Holy crap I just discovered Peter's channel this week, I was wondering if you'd ever interview him. Love the info he puts out and the way it's presented.
Went into this without knowing who Peter was. Turned out to be a great discussion! Some of the things he mentioned you really only figure out after a decade of serious lifting.
Mike Mentzer was writing about close grip movements for chest pressing and chinning/pulldowns since the 90's. Also the benefits of heavy dips and chins since the 80's.
This is so awesome thanks Alex! I been watchin pete lately love his stuff...but been watchin you Alex since the OG days. You, chris jones and wes watson changed my life when it comes to fitness !!! Thanks for all the knowledge and clutch info over the years man. Been awesome seeing u get bigger n bigger slowly over the years...like a real natural. No roids...just rage lol.
Thanks Alex and Peter, really feel like I could relate to a lot of Peter's lifting experience. It's nice to be able to relate to someone who had similar issues growing, and what work-arounds they employed to finally grow. Back and Biceps have always been difficult for me to connect with unless I'm using lighter-ish weight.
Alex I don't know how you do it. Most of these interviews I have never watched a video with the guest but you somehow always have incredible discussions and make me watch a 2 hour interview no problem. You also don't just do repetitive talk or fillers like a lot of channel, you discuss something different with all your guests and bring out very niche but important topics. Well done.
I used to use a wider grip on bench press because I’m 6’4 so my arms are long, but I would always get shoulder pain and I got turned off from barbell presses. However, I recently switched to a closer grip (just slightly outside shoulder width) and now I get zero shoulder pain, and the chest & tricep gains have been great
I'm a man who loves wire chest flys more than most people. The contraction of the wire chest fly is superior, but like you said we're talking about the stretch. The stretch on the dumbbell chest fly is 2-3x more than what I feel using a wire chest fly. I think they are both good of course. Strech for the dumbbells, contraction for the wires.
How about that strength standard video. Similar to the one you did with strict Press for Big delts. You can do Bench for chest, Shrugs for traps, Squats, etc.
Uh oh, the dreaded calves topic! Tbh I love training my calves. Seated is my favorite at the moment: 1 second stretch at the bottom for me (as deep as I can) and 1 second contraction (with really forcing the squeeze). Now that I've been training them this way for a while, I'm not super sore afterward (slightly noticeable when I stretch), but I can get a lot of disruption after a couple hard sets. If I try that same stretch / contraction approach to standing raises, I can get insanely sore and lots of disruption. Still trying to figure out what works for standing. Totally agree on heavy sets for seated raises (8s are great) and high reps for standing (20+).
As someone who's watched TH-cam fitness content since the Mike Changs days, can I say how unbelievably great the quality of content has gotten. Night and day different vs the old days.
59:30 I used to think this was the way but I don't anymore. I think it's okay to waste time and struggle to learn things that you might've read or watched in a video. It's part of the journey, to learn the hard way. Everyone is in a rush to do everything efficiently and free up time but for what?
17:38. I was doing 50-70 lb (musta been questionable form) chest flyes at 17/18 years old and my chest was by far more developed than anything else. I even stopped doing them because my chest got too developed imo to everything else at that time. would love to do one of these talks with u sometime
29:44 this is me but w front squats w my heels elevated. I do it after deadlifting and I swear my lower back feels great after. Great quad builder for me.
You guys should dive into Phil Hernons training style. Lots of similarities as far as training Arms with Legs so they are fresh instead of say Triceps after Chest.
Never heard of this gentleman but this exactly what I find interesting and want to learn from. Thanks for sharing, subbed to him and will listen to this while I workout.
Awesome! I just started to weight my pull-ups. I worked up to 11,10,9,8 strict pull-ups. My plan is to do 4 reps, 3 sets of backoff BW 10,9,8 for my first week. Next week is 2 sets, 5 and 4 reps for weighted, 2 back offs 10,9. Week 3 it will be 3 sets weighted 6,5,4 and one back off 8 to 10 reps. Week 4 weighted 7,6,5 one back off 8-10 reps and week 5 will be 8,7,6 and no back off. Increase weight at week 6 and start over.
I've been 'torso dominant' for years. I come up with a split to improve that and its working well. It's pretty basic too. Day 1- chest/back/traps 6-10 Day 2- shoulders/arms/forearms 6-10 Day 3- Legs/glutes 6-10 Day 4- chest/back/traps 15-20 Day 5- shoulders/arms/forearms 15-20 Day 6- Legs/glutes 15-20 Day 7- Rest. REPEAT Make it as brutal as you need, my workouts usually last around 90 mins. It's tough but is working nicely

Yeh same... i always thought in my mind that calves are so used to lighter loads (mainly body weight) and endurance that if i trained them for 5-10 reps, slow full rom with very heavy weight it would produce more growth... but lightweight, minimal stretch and very high reps like 30+ burn like hell and the pump is insane that you can't walk properly.
