Interesting! I see a lot of the 670's down here in downstate NY and wondered about the subtle differences between that and the 780.

I have a couple questions. the d16, how common are those in the 670? does the 670 come typically with a rear locker or, can one be added? Can a d16 be programmed for 600hp. If a truck does not have the adaptive cruse control can it be added or, did that only come with the780? have you ever added hush mat to the interior to get it Mercedes "S class" quiet? Can it be converted to have the larger fuel tanks installed? Thanks for the videos!
    Matt

+n3qdz Thanks for taking the time to ask you questions Matt. The engines are not associated or related in any way to a particular model. The D13 and D16 engines are found in all the models. I will say however that Canadian Volvos tend to have a few more D16s because we are allowed to tow larger loads in Canada where the larger engine is appreciated. It is VERY expensive to install a locker. We have to replace a significant amount of parts in the rear end ($1000s of dollars). I haven't done a detailed quote on it yet, but I would guess it approaches $5000 to have it installed. OR, you would have to look for a used complete rear-end that has a locker. Again, it will cost quite a bit of funds. The D16 cannot be programmed after-the-fact for 600 HP. There was a short period of time in North America where Volvo made the D16 come from the factory with 600 hp. We have one of those in the yard actually. But, we can't reprogram a D16 that came from the factory with 500 HP up to 600 HP. Adaptive cruise control is not related to the model of the truck. It is an option that became available in recent years on most highway models. No-one has asked me to add the insulation for noise yet. The maximum fuel tanks we can get with these Volvos are two 150 Gallon tanks. Wow, that is quite a bit of fuel. Do you need more? If so, it would be a custom built tank. We CAN make tanks larger, but we quickly become limited in the physical space we have available along the side of the frame. Keep the questions coming!

Having experience in the tractor trailer industry, if you’re going over the D13 you didn’t buy a Volvo in the US. Most of the delivery companies that are doing local are running D13s and they are about 20,000 lbs in a 48’ trailer.
Not sure about Canada’s limits but the US is grossing at 105,500.
It’s very frequent to have a locker on tandem drives, I’ve actually never seen a truck without one because of the spin-out failures. I always figured it would be an option to remove it - again not sure why you’d ever do that.
The Volvo dealer can retune your engine and re-inject it, they’re basic parameters. It’s locked out and dealer restricted because people who often don’t know what they’re doing will demolish $45-50,000 diesels trying to get more power.

Why do some models have extra mirrors on the hood? I know there is an explanation video out there but i can't find it.

    • @rvhaulers

They provide an extra wide field of view while driving.

They’re specifically intended to view the blind spot gap between flat and convex mirror.
There is a dedicated purpose for each mirror and every one builds your picture.

I've noticed that you often talk about changing the rear duals. Why can't the rear duals be left in their factory configuration for RV hauling?

+1djFlashboogie Why do we “single” an RVHauler?
      1. Every individual state and province has their own rules, however, one rear axle can often be classified as a motorhome. Titling as a motorhome results in far cheaper insurance, and registration costs. If it has two rear axles, it is often considered a commercial vehicle, and the insurance is about $3000+ per year. One rear axle, the insurance is about $900 per year. This is dependent on where you live. Sometimes you can have it titled as a “personal truck” when it still has two rear axles.
      2. Perhaps an even stronger reason for singling the rear is the impact it has on the required operator’s license. A single rear axle can be driven with a standard driver’s license in most locations. A three axle truck requires a commercial driver’s license in most cases.
      3. Make it a motorhome, and you don’t have to maintain a driver’s log, annual commercial safety inspections, or stop at weigh scales ever.
      4. Better fuel mileage. There is less weight, road friction, and steel rotating.
      5. Far better turning radius than your pickup.
      6. Lower maintenance and repair costs (fewer tires, brakes, etc)
      7. Increases your resale value - when you are ready to sell, it REALLY increases the value when there is a single rear axle.
      8. Allows for more storage boxes under the bed/deck.
      9. Some folks like the looks of a single rear axle. Visually it becomes more of an RV rather than a commercial truck.

So the only difference with the 670 from the 780 is interior space (and the window)?
