Being that I am a 34yearold black man I can tell you this, people before us had to do certain things for us to make it better for us like it is now. We will never understand what people had to do for us. Sammy Davis was an entertainer and he made people happy. Also, you have to consider this, there is nothing wrong with people laughing with you. Its another thing if they are laughing at you. I respect all that people before me regardless of color wanted better for the future.
Sammy was a consummate professional and one of most talented and original performers ever. They don't make 'em like Sammy anymore. I wish they did, because I miss the hell outta him.
Great post...brings back lots of nice memories...Sammy removed himself from consideration as being voted best Vegas' best entertainer by his peers after winning it numerous, consecutive times...this man could do anything...there's never been another like him....RIP Sammy Davis Jr.
After viewing legends like Sammy Davis Jr, I must say, where did all the talent go? Even the so called talents today are NOTHING in comparison to old guys like Sammy. He was with the Rat Pack and performed with the best of them. All this generation knows about is utilizing technology to it's fullest. Anything else they do is pretty much sub-par.
Sammy Davis maravilloso intérprete!, superior a Sinatra e injustamente olvidado. Ademàs transmitía una ternura muy especial. Ojalà las radios lo recordaran y las nuevas generaciones lo conocieran.
Great post...this brings back a variety of wonderful memories...Sammy removed himself from being voted by his peers as best entertainer in Vegas after winning it numerous, consecutive times...there's never been another like him...RIP Sammy Davis Jr.
@StephanAOTTO1 I agree. What a world class talent. I've heard people pick on him for EVERYTHING and yet who today under 50 can sing like this, be campy and be themselves? No one!
The Candy Man was the shit! Ah, the good old days when they could have cigarettes on TV and the networks didn't have to play big brother for parents who couldn't/wouldn't control what their kids watched.
That is priceless!! And also hilarious: imagine ANY singer today holding a lit cigarette while singing. Security would have dumped a pail of water on him today. They sure don't make them like him anymore!
No one can sing this song the way can Jose Feliciano can, but gee Sammy Davis, Jr. was sure talented. Those cigarettes could be the reason that he died way too young.
It was sad to see Mr. Davis smoking as that ultimately led to his death from throat cancer in 1990. He was asked in an interview if he ever regretted smoking and he said not at all. He said although he knew it would likely kill him he loved his first cigarette at breakfast and the 4 packs a day he would then smoke every day
@StephanAOTTO1 Sammy could sing anything and add his own flair and twist to it. Backed by George Rhodes and the allstars,it was a legendary show, wherever he performed. However..there is No question that Sammy was tormented by his constant inner struggle of wanting to be white...that is well documented.
chewybunz : i don’t think I ever saw him take a drag on his cigarettes. When I watched him on tv, it seemed he needed the cigarettes as a crutch to help him get through the song he had to sing.
I DO know, probably better than you do. AS I SAID, Sammy is talented and does very well in certain genre's but should have NEVER tried to sing anything even remotely ethnic.I say the same thing about Pat Boone, Jim Nabors or any other whitebred singer.Sammy was in his element when singing Candy Man, Mr. Bojangels, Broadway show tunes or the rat pack stuff. That's my judgment and it's an informed one that didn't come " quickly. "
LAME!!!!! Sammy is certainly talented but be honest...How can a black man be so white? This was just way too corny. Pat Boone could have butchered this song just as badly.

That's what I'm talking about!!!! This man is royalty!!!!! RIP Sammy Davis Jr
That song makes me so sad. I am almost 47, and I remember the passing of Freddie Prinze all too well. One of the milestone memories of my life.
Sammy was a consummate professional and one of most talented and original performers ever. They don't make 'em like Sammy anymore. I wish they did, because I miss the hell outta him.
I cannot help to watch this once a week.
Great post...brings back lots of nice memories...Sammy removed himself from consideration as being voted best Vegas' best entertainer by his peers after winning it numerous, consecutive times...this man could do anything...there's never been another like him....RIP Sammy Davis Jr.
Sammy was the classiest performer of all time. It doesn't matter what color you are,

Cigarette in one hand, microphone in the other, singing and dancing. ❤️

Matty Gunn
Maybe to your generation. He was a big ham to mine. I respect he broke down walls in his day but his lounge lizard act is so far removed.
What a Great Vid!! Thanks so much for posting it! FYI - Sammy Davis Jr.'s mom was Puerto Rican. Great Entertainer loved by all.
Sammy was the man

He was incredibly talented and very unique.
One Trivia: Freddie Prinze the star of the show where this theme is from lived in Sammy davis' house for a bit.
This was Real Music in the 1970's.
If they ever held a vote as to who was the ultimate performer of all time--the person who could do anything. It would be Sammy Davis Jr.
@StephanAOTTO1 I agree. What a world class talent. I've heard people pick on him for EVERYTHING and yet who today under 50 can sing like this, be campy and be themselves? No one!

@@elizabethpease947 Could me either man, he was one grovey cat...
Originality is always better! So I like Felicianos! If they thought Sammy did it better they wouldve given Sammy the gig...
Look up "hip" in the dictionary and there it is... a picture of Sammy.

Very different take from Feliciano's. This one is too polished, despite its virtuosity.
Singing and smoking...interesting. A different era.

mctalks : How did you like his rendition of Baretta’s theme song?
LAME!!!!! Sammy is certainly talented but be honest...How can a black man be so white? This was just way too corny. Pat Boone could have butchered this song just as badly.
