I've always thought that you're born with a chest voice. You can learn how to use it but some people are born without a voice and it's easier for them or naturally able to use a chest voice. My wife would always say when you sing Spirituals you sound like a black person because of your deep chest voice and then you can go really high and it still sounds deep resonates so beautifully. My father had a similar type of voice and you could just tell when he spoke that he had a chest voice. Take care Mayita. Arnold
@@eternalmariacallas2283 Yes all the time. Verdi & Puccini. I always felt that the female opera singer had the most beautiful Arias. Verdi & Mozart it's a straight line not difficult like Puccini is hard on The Voice. Even though Puccini was the most passionate incredible mournful music in opera. Bellini donizetti and Rossini appeal to me but not as much as Puccini and Verdi. Arnold 🎻🎶🎼👴
Check out Geoff Castellucci's version of this. Thurl Ravenscroft is his role model, you can tell in the singing and at the end of his version, he goes even lower.
Well.. there has always been a great bass or low baritone voices regardless of the genre. Like th-cam.com/video/ofmzX1nI7SE/w-d-xo.html to th-cam.com/video/1cl_fMxQCTw/w-d-xo.html. But absolutely, T R is a great voice/singer.
to be fair, it's not just opera that became worse over time but singing as a whole. in the pop world we don't have anyone nowadays who could match those such as Shirley Bassey, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, James Brown, Elvis Presley... and so on... singing got worse as a whole, opera just felt the consequences of that downgrade far more than other art forms. this guy was singing decades ago, of course he's better than the basses of today, because he learnt proper singing when it was still being taught
giuseppe stefano not at all, I’m very far away from that stage in my life. I’m 14 years old, this is my second channel: th-cam.com/video/QuylR1AcBqU/w-d-xo.html

He's grrrrrrrrrrrreeeaatt!!!
Great voice
Hello, so even you are here.
Reuben Thomas lmao Thurl as a baritone. Seems legit
@@reubenthomas7907 lol that’s so funny because Thurl literally has the darkest tone
Thurl was certainly a bass. A baritone isn't usually trained to sing such low notes as Thurl reaches here.
@@elirosen1391 i agree with you
Baritones can sing low or high.
Only mid register.
Thurl did study to be an opera singer when he was young
Is this the same guy who sang "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch???"
Kim Millard exactly! Yes it is!
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Del Monaco can ACT with his voice!
Delos Jewkes(non operatic bass) sang a powerful B1(contra B)
Ravenscroft sings a G1 in asleep in the deep
He was born in 1914. (1 year older than MDM)
Who is MDM?
@@crunchycrackers7364 Mario Del Monaco.
Thats my great uncle
