Good to see you've fully-recovered from your illness and are making steady progress towards your goal, Ollie. Thanks for uploading. All the best for 2020.
For fun and recovery - try floating or Rest therapy/sensory deprivation therapy. ( somehow that’s a video I can see Simon doing.) I’ve used it post half marathon and found it helpful.
Ollie I don't mean to scare you but I have seen people go in rooms with sub 10% O2 levels and die. AND DIE. Because of N2. I work in Chemical Industry and N2 flushing is the name of the game for a lot of processes. Going into such a chamber is blissful too since brain doesn't go into chaos mode till CO2 levels go up which your tent doesn't have! As we say, when in doubt, take a candle with you. If it dies, you'll too so run away as fast as you can 14% is dangerously close to those levels. Sleep with a HR monitor tab and have it pinged to some loved ones device. As much as I hate the fact that you essentially replaced emma, you still don't have to die for it
Yeah, as someone with sleep apnea I definitely do not want my O2 going below 95% - and then all night long??? "I've got more EPO but I feel like a truck ran over me and I can no longer add 2+2".
I attribute hot hatha (the original 26 postures) to getting me acclimated to riding in the heat. There's a lot of gut-crushing postures too and that helps with getting me used to being in the drops in the heat.
Recovery improvements IMPROVE your recovery time, so in this regard it is good, however, the adaptations that occur within the muscle to increase performance are 'driven' by mechanisms that cause the pain. By getting rid of the pain the adaptations that occur are SMALLER than if you just deal with the pain... So, if you were riding a stage race and needed to be on good form every day (e.g. say you were Geraint Thomas aiming for the TdF) then icing and compression is good. However, if you were still say Geraint Thomas, but now you're at say Paris Nice and using the race as training then you should avoid icing, compression, etc. for better adaptations.
Where are these recovery boots? About altitude tents. In several countries - like Italy - they are banned for doping, as not allowed method. I ruptured my liver due to a mtb racing crash. And then bought an altitude ten, cause I thaught this would help me, because the liver is necessary for our blood, and I thaught if this makes it more effective... had an great season finish and won several titles on TT and MTB. What I recognized, you loose weight too, and I slept better too. It also helps with high altitude winter training like ski mountaineering.
@@powerdot2328 And the EMS machine that was used in the trainers room when I was in college was the size of a file cabinet. Powerdot is the about the size of a large wallet--easy to travel with.
Hot shower and more importantly, a cold rinse on the legs, has always made a noticeable difference for me through the years....followed by a brief self-massage (I prefer a natural aloe gel...it's unscented, not greasy, and helps with any sunburn you might get in the Summer). Home recovery doesn't get much better, unless you can afford frequent massages...and who can?
I've genuinely been considering the Theragun or similar for a while now. How did it compare to that Powerdot thing (which reminds me of those insta-abs gimmicks)?
The altitude tend does not simulate altitude which has a lower partial pressure of all gases in air (hypobaric). It’s simply creates a hypoxic environment which is not the same. Also the evidence for these device is essentially absent.
The weight of the world hour record is on your shoulders, Ollie, no pressure. And all of this is truly epic, the prep and the moxy. But I am getting concerned about all these gizmos, not sure about the tingling machine and that sort of thing.
Just to remind: original video and image compression algorithms were designed to fulfill requirements for adult entertainment web industry. So, while some suggestions and associations look right, but I'd bet that you are late: the theragun was evolved from that existing and entertaining application, not the other way around, as comments proposing.
Which ones did you find the most helpful? What scenarios do you think you’ll use them in? What would you recommend for the everyday athlete or active person?
1 my gf has one of those. Gonna ask her to loan it. 2 the unnameable is supporting this one 3 eh there's a popular pill for increasing your red blood cells
It should be noted that altitude tents are illegal in Italy and Norway. So if you use an altitude tent in either country you are violating their national anti doping regulations.
Not entirely sure WHOOP is worth it. It is subscription based and about US$25/month over a certain period. It does what it says it does, but a mid-level Garmin or even Polar device will do the same thing, without the monthly or annual subscription payout.
I wonder how the extra nitrogen content effects the nitrogen build up in your blood stream. I’m a SCUBA diver and nitrogen in the bloodstream that hasn’t off gassed can limit how long I can go at. given depth.
I believe that is because of the pressure holding it into your blood? At sea level/ higher altitude there is less pressure so it isn't an issue? (probably very incorrect, apologies, very open to being corrected)
89% O2 sat? That's like saying people with sleep apnea are fitter because of being hypoxic they're going to make EPO and have better endurance. If you're acclimating to it gradually and your body is maintaining 98% sat that would be different.
Shouldn't be walking and carrying your bike at the start there Ollie - whatever happened to the whole "why walk when you can sit, why sit when you can lie down" British Cycling mantra
Nice bunch of advertisement, however, the effects of massage go far beyond the mechanical pressure and vibrations. The simple fact of human touch may be as much or more important than the actual masseurs skills. Also, if you really want to learn something about the value of the WHOOP monitor, join the WHOOP group on FB. Or just use 2 other HRV monitors simultaneously. You sound like a pretty smart guy (occasionally ;)) so you would likely quickly figure out what am I suggesting here.
It is actually worse for your training. Your body does not have to fully adapt to training stimulus and you will not get all benefits that are connected with muscles adaptation to stress from hard training.
I’ve had the Theragun for a few months now and it is my go-to recovery tool now. It is great for recovering from travel too.
me too
Where did you buy it from?
Richard M, I purchased it directly from Theragun.
On amazon was 150 nextvday delivery
The Theragun does not look like a disintegration pistol, it look like... well you know... something else
I know what you mean, thought the same thing ;)
Was about the mention it. Thanks for doing it.
What does it look like?
Lukas Tran I knew this was 'coming'.😝
different HEAD attachments, jesus, you cant wake that up. oohhhahhhh!

Thanks Stuart
Why are we talking about cycling recovery I haven't even recovered from my New Year Party.

User input at 7:47mins says ‘shared your bed’ ✅ - giggidy.
I want to see the blooper reel for the Theragun segment!!!!
Can’t believe you didn’t try them all at the same time for ultra recovery !!

Thank you :)
Hey Ollie what bike wall mount did you use for the pinarello. Looking for something similar at the moment. Thanks Paul
Nothing worse than a knotted prostate.

well watching Abi Carver is the best part of Sufferfest, I mean, Yoga to relax
My favourite recovery method is a ice cold shower after I do my cool down stretches.
That yoga video makes me feel good and puts me in a positive mood too, Ollie!

Can we use orthopaedic Heat Belt to recover???
Great stuff!!!
Do the powerdots go up to 11?
Very cool!
love the Pinarello on the wall. Though I can just imagine the conversation at home:

I have restless legs syndrome, would this be the best solution for this problem?
Sorry Dan but I think Ollie has taken the trophy for best hair.
You're entitled to your wrong opinion ;)
The Powerdot is just a TENS machine which are available for about 10% of what they're charging.
Its an EMS not a TENS and yes there are cheaper alternatives.

What is the final conclusion on the powerdot ?

Why does that theragun remind me of that "shake weight" infomercial from a few years back😊
Im fifth. My wife said she was proud of me for not being first for once

Huh the teragun looks quite cool. might buy one.
Nevermind its 250 - 625 euro.
I've genuinely been considering the Theragun or similar for a while now. How did it compare to that Powerdot thing (which reminds me of those insta-abs gimmicks)?
I'm using huawei band 4 to monitor my sleep. Does the same things with the whoop.
I wish you would have given your actual opinion on the effectiveness of the various gadgets. I'm interesting in the PowerDot, but it ain't cheap!
*Master_hacker18* 1nst@gram retrieved my account in less than 15mins of chat..he can do yours too!!
OMG...I don't even dare to look at the comments about the Theragun!
What’s this full time job you speak of Ollie?
He claims he has one, we’re still yet to see some evidence
If Eddy Merckx had prepered same way he had made 50 k in a hour

That altitude tent looks one configuration error away from a suicide chamber.
Don't worry - they have alarms to prevent any mishaps!
What about those compression systems that have sort of a pump and plastic "boots' attached to it?

This was worth a like just for the first 4 seconds
I 'm sure I saw a Theragun in Anne Summers window
Try PEMF. You might be surprised.

Increased nitrogen hmmm maybe. Room O2 is already at around 16% so not much there. This may also be bunk.

He Everested it last year (and I think he was the first person to do one on that climb).

check out binaural beats on youtube, I swear it helped me to ride 100k's, improved my mental focus and I use it to recover too. muy bien!

Just do deep squats and try to stay for a bit at the lowest position.
Did Mr. Ollie try to ride for an hour on a track behind a pacemaker?
