Because of their sense of entitlement attitude and the great pride they take in their colonial legacy, also the loss that can happen if they do because they earn huge money from the museums by showing looted artefacts of other civilizations and countries.
Original homes not having proper facilities to house the artifacts is metaphorical equivalent to forcibly taking someone's child because taker "thinks" that the actual parents can't properly take care of the kids.
Which the government actually does do when parents can’t do that? And often it’s for very valid reasons. I’m on your side but that’s a terrible counter to the argument, because that’s the part of the argument that might actually be valid. There’s plenty they should probably return, and if there is concern about iconoclasm or degradation then everyone very much should be concerned about that. Just look at what ISIS and Boko Haram managed in their few years of power, how many destroyed world heritage sites? The effects of empire still exist and unfortunately that applies to some of the places they things from not being able to care for them to modern standards. I’d always rather it be preserved for future generations than actually harmed. Britain absolutely should produce replicas though, especially for shit like some of the Greek Marbles though those largely aren’t technically “stolen”.
Read and learn history- this is like a 4 yr old. This all happened hundreds of years ago and most has been given back, but in many cases Pakistan and India are arguing over who it belongs to
There’s a groundswell of opinion in the UK to give this all back. That’s why he creases me up with this. Lord Elgin took the marble sculptures that adorned the Acropolis. They need to be returned. It’s a National shame. A Lakota Sioux “Ghost Shirt”, so important and treasured for Native Americans, has been returned from the Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow. That’s awesome and the morally right thing to do.
Have you been to Greece - I studied this, and the whole structure is likely to fall down in long term of 20 years. It’s a mess. Same as pyramids. Follow the money.

I was at the Museum of Scotland yesterday and saw some fake Japanese artefacts which the Japanese sent over as the Trustees of the Museum of Scotland felt that as the origionals should go back home. It did not say how they aquired them in the first place but it does happen that Museums in the UK send things back (just not the British Museum lol)

Several countries in Europe have convoluted laws. Norway will take away your "human" baby and say, you don't know how to take care of it (just like Britain refuses to give back the loot by saying you don't know how to take care of it). The point is - It was not theirs to begin with.
No country teaches the overall truth of the history of their nation in schools, no need to pick on the British in that regard. Do the Japanese educate their young about what they did in China in WW2? Does Turkey teach their young about what they did to Armenians in WW1? Does the US really teach their young the complete truth about what they did to the first nations or how they got Hawaii? Do the Belgians teach their young about what they did in the Congo? Do the Portuguese teach their young about the extent of their role in the slave trade? Name a country and I guarantee there will be a deliberately understated or ignored horrible aspect of their history as taught in school. It's a human failing, not just a British one and no doubt it will apply to your country too.
It is not always black and white. There is a law saying possession is 9th tenths of the law plus. Many of these items were not actually stolen, deals were done and they were sold by individuals not nations. Some items were actually discovered by the British without whose investment at the time may of not been rediscovered. Yes, perhaps there were items stolen but it not so clear cut as some people try to maintain. and don't forget the British had jurisdiction over some countries at the time these items were acquired. If the Americans for example feel so strongly that we stole these items then perhaps they should give America back to the "native Americans".
Actually my ears are used to the American accent or the RP accent of Britain, which people like Benedict Cumberbatch or Tom Hiddleston speak in, anything outside sound really difficult to me.
Oooo Americans telling others how they should behave? Priceless.
Germany handed back several looted artifacts to Nigeria then why England can't?
Then British museum will become empty
Because its their trust fund

Irony is we have to pay a ticket to see our own jewels stolen from India.
British Museum is free
@@Live_Love_Laugh_Always However, Tower of London where our stolen Kohinoor sits costs around 30 UK pounds to enter.

So true,we have been to British museum with kids n shocked to see separate floor full of Indian artefacts !!!😤
Same with Japan and China too!!
You know those countries also have stolen artefacts right? The fact they were captured is now a part of their history.
Many Indian artefacts were gifts, it would help if you learnt any of the history while you were there.

For me it's always his cabbage episode in "Would I Lie to you?". 😅
