Einfach super!
This composer is one of the best recent discoveries I have made. His music apart from being beautiful and interesting in consistently good. I am surprised he is not better known.
Whether in the Klarinetten-Trio or Klavier-Trio versions, the piece simply takes you by storm. It has all the hallmarks of early Zemlinsky - age 24 - and a startlingly Brahmsian character that is nonetheless clearly not Brahms. Both instrumentations are deeply satisfying. So is the occasional homage to another brilliant voice from that era, Heinrich von Herzogenberg. Please share this gem with serious chamber aficionados!
Never heard of Zemlinsky before. Some interesting passages in the first movement. I will add it my audio archive. Thanks for sharing
Kind regards,

This is a very beautiful piece of the unerrated composer Zemlinsky. Mahler and Schoenberg eclipsed many great composers at that time.

Brahms was impressed enough by this piece that he recommended it to Simrock for publication.
Indeed, Brahms had earlier heard his d minor symphony and a string quartet and was very impressed with Zemlinsky's early works.
