  • We just harvested the first pak choi from our veggie containers filled with Black Gold Natural & Organic Potting Mix, and they are so beautiful! Perfect for spring or fall growing, these are some of the fastest and most satisfying cool-season vegetables. All that you need is a container of soil, some pak choi or bok choi seeds or starts, a little water, fertilizer, some sunshine, and they will grow beautifully. Enjoy them in a stir fry. Video thanks to my nine-year-old daughter, Gabriella, and vegetables thanks to my local garden center and Black Gold Natural & Organic Potting Mix. www.blackgold.bz

I live in Zone 8a, is it too late to plant bokchoi from seeds in May?

We recommend waiting until the fall when temperatures grow cooler. Most pak choi grow best in cool weather. Yours will bolt (flower) too quickly if you plant them outdoors now.

Do you need to fertilizer/feed them since they grow so quickly? If so how often?

They are fast-growing and require only a little fertilizer initially. I tend to add slow-release fertilizer to my pots at the beginning of the season. Then I replenish it as needed after it is used up. There are lots of great OMRI Listed products on the market.
