I think the best thing about barq is to not treat it as a dating app but rather as a app where you can find locals and hang out/create friend groups. Also shout out to the BARQ team for staying on top of the feedback us members give out. :D
I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. They recently released a huge update that fixed a lot of issues. I've been using Barq for a little over 2 years, and I've found alot of friends through it. :)
I'm new to the Furry community and was positively surprised by the number of BARQ users near me. However, I have social anxiety and feel awkward just sliding into people's DMs so I've kinda just been looking at their fursonas. Any tips?

Is this app open source, or is it planned to be ? Since there is a lot of volunteers in the team, maybe including the community as a whole in the developpement process would be nice. (I take osu: as a model/reference here)

I've thought about trying it because it could be cool to meet some local furries.
However I have not, because I am afraid of meeting local furries.
I think everyone is just as anxious as you are to meet other furries, you should try to step out of your comfort zone!
New ways of finding friends is best
i was thinking of trying it out, but some of the reviews put me off however they were from long ago so.

yeah i think when the app was first starting out there were a bunch of problems, but they're definitely getting a lot better now

It’s great for finding people near you but then you exchange discord or another app

Tip from me: Barq should have a web app, not everyone is comfortable having it as a mobile app
