It’s pretty usable Dan. The car rejection surprised me. I think I’d use something like this in really noisy situations or if I needed two hands, but I wish there was a way to fold it all up.
Hi Ian hope you are well. Great video and test, I may have to invest in one of them it works very well at isolating you voice. The Sigma lens definitely works great in low light and gives a nice sharp picture. Best wishes stay safe Jon
The Sigma lens makes the Canon take off Jon. Different thing altogether with that F1.4. There’s a lot of control ober depth of field, plus the excellent low light performance. Allows a lower ISO and shooting in ridiculously low light. The mic is useful for cars especially, although I did a daft hammer and axe test! I just wish the mic folded up for easier packing. I can fit it in a rucksack tyle camera bag but it doesn’t fold up in any way. Sounds pretty good though. Going through each lens starting next week.
So, perfect mic for hammer and axe hitters, as well as if you want to narrate thought the process of jacking a car. Got it... :D On serious note, the thing to look out with such mics are how well they stay in place. This one seems to have thick enough ridges (rubberized also?) to keep the mic fixated where you leave it, but some have very thin ones, that while keeping the mic fixated in relation to the frame & earhooks, fail on keeping the frame as a whole in one place. So with mine I end up re-bending earhooks and frame every time I have to put the mic on or off which was annoying to the point that I considered buying rubber strings they use on glasses to keep them hanging on the neck.
Well I used to perform in bands and I could probably attempt to dance with this on. I was tempted for this video; especially with that axe but I thought it might get taken off by TH-cam because of a copyright strike in case they mistake me for someone famous..... ; ) The ear hooks are like to old NHS glasses in the UK. They’re pretty strong and the bar that goes across to your mouth is really flexible. The only thing I don’t like is they don’t pack away neatly. Can’t fold them up or anything so they’re a bit inconvenient to carry around. It is rubberised. The earhooks do seem to keep it on my head as well. The hooks are quite rigid and at first, I thought they might fall off because the fit is so light, you don’t feel it on your head. (Or I have rhino skin) Because the hooks go right around your ears, they stay there. It’s surprising. It’s not good in the wind though so outside would need a fluffy. I was thinking of a bee coloured one so I could snap at it in public.... Then because of my age, I thought .... ‘I must be sensible’ so I’m looking for a skin coloured dead fly.
I really don’t know. The wiring must run up inside the loop. Unless you can open the capsule part and just unsolder and then solder in another capsule?
Well, yes ..... You can even use it with an XLR ..... If you have a converter! As it is, it doesn't work with a phone but you could buy a converter for it and that would be fine as with all mics. Not as convenient though with a converter coming out of the phone. You could get a lav with a trrs connector fitted .... A Purple Panda or a Rode Smartlav+ and then you wouldn't need a converter.
@@iancraig Sir, I am not very familiar with the world of microphones Do you know trrs microphone that connect to mouth with headworn and work with android phone? something like JK Mic-J 069 or rode hs2 lav mic not good for my job I'm call microphones with a design similar to rode hs2 and JK Mic-J 069 (Headworn microphones) rode hs2 is very expensive for me My final budget is $100
Actually, I don’t. The only thing I can suggest is use a converter lead on the JK mic. Generally, these devices are plugged in to a radio transmitter, not phones.
Hi Ian, impressive lens, not so much with the mic. Too sibilant for serious work i would say but I suppose it's cheap and cheerful. Nevertheless, thanks for the test and at least it does the job..
I've wondered about that kind of headset mic ... thanks for lettign us hear how it sounds.

Great video on using a mic like that . Very informative!
Thanks Patrick. I did it slightly tongue in cheek really because in reality, I was testing my Sigma lens!

great vid, thanks!
Thanks Matt. I had fun making it tbh. Ideal for lectures!
If you have a bad mic...and want to keep the unit is there a way to swap it out without breaking it?
I really don’t know. The wiring must run up inside the loop. Unless you can open the capsule part and just unsolder and then solder in another capsule?
How do i use this with a notebook / PC? Or Shure/Sennheiser Wireless - System?
It works exactly the same way as any normal microphone with a trs plug. Normally into a camera or recorder.
hi sir - can i connect (JK Mic-J 069) to my android phone? - for example connect it to xiaomi poco x3
No. Phones need a trrs plug and this has a trs plug. A trrs plug has 4 bands on it and a trs has 3.
@@iancraig can't use trs to trrs converter?

I wouldn’t normally use one unless I was chopping wood. Other mics wouldn’t have worked.
Also whyI put up the statement at 02:07
He's been watching too many episodes of Vikings.
Ethelred the Unready. That’s me.
Just keep the axe in the garage x
Hope you sleep well tonight..... x
