingala is by far the best governor but it’s about the timing as you said in the video. Early game chopping out districts and wonders in the capital is key, so Magnus is much more useful than a few extra culture/science points. Once there are no more chops, then Pingala can permanently move in. Also don’t forget that techs increase your costs of everything so getting too much science/culture early is double edged sword. Only my opinion, but you can always show me how to win sub 200 on standard consistently without first golden age :) Either way, always great content!👍
Great point about holding on to a governor title to upgrade your secret society. I do this every game. However, I tremble at the thought of how many yields I lost thinking I wasn't going to get a governor title for an era or two, and then realize that I forgot that I would get one when I build the next government plaza building. Constant facepalming.
These are the kind of tuts needed for all. Thank you. I had a game where due to the city states, land and AI opponents, a religous victory seemed the best option. I picked Moksha and oh lordy. Watching the AI spam apostles and die debating was strangely satisfying. Of course that meant I had a lot of Faith points to buy Great people where the AI had spent them all on Apostles, so win win.
This was an AWESOME video, and was precisely what I was looking for! I can't believe it doesn't have more views, because it is sooo much better (and shorter) than the previous 2 that I had watched. Anywho, thank you, sincerely, for making this, and please take care and be well. 🤙
Not sure if there are many super sweet Moksha strats, but that dude can be a godsend when you have a religion for specific bonuses and some AI goes full ham on trying to convert you. Throw him somewhere for more pressure and healing on apostles and stuff. So while niche, when you need him, he can deliver.
I like to promote Victor quickly so that my spies start with a promotion. Helps keep them alive. Also helps with defense when the AI starts surprise wars
What about Suleiman's unique governor? Ibrahim+Agoge seems like an amazing way to pump out units for an early war. Rush to the +10 vs districts so you can quickly take cities even if they get walls up and then you have a ton of swordsman to upgrade into Jannisaries to really dominate in the renaissance
Other german speaking people here? triggered by the way he says Aachen tbh. It's pronounced Ahen, just switch the ch sound for a h sound and its fine :D Love your Vids tho!
I think you sold Liang a bit short in this video. Her first two promotions kinda speak for themselves, but if I'm a coastal Civ I'm getting her on the field ASAP. Why? By the time you get to her third promotion (Aquaculture) you've not only benefited from free builder charges and discounted districts, but by then you should have cleared the barb boats from your coastlines. You then cycle her through ALL of your coastal cities ASAP building those fisheries which causes the cities to grow faster and the flexibility to balance growth and production. With any luck you will have another perk from a Wonder, Pantheon or unique Civ ability to pair with the fisheries. She may not be the best but she's incredibly strong if you move her around like you would Magnus. (and fisheries are not one and done they remain even after she leaves unless or until the tile is pillaged) Finally you get the +1 production for each fishery in the city she ultimately occupies. She's dope.
Moksa is actually kinda decent for high faith civs if you get divibe architect just place a city appoint moksa and buy all districts you need its his only use tho so still the worst governor
Some nice tricks and tips, thank you. I have actually hit a snag in a recent game-Amanis' Foreign Investor ability won't work. I have her established in Kabul, she is maxed out. Kabul has a coal tile, improved with a mine - but it does not give me coal. The city state info also doesn't say Kabul has coal. Any idea why that is? The only reason i can think of is that i am not in the Industrial Age yet.

just because hes the generally least effective, doesnt mean he wouldnt work in certain szenarios. While you can probably get more out of magnus or pengala most times, there are arguemtns to be made to get a highly promoted moksha early

Where can I watch the game with all the governors you are showing?
Dont have it, is it a dlc or mod? (im way deep in civics and techs -turn300)
Impressive knowledge and presentation!!

how do you get it?
what button do you press to get to the governor menu ?
I'd like to see a score tutorial :)
Something about referring to the governors as "it" and "it's" is bothering me. But otherwise I like the tutorial.
Do you know why my game wouldn't have governors?
Governors are part of the “Rise and Fall” DLC pack. So if you’re playing Vanilla Civ or without the DLC enabled you won’t have them
youtube is much cooler. Only play with civic shuffle on, cuz the game AI needs the help LMAO.
i dont have any gouveneurs do i have a outdated version or something?
I'm sure that Magnus is useful, but personally I just hate chopping. i can't help it. it feels so wrong.

Love how he butchers the pronunciation of AACHEN. Also the city where Charlemagne is located a.k.a. Charles The Great.
