- An hours Metro ride from Paris and we’ve arrived at the incredible Château de Versailles, dating back to the seventeenth century this vast palace and gardens cover 800 hectares. Take it from me, it pays to plan your visit, the lines you see in the video to get into the palace are for people with tickets and to visit inside was fully booked a week in advance so sadly I didn’t get the opportunity to see inside. We do however have the opportunity to explore the gardens, and wonderful fountains, I was most impressed with the Bosquet de la Colonnade, a circle of columns featuring a ring of fountains. The weather wasn’t great but its such a beautiful place to visit, well worth the journey out of Paris and a lovely place to bring a picnic in summer.

Mi primera referencia sobre este maravilloso palacio la tuve en mi adolescencia en 1972 a traves de la Revista Selecciones de Reader' Digest donde hablaba sobre los esfuerzos del Ministerio de Cultura de Francia por restablecer el esplendor de Versalles, desde entonces quede impresionado hasta que en el año 2016 siendo ya profesor de Historia en una excursión a Europa tuve lo oportunidad de visitarlo con tan mala suerte que por esos dìas había una huelga de los empleados de mantenimiento del palacio y no pudimos entrar, me sentí frustrado y triste, sin embargo con el favor del Señor Dios regresaré pronto a Francia a cumplir ese anehelo de visitarlo.
