Seeing one in person years ago. In was astonished of the R8 V8 with the led headlamps and the wide, low slung look. It look different than alot of supercars. It was just beautiful. From that moment on the R8 holds a special place in my heart as my favorite car, especially the original R8 V8.
I driven in 2007 my first R8. It was a V8 and at this time people never seen smth. like this. They made pictures and ask me to sit in. I remembering visiting a friend at night, and he asked me, God, was is this? I also took a ride with the sixyear old son of a friend, it was his first appereance in sportcars. He could not believe in what he sat in. It was his first experience on Autobahn we were going full flat, nearly 300kmh cause the V8 was not faster. (Mother was not pleased.) We later drove occasionally other, newer R8s but this old R8V8 is my best memory. I love the R8 nearly as much as I love aircooled 911s or 992GT3s. I driven so many other cars, Aventadors, 720S, 488Ferr, F12, Morgans, Astons, Jags, Lotus, AMGSportcars, so much makes and cars I cannot cound anymore, but the R8 is always in my heart. Another memory: a dealer wanted to explain that the V10 is a Lamborghiniengine. And I told him, no, it is not and this is great, it is a Audi Engine based on the normal V8FSI (not the one in R8) with two cylinders more and increased revs. He stared at me like nothing. A laydown for me was the Facelift of the second generation with the round exhaust and that it never was, other then Huracan (also plenty driven), develeoped further. So long Audi R8, I looved you from first sight to first drive till now and I will ever do.
I remember seeing an R8 at a car show in 2007 and was gobsmacked. It is out of my reach financially but that does not limit my dreams. An analogue to its abilities as a practical supercar is the original NSX.
First the F type and now the R8. With Jaguar and their new Draguar concept, us petrol heads seemed doomed. I like to think that in car heaven, the F type and the R8 are playing together on endless Welsh B roads 🥲
I ran a MK1 V10 Plus back in the day for around 4 years. Superb relative value and an event everyday, same colour as the one in this video too. It didn’t have the active dampers and for me was better for it too. It was a better drive than the Gallardo too but didn’t carry the badge cachet, if that’s important to you.
Excellent video, sad they are going, electric will never replace these cars, !!! A car is all about the way the power is delivered !! The sound it makes, the feeling of being pushed back in your seat, 250bhp can do that well.
I got the goosebumps and i almost cried... I am 37 and i remember every point of evolution from its debut, to its retirement. It is hard to see such an icon leave us... God bless it, and thank you for such a good episode of CARmagazinetv
One of the best car reviews of any car that I have seen. From the historical point of the vehicle itself to the beautiful takes/views of the landscape, to the editing, the passion for this car and lastly the emotion of driving it…..congratulations!
I’ve had my V10 plus for almost 3 years and it’s been absolutely - faultless - ‘Grinning like a lunatic’ is a real thing, which I experience every time I start up that V10. I genuinely don’t know what I’d replace it with, except maybe a Huracan Perf at £100k more..
I remember being in year 4 in around 2016, and one of the Y6's dads got a 1st gen R8 with a miltek exhaust. It sounded incredible and turned the heads of even the parents and teachers, but especially the kids, including myself, cementing myself as an Audi fan. My dad not too long after that got a facelift Audi SQ5 V6 (pre-diesel filter thingy) and it is the most memorable car I've ever been in, amazingly well specced; Metallic Daytona Grey on the memorable 10-spoke S wheels.
My memory is attending the launch of the V8 car at the Versace Hotel in Australia on the Gold Coast. Later memories include a fast lap in a V10 model with a racing driver at the helm and me riding shotgun on a wet track. The car downshifted perfectly in anticipation and the V10 sound was fabulous. I have sat and ridden in several R8's, but sadly reality never met my aspiration to own one.
For me the best supercar of the last 20 years, Audi R8 is just legendary and definitely my dream car :) still don't understand why Audi killed it, they should keep it as their halo item. James another great video keep it up :)
Regarding the steering feel, did you press the button with the checkered flag, putting the car into performance mode?..I think in this mode the steering feel is much better and in this mode the steering is fixed and not variable.
Driven virtually everything. Drive one of these then on the same day drove a ferrari 360 in manual. The 360 is million times more exciting like not even close. Day and night difference
Years ago a Friend of mine , took me to the German Autobahn Highspeed run , with his tuned AUDI R8 , and we were hitting nearly 330 km/h.....and it was easy peasy 4 me , before that I´ve had severals 300 km/h + Experiences with my tuned JAGUAR 8 XKR.
I think saying it starred in Hollywood blockbusters is a bit of an overstatement. Audi paid for it to have a very minor role... First gen cars were not without problems either.

My beautiful Ukrainian girlfriend pointing out the R8 on our way to dinner in my E39 M5 near the harbor downtown Baltimore.
R8 use to be my dream car but I see why they didn't sell well for its price range now. No one is choosing an audi over a porsche.. espically after being in and driving both. Levels.
they are going bankrupt because they've got greedy(lower quality cars with higher prices) and had a very bad understanding of what the next platforms should be; combine those and bam, gazillion lost.
What's your best memory of the Audi R8?
This video will be added as one of my best memories... brilliant work 👏
R8 v8 manual, click-clack at 8000 rpm. I've always looked at the r8 v10 as a lesser gallardo/huracan.

why was my comment deleted?
Great car, great video, great memories. Thanks CarMagazine. Thanks, Audi R8.
Our pleasure!
One of the best out there... A gentleman's super car... ❤
First car I ever saw with LED daytime running lights. Looked like a spacecraft coming at you.
R8 also had first full led driving lights and laser high beams... R8 LMX
I remember seeing an R8 at a car show in 2007 and was gobsmacked. It is out of my reach financially but that does not limit my dreams. An analogue to its abilities as a practical supercar is the original NSX.
One of the best Audi ever made. Thanks for the memories!😊
It’s not the end, we can always buy a used example ❤

The 718s are being replaced next year as well. End of an era.
@@pushatsinfrared Nope, just the begging of the end of woke companies.
BMW disappointed me when they launched the XM instead of a successor to the M1. 😢
@@kunalmore5212Total blunder!
TT, Camaros and Challengers are gone too
Very sad times. They should never have ended the model.
they should have done it years ago and replace it with a brand new generation;

The great R8 now joins cars that is being discontinued... This is so sad...😥😥😥

I have the v8 and it’s a joy to drive but I still have not driven the v10. I have heard the v10 with a aftermarket exhaust and it was crazy loud 😂
Sad times 😢
I bought a 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus Gen 2 a little over a month ago and it's amazing. The style, the power and the theatre are all intoxicating!
I'm both very jealous and very happy for you.

If I have the mean, I'll buy one. Such a pretty sport car.
Wonderful car, awesome video...
Very good video!
Yes, thank you for another nice video 😊
Thanks for watching!

The Audi R8 will always be one of my favourite supercars!!!

You are very right about that.
At least we have the Lamborghini Temerario despite losing the glorious NA V10 engine.
My first super car 😥🫣🫡🫵🏾
Where is that road, it looks awesome.
Was going to ask same,Wales I guess but Brecon or Snowdonia?
Wales 🏴 near Swansea
Long live the N/A V10! The true ICE supercars are just about extinct.
Driven virtually everything. Drive one of these then on the same day drove a ferrari 360 in manual. The 360 is million times more exciting like not even close. Day and night difference
We (The Petrol heads and Enthusiasts) are beeing betrayed! We need to change the automative world back to good!
damn bro this was my dream car i wanted to get it when i got older
They're also more affordable, reliable and easier to purchase than it's competitors. Flat 6's, NA V8's are great and all but this is a V10.
I really enjoy my RWD model!!
Years ago a Friend of mine , took me to the German Autobahn Highspeed run ,

Why did they ditch the blade. That’s what made the car (aside from the V10)
CAN someone share where this was filmed?
WHY? It's a Great Car.
Audis interiors are so painfully 90's vibe they really need to step it up.
When cars were cars… 😮😢
NET Zero is an absolute crime.
I dont think Ive ever seen an R8 in real life so it kind of never existed to me in the first place lol.
😭
I don’t understand if your going back 20yrs, why have you got a 24yr old doing the review, he as still in primary school when I had my 2006 R8 😢
The R8 will be missed, the TT won’t be

Sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad Story…I hate EVs
Just buy the old cars give a big middle finger to the new cars and EV garbage real drivers know the real cars.
It was never a supercar
620 PS. 0-100 3.1 seconds. 331 km/h top speed. Rocking a 5.2 L na V10. Supercar in every way.
@haviiithelegogunner907 Sports Car
How did the R8 change supercars? It's wasn't that great and was unreliable VW crap! No wonder VW is going bankrupt!
they are going bankrupt because they've got greedy(lower quality cars with higher prices) and had a very bad understanding of what the next platforms should be; combine those and bam, gazillion lost.
