  • Please know I know nothing about electronics but watched a vid and decided to try the fix I’d seen. This is a hastily made 2 1/2 minute video about what I did to fix a cute old AM radio
    Summary
I was given a 1960s battery operated transistor radio.
The battery compartment was a little corroded w very old batteries in it.
I put new batteries in and the sound was very crackly, it wouldn’t tune well, and volume would drop to silent or go loud w/o my touching it.
I took the batteries out, watched a vid of an apparent pro fixing a transistor radio, then I did a short, diy home-spun reenactment.
It took only about 5 min to fix it but again-
**I know nearly nothing about electronics so perhaps consult someone who does if you intend to fix something you care about or something that could hold a charge and ⚡️shock you.**
    The Basic Steps
    1. I opened the radio and then used a 50:50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water generously dripped strategically inside the radio behind the volume and tuning knobs. I couldn’t see where the liquid was landing.
    2. Then I used a leaf blower to blow the liquid out drying the inside of the radio and probably cleaning it a bit.
    3. I put the back back on, put the new batteries back in and it worked like new.

I love this thing. Good luck with yours. Do you have any idea why the top opens up to reveal that hidden compartment? I thought maybe it was for a closet smoker. Lol

@iliveintimbuktoo I figured it was for any small items like rings jewelry, keys, and the like. I like it because it's like a table top radio that was shrunk down in size.

@@geralderdek282 That top compartment-I think you’re right and what a thoughtful design element.
I Googled vintage tabletop radio to see what a bigger one would look like. Wow. They are beautiful. I’m obsessed. Headed to eBay now. 😬😄
