    Thank you Doc. I have a 22 RGS & 2 times my dash showed no pressure in the front tire. I noticed when tires got hot on long rides sometimes it goes out. I checked when it came back on it showed 42psi. Now after watching this video im going to double check with a gauge not the system.

    I have a 2015 Road Glide CVO which didn’t come with tire pressure monitor. I’ve found some thing much better for those of us that want to have a tire pressure monitoring system. It’s called “FOBO”. For about $100 You get two tire pressure monitors, one for each wheel. They replace the tire valve caps. Best used with metal valve stems instead of the OEM rubber ones, my bike came with the OEM metal tire valve stems. Now the cool part, FOBO syncs with a FOBO app on your smartphone. You can read your tire pressure from about 32’ away (Bluetooth). Comes in handy if it’s raining outside and you’re still in your hotel room. FOBO has given me twice an alarm that I’ve picked up a puncture and in which tire. It also monitors interior tire temperature. FOBO is user friendly and can be adjusted to your tire pressure preferences. I have had these on my CVO for over 100K miles. I have no vested interest in FOBO.

    My 2016 Limited tpms is always dead accurate when compared to a gauge reading.
    While i don't rely on it 100%, it's a neat feature.
    I picked up a nail 50 miles from home and used it to watch rate of leak.
    I was also surprised how much tire pressure increases while riding.

    My selling dealer has told me there is a H-D Service Bulletin that states not to run nitrogen in the tires on my '18 CVO Limited SE 115 Anniversary "because the nitrogen will ruin the sensors". Now the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen. How can the 100% nitrogen ruin the sensors? And, without using a vacuum pump and totally collapsing the tire before replacing the air with nitrogen it seems to me that the most concentration you could get in a tire is about 95%. Your video was very informative. Also, my rear tire may show 40 psi pressure when first started on a warm day and riding 2 up on Texas highways I have seen it reach 50 psi pressure. After it reads 50 psi the next measurement will be dashed lines, no numbers. I have never seen 52 psi.

    Awesome, the absolute best description for temperatures verses pressure that I've seen, always an argument but I've always gone with 10° = 1 PSI and now I can show my friends - hey doc Harley even says the same thing. Thanks as always.

    Some guy posted his 19 RGS and his works. He just added 32700096 sensors and had GTS flashed to enable TPMS then turned on sensors and it worked. Today I bought the same sensors and in the process of changing out my stock wheels with CVO Aggressors. The big thing is the sensors are 8.3mm so the wheel's needs to match the stem hole size in my case the Aggressors do match, otherwise FOHO sells an adapter to reduce your 11.3mm hole if that be your hole size. My thought is both our Infotainments match along with the BCM's and my bike is essentially the same being it's an 18 RGS. I'll give it a go and update. The 18 FLTRXSE uses the same sensors and BCM which also accepts the same 834A Infotainment upgrade and I checked with the local Harley Tech who gave it a thumbs up. I'll update in a month or less.

      @@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Doc would you please let me know if there is a certain direction the sensor has to be placed along with toeque setting? Outside of looking at an actual CVO manual I could find no info out there. One end of the sensor is rounded and the other end is squared, so does the rounded end have to be pointed in the direction of rotation? I'm planning on facing the stem to the right and took pictures of the information on the sensors before I install them for the technician's benefit.
      note: I bought a 2018 FLTRXSE Supplement Manual which shows 54-62 inlbs and to not let the sensor touch the wheel while tightening I assume so not to cause damage to sensors and to face stem to right. The picture shows stem hole at bottom of rotation and rounded end facing reverse rotation but I'm thinking that shouldn't matter but since I'm not sure I'll copy it.

My local harley shot is telling me that they can't link the new TPM to my motorcycle, because I changed out the head unit. I still have TPMS working in my rear tire, through my speedometer. Good info and presentation. Two words come to my mind, “Over Engineered”. Why can’t they build something that doesn’t care if it’s reading air or nitrogen? The stick or dial gauge doesn’t care what gasses it’s reading. Always amazing how complex thing have to be.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The H-D sensors are built for air and not nitrogen. To my understanding new components/materials have to be added to the TPMS (with added cost) to use nitrogen in tires. Not all areas/dealerships have nitrogen.

    I have an Harley Davidson CVO 2017 Ultra Limited
    My rear tire sensor is still reading high as the tire heats up. I check the tire cold to match what the bike is showing, and it's 2 to 3 psi off.
    Example: If the tire is cold, it reads somewhere of 37 psi abs as I ride it goes up to 42 psi and as I increase the speed above 80 it reads between 44 to 48 psi. When I stop, it decreases down by 2 to 3 psi
    Any Suggestions

      First the TPMS was and is never accurate. I believe it was ment to help you see a drastic change ie a nail leaking. In your owners manual there is an equation for psi adjustment due to outside temperature. Your post reflects the equation results. We learned in high school science class that heat has a direct effect on air pressure in a closed system. The friction of the tire on the road creates heat which in turns increases tire pressure. My suggestion is to enjoy the ride….Doc

    Thank you for the comprehensive detail you put in to your videos. I have a question closely related to this topic. I own a 2020 ultra classic. I recently made some changes, specifically, I change the front tire to a fat tire. In this video you mentioned that the sensor is calibrated and not interchangeable. As a result, I get a low tire pressure notice on my display, FR26 appears on the odometer display and finally, both tire icons remain lit in the MPH and RPM display. Is there a fix or bypass to correct these issues?

      Since this video, HD has commonized the sensors. but I believe the internal Software for the Vehicle (it knows what model and tires this bike should have) will get in the way of modifications. If you are willing I believe the TPS can be shut off so the indicators won't be in your display...Doc

    I understand changing ABS wheel bearings when changing wheel size but i don't understand how the tire pressure sensor would be affected by wheel size. I have changed wheel size front and back on a CVO and the system seemed unaffected. Mounting the sensors in the new wheels was a issue because of the size and location of the valve stem holes in the aftermarket wheels but the sensors can be mounted to the wheel separate from the valve stem. The stem has nothing to do with the pressure sensor other than it is what is used to mount the sensor to the wheel.

    My friend has a CVO2016
    Lately the infotainment center has been getting the wrong tire pressure info. Suddenly the pressure goes up, then down (the yellow light for flat tire also shows up).

    @DocHarley , I’m in a hot climate and my rear tire regularly hits that 52 psi where the Tpms reads “HI” instead of a number. Does that mean it’s too high to ride on or just to high for the sensors to read. I’m always worried about that and in the past I’ve stopped and let some air out to bring the hot psi down to say 48. What do you recommend.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First when it comes to tire pressure. Purchasing a top quality air gauge is the first tool to buy. Second as you have done, research the correct tire pressure FACTS. Then set to those figures.
      You are correct. The pressure sensor has a limit. This does not mean the tire is compromised. As long as the Cold pressure was set correctly the tire will perform correctly…..Doc

TPM is a pound under what the gauge shows. Being it was 81 degrees in the garage I set my front at 37 and my rear at 41 . The TPM is showing 36 and 39. I havent rode the bike yet to see exactly what its going to read. Do you know the dealer told mea while ago to overfill the tires!! it yeah right they said the TPM has been a problem but they wont fix it. Typical Harley dealers sell you a bike and don't want to do any work on it.

    Doc, out of curiosity, you mention the RF antenna under the seat. Is that incorporated inside the BCM? I've had issues on my 2020RGL with the Red Security/Warning light on, and the Tire pressure indicator blinks and throwing Coo83h, C2000h, and C2001h. This results in the front and rear displays showing - - and no pressure associated. Have had it at my local harley dealer several times over the last year. @Low Country Harley-Davidson
    Thanks much....

    What’s the scoop on tire pressure and heavy riders. Between myself and my wife we are overweight and on longer trips my rear tire pressure goes up quite a bit. What’s the max? Should I compensate by dropping a few PSI? I know the obvious solution is to lose weight but until then…? 😆

    Garmin GPS also has a tire air pressure monitor system for motorcycles that don't have a factory system. I have a Garmin 595LM on my 2011 Street Glide with tire monitor front and rear, it seems to work and when or if a tire gets low it talks into my helmet head set.

    After exchanging the sensors do we need any specific tool to calibrate the sensors?

      System seems kind of useless, limited battery life, so when the battery needs to be changed it’s going to cost you at the dealer for the change out, there are plenty of third party TPM’s that the battery is in the cap and you don’t need all the other calibration garbage.

    • @gregwatson8246

      I’m glad I have the TPMS. Started my Street glide the other morning and got a low rear tire pressure warning. 23psi. I looked at the tire and thought no way.
      I checked the pressure and sure enough. It was way low, so I looked more closely and found a screw in the tire tread. Did a quick plug repair and been fine ever since. Without TPMS I would have ridden off that morning and had a flat tire or worse later that day.

    I love watching Doc Harley - he is extremely knowledgeable. However - this review on the Harley TPMS system left me wondering how to setup thresholds on this system. I had to go to my HD mechanic to ask this - and the reality is - you can't set the TPMS thresholds (low and high) on the *INFOTAINMENT* system console. This can *ONLY* be done via the Digital Assistant. They can set thresholds and then flash the BCM for the new values - which you will not see on your infotainment (high low values, just current tire pressure for front and back). So - this review was a major miss for Doc Harley. He didn't cover this information, which - usually he does and goes into great detail - which is why I watch him.

  • @jeffreyharvey6382
    @jeffreyharvey6382 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the tire lamp comes on at 3 psi while your above 25 mph does the tpms transmit that immediately when the condition happens or does it transmit in the 64 second interval? I noticed a 2019 SGS has a tire lamp when turning on the key. I guess it is not operative?

    Doc: you need to explain why the TPS is not accurate with 100% Nitrogen. Isn’t 38 PSI of air the same as 38 PSI of nitrogen as far as tire performance is concerned? The only difference I can think of is that the calculation of how much to increase the cold tire pressure for each 10 degrees of outside temperature would be different with 100% nitrogen. Does the TPS measure temperature?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Temperature is not measured. Air is used to calibrate the TPMS. Use of 100 percent nitrogen does affect the accuracy of the system.

    I have a 2016 FLHXSE. Both (first my rear, tben shortly afterward) TPMS failed. I had wild pressure readings at first then flat lined the rear, shortly afterwards, the front simply flat lined. I haven't had tire pressure features on my bike for almost a year. I keep being told that the sensors are on national backorder with on end in sight. (I have 99,000 miles on her) How long or where can I go to get this repaired?
