This is probably my final contribution to the fnaf fandom, with the new lore of SB and ruin completely wiping off my interest in this franchise. However, I will always be fond of the older games, and especially William Afton’s character, he always seemed to be the most interesting character, who could be interpreted in so many ways. So why not make an animatic about my own interpretation of him?
From my interpretation, William gained this fear of mortality, not only for himself, but for his children as well, due to the trauma of him losing his wife who was ill, and eventually the death of Evan (CC). His desperation for his children and himself to remain immortal, caused him to make some extremely poor choices, such as killing children just to get remnants (which could make a human being survive the most deadly accidents) and build the funtimes, which eventually killed his own daughter Elizabeth. After this event, is when he descends into madness, his motivation changing from getting the remnants for his children, to getting the remnants only for himself. His madness is even more amplified once he got spring locked and died, He then goes on his search on anyone who he sees as the one who ruined his life (Henry, for the creation of springlock suit and Michael for accidentally killing Evan)
The relationship between him and Michael is rather confusing, on one side, William is mad at him for killing Evan (that madness only really shown when he became springtrap), but on the other, he is nostalgic about the good times they spent when Michael was a young boy, and somewhat still cares about him, somewhere. after all, he is his son…

I absolutely love the idea that Cassidy let him get a glimpse of the heaven he could’ve had, if he hadn’t been such a twisted man. Whether it was for his own children’s sake or not, he still killed, and that’s all that really matters to her

@@Lumberjack_kingI actually like that because it’s like a comparison to cassidy’s judgement and gods. And it makes sense considering shes trying to punish him for his wrongdoings instead of letting his spirit rest.
This animatic is absolutely phenomenal. While at the surface William is seen as a soulless killer, at the end of the day he was driven insane by the death of his kids and the search of remnant to bring them back. I especially liked at the end, when Elizabeth and CC ran over to him, happy to see him again. Except for Micheal who stood back, knowing what he has done and all the pain he has caused. Beautiful work.

You seem to gloss over the beginning of the animatic where he killed Charlie for seemingly no reason and are blaming all of his kills on insanity caused by his kids deaths which is just false with what we have seen in the animatic.

Love how whenever there's blood, the rest of the scene is dark to make it pop out more, and the bit where his face gets all distorted to show him losing his mind while on the killing spree. The shot of him alone in UCN with all the eyes poking through the doorway hit me so hard.

cassidy making him think his soul moved on, and afton going insane trying to bring his kids back is so tragic. This is by far one of my favorite animatics ever! I love the addition of old man consequences
This is downright incredible. Genuinely impeccable. I adore William with all of my heart, and I am SO glad to see somebody else who interprets his character as being multidimensional and not just a flat "grrrr! evil!" guy. All of what he did was driven by pure grief and sorrowful mania. The ending scene of Evan, Liz, and Micheal fading away BROKE me. The feeling of absolute desolate despair that the final panel gives is amazing. Truly mind bowling.
I’m glad to see another fellow William enthusiast, and you’re right too! Personally, I don’t think his character would be as intriguing if he was simply pure evil, as canonically, he lost two of his own children, and who knows if something happened to his wife too, it just wouldn’t make much sense for these two events to not to affect him whatsoever. I think he did care for his children, and yes even Michael at some point. Is he a good father? No, but I wouldn’t say he is a horrible one either, he’s a man who have made several mistakes, ones that really led him to his downfall and like you say, sorrowful mania. Anyways I’m really glad that you liked my interpretation of him, as well as this animatic! ^^🩷
Well, sorry if in canon he's always presented as a manipulative monster and not as a good person.
Personally i really hate people who do mischaracterization of William; while it's absolutley possible that he used he to be a good person that's not the case anymore.
I remember to you all that he allowed the Circus Baby's employees to use ectrocution on all Funtime animatronics; despite knowing that Elizabeth was possessing Circus Baby; in the novel he even phisically abused her(YEAH IT'S NOT CANON BUT SCOTT WORKED ON IT AND THERE WILLIAM WAS NOTHING BUT MONSTROUS), also, a normal parent would have noticed that the Crying Child was bullied and afraid of the place; yet he had his son have his birthday there because of neglect.
William Afton is even approved in the Pure Evil wiki and Hate Sink wiki; this just shows that while kind of fascinating and interesting; William must be hated for his horrible actions with no pity. BUT HEY you can have yer own opinion.

I’ve always loved the theory that William was driven insane by the death of CC/Evan. It makes the whole thing way more interesting. In my AU, he started trying to revive CC after he died, to the growing concern of Henry. A fight they had over it eventually made him snap, killing Charlie in a fit of rage. It was after her death that he realized the power of remnant and souls, driving him to commit more murders to fuel his quest for his and his kids immortality (a few of the murdered kids are also the fnaf 4 bullies). Anyway probs not canon but I like the thought
Those type of hcs are my fav! Not only does it just make more sense lore wise without making everything over complicated (in my opinion), but it also dives into William’s psyche.

I've seen this video like a dozen times, but I only just noticed the "And the women oh the women all they do is cry" scene where the mothers of the children crying as a result of their children going missing and the actual ghosts trying to hug them but not being noticed.
It hurts deeply and want to crumble into a pile of dust
And the dads were 'getting milk' while all this was happening.
I absolutely love this. Finally some real motivation for what he does. I love the idea of him wanting to get more remnant but not wanting to kill more children directly so he goes the circus baby route and only resorts to killing kids himself after the death of his second child
Do you think he trys to justify his actions by thinking things like this?
"The remnant will bring my loved ones back."
Or
"They all came back so I'm not really killing them, just giving them 'new life'. They aren't really gone."
Or even some like
"I'm on the verge of learning immortality! This is for the good of mankind! No one will need to know the pain of loss if I succeed! I. Just. Need. More!"
2:27 God made me so sad. Like the father bending down at the level of a woman's womb... and his daughter dying is such amazing symbolism.
As someone who interprets William as Pure Evil, i rly like this take on a Broken Pure Evil version of William. Most would make everything he does for his children, which i kinda dislike. Your take is much more different and i rly appreciate. His terrible actions do start for his children, but as he descends more and more into madness he ends up caring only for himself. It's a rly cool interpretation that i do admit is slightly more intriguiging than William just being a purely heinous bastard, even if that is my view on the character. And i also liked that the animatic also put empashis on the Missing Children's grief and didn't villainize them for being killed. Besides that, the animatic is so good. So well-drawn and so well-done! Can't wait for more awesome animatics when the time comes!
I love how Andrew let him see a bit of the happy afterlife he could've had if he hadn't killed him or any of the other kids. This is absolutely stunning!

I like how everyone is completely ignoring that he killed Charlie at the beginning for seemingly no reason and are instead victimizing him since his children died. He still killed at least 6 children even if 5 of them were to try and bring his family back he still killed at least 1 just because he could without even knowing that remnant existed.

I wouldn’t say people are victimizing him..he isn’t a victim. What he did is still HORRIBLE! It’s making him a sympathetic villain, aka someone with backstory and reasons for doing bad things to where you can pity them but they’re still a bad person in the end

This animatic helped me look at William Afton from a different perspective. Many people believe that he did not love his children at all. But you showed otherwise. William may have been a bad person, but he could show his love for his family in his own way. Maybe he just never said how much he loved them.

Nope. He doesn't love them. He was manipulative and abusive towards them. He doesn't care. The only person in his family he may have cared about was the Crying Child, and even then, it's just speculation.
The only people he canonically loved, as seen in the novels & the movie, are Henry and the Missing Children. And even in this case, his love was conditional and twisted
@gamesuarx there definitely is proof that you could argue shows his love for his kids, his downfall was because of how he tried to bring his children back, for example. He is a monster, no doubt. Loved them in all the wrong ways, but you can't completely rule out his love. He's only human, after all; he has to love them even a small bit. (at least in the beginning, lol)

He only cared about remnant for himself, and the only times we ever see him interact with his children, he's a piece of shit towards them. Every single canonical interaction with his kids makes him out to be a manipulative, abusive dad.
The best thing he's ever done for his kids is forbidding Elizabeth to go near Circus Baby, and even then, it's not like he did much to stop her in the end.
The only family he canonically loves are Gabriel, Suzie, Cassidy, Jeremy and Fritz. And even then, as we see in the movie, his love is conditional. As soon as they disobey him, he hates them.

@@Herr_Schindler thank you for explaining! I do completely agree, I simply wanted to highlight that at some point, he did love his children. I actually have read the original, it was one of the best pieces of media I've consumed to date. The point of his character is how inhumane and horrific of a person he is, which I personally think is even further driven when you look back to the VERY start of his intentions; to entertain children, and to capture the charm his own childhood character radiated.
Oof, the bit about how the three turn to dust was a heart wrencher indeed. I love, love, _love_ how every scene depicting Mike post-Purple Guy (post-CC, even) shows him as sad or even apathetic. Even when William "gives up" that life, there's no taking it back. Michael gave up his own life chasing him, righting his wrongs. Starting with what he did to his own brother. Or maybe with what his father's invention did to his sister. Funnily enough, despite everything that happened, it was William's fault. He caused his own misery. Everything he touched, he violated.
And finally, Cassidy let him know how wrong he was to let him think he could just _let him get away with it._
I like your theory! And I understand. I've been bored with FNaF lore since Steel Wool was introduced. I'm sorry to see you go before I even got to know you, mate. But great job and I'm glad you at least had fun while you were here! _(Gregbot theory can die in the fire that killed Springtrap--)_

I’ve seen a lot of William animatics and animations, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt *emotional* about one before. The ending of this actually made me tear up a bit-I LOVED THE WAY YOU PRESENTED HIM YOU DID RLLY GOOD AND THE ART IS BEYOND INCREDIBLE

I absolutely loved this video. You are so good at this, I must say. I feel the same as you about the FNAF franchise thing. I mean, I will still be making theories and actively follow the new infos and games and stuff that will come out in the future but after the whole fandom literally deciding to act as if Glitchtrap is not William, I too got distanced from it a bit. At least, the fandom side of the franchise, if not the games and the story itself. Was good nonetheless! ❤❤

This is just beautiful. This masterpiece proves William issnt evil. Hes broken. He lost everything and everyone he loved. Every kill was from a fit of rage as he desperately tried to bring them back.
I absolutely love William Aftons story and you captured it beautifully because he's not just a heartless person without any morals he's a human being who was driven insane by the death of his children.
Honestly as someone who is interested in SB and Ruin's lore (Or at least my interpretation of it, no one on the internet seems to see it the way I do, their interpretations are super super boring and seem to be driven more by hating Afton than anything else). What they do with William in the Frights and Tales is stupid and much less compelling than this. Complex William is much more interesting than 'always evil William'.
Either way, really like the animation. It's a great portrayal of William Afton as a flawed, ultimately bad person but one driven by his own very human faults, rather than just 'being evil for the lolz'.
(Honestly IMO there's a lot of mileage to get out of the idea that Glitchtrap is William's hate and rage from his death in FNAF6 manifested and dragged the human William's soul out of hell to serve as a twisted puppet in the form of Burntrap but the fandom seems to have decided GT and BT are just a funni robot imitating William for no reason which I think is stupid but w/e)

Sorry I tell that, but... Today I've had a horrible day. I'm tired, I have no motivation to do anything, I have to study in a place I don't wanna even look at, even talk about. It's been several hours of me scrolling youtube for nothing, and I was crying for no reason, I was feeling emty and... ruined.

I genuinely LOVE this interpretation and I honestly cried so hard from this I love William so much and I feel so bad for him like he made mistakes and did horrible things but it was from pure sorrow and he did them with grief and sorrow and anger and I just love this sm and the artwork is beautiful

I find your interpretation of William getting his fear of death from the death of his wife original, convincing, and accurate psychology-wise, near to my life too, as my dad got the same fear with the death of his parents, and it has driven him to do poor choices that at the end don't help much at all.
I love interpretations like this. They make me sad but make me wonder at the same time: What if... is all that's in my mind. What if William held himself back after everything that happened to him, accepted his loss as how life goes on, how much pain would have been spared and how would it all have gone down if just one thing went differently, how would have the Afton name been received if it had not been tarnished by the head of it's family?

Also, 4:22 Golden Freddy’s head on the wall has the glowing eyes showing it’s alive, unlike Circus Baby and Foxy. The heads most likely represent his kids

i have a hard time expressing how haunting this is to me. everything lines up so perfectly with the song, especially the end, the lyrics just add more meaning to this. i love this character and you portrayed him so SO well. i genuinely feel like crying, but i can't stop replaying it. absolutely magnificent work.

You explained everything in the description better than any of the FNaF lore videos I've watched (and trust me I've seen a lot) and I love your idea. Personally, the new book, completely ruins the lore and the idea of William going insane because of something bad happening, whether it's his wife dying or Evan's death, it doesn't matter, as someone who views FNaF in a psychological sense, I see the new books just as a quick cash grab for Scott (nothing against him just saying) because this is seriously too much. Anyways, sad you won't be making FNaF content anymore because I used to love your content, but keep the art going it's great.

this is probably my favourite interpretation of williams role in the fnaf series. i like to think of him in this way, as a father who was in grief for his children which led him to do what he did. i might be interpreting this wrong, but it is a nice thing to think about. i love the movements and expressions, i can really feel for williams character in this and it honestly makes me feel a little bad for him. even though what he did was wrong, it’s nice to think of him as just a father who loved his children, especially with that ending.
and at the end, when he faced cassidy, you can really see the remorse william feels. he knows what he did was bad but it was an act of desperation to him.
This is sad I feel bad for William 😭 he cares about his kids to secretly but also he wants to accomplish immortality Remnant souls eternal life live eternity Afton family and all maybe after death of his wife or losing her divorce or before or after
I also feel like after he lost his wife two kids I feel like he wanted to make his whole Afton family immortal to with immortal remnants souls agony pain ect and he
lost his whole family which is sad 😭

I scroll through every comment here and I notice that no body (exception for this guy who write out every fun things(idk what that was I forgot)) notice that crows are as well symbol of the evil spirit (at least this is what I remember) and when I firt saw it I was like: YOOO! I like you see how much he cares for his children and why he did all those things and yet the only kid he has left is Michal but sad how William afton ended up the way he now is trapped in the pizzeria sprintraped i honestly think Cassidy is too harsh on afton
