Congratulations gentlemen you've passed the audition! The Absolute Best RUSH cover band on the planet....and they're also Canadian! Cheers from Toronto!
11,xxx now 3.5 yrs later, IDK. Great cover band!! I wish the bassist would grow and dye his hair blonde, I know he is not on lead, but umm, neither is te singer on keys. lol. There are just so many cover band that fall short when doing Rush, I guess people don't look for covers..
That bass player has really nailed Geddy’s bass sound. A lot of guys get all the notes right, but either can’t get that crunch sound Geddy has or cannot match his dynamics. Geddy has a really dynamic way of attacking notes. He only uses his index finger for picking, but used his nail to pop the string and get that kind of pinch harmonic punch on certain notes. Your bassist uses his index and middle finger, but he has mastered getting that pop that is so signature Geddy. The toms are tuned exactly like Neil’s and really matches the sound of his rolls. I love your choice of cymbals and hi hat. Every detail is perfect, from every rim shot to every accent, you have nailed Peart’s sound exactly and all the while carrying the lead vocals! Who does that? No one else I have seen and your pitch is perfect to Geddy’s. You sound more like a Geddy than any other tribute band vocalist I have heard yet. Chris from Lotus Land is a close second to you. Your guitarist sounds exactly like Alex. All of the same guitar effects, but just like the bassist, he has copied Lifeson’s dynamics to a T. Every pinch harmonic is perfect, even to the amount of tremolo bar used. Great airy sound on the arpeggiation during the chord voicing, which is vintage Lifeson. Alex has pretty much written the book on arpeggiation, especially around the time of Hemispheres. It became a real staple of his chord voicings on Permanent Waves and onward. You guys have got to be the most detail oriented Rush Tribute band out there and I have listen to most all of them worth hearing and many not worth hearing here on TH-cam. I’d love to hear you guys live. I have watch so many Rush tribute bands because I am a musician (Guitar) and major league Rush fan. I never played in a Rush tribute band (tribute bands really weren’t a thing back in the 70s, 80s and 90s) But I did play in bands that covered a lot of Rush. Whenever I see Rush tribute bands on TH-cam I will see a band that has a great drummer and bass, but the guitarists isn’t up t par with the other 2, or a great guitarist and bassist, but the drummer really isn’t as good as the other 2. In most cases, the vocals really fall short since Geddy is not easy to cover. Whether people love or hate his voice, it is the most unique Rick voice and difficult to copy. There is a guy named Brody Dolyniuk who played in a band in Las Vegas called Yellow Brick Road, they have a lot of videos on TH-cam. I bring up Brody because he is the best impersonator of almost every classic rock vocalist. He can nail Robert Plant better than Plant can. His Roger Daltry is right on. Elton John, Klaus Meine, Bradly Delp, Steve Perry, Vince Neil and even Freddy Mercury, all tits on. He is so good at imitating them that he was hired to do all of the tracks for Guitar Hero and Rock Band games and most people don’t realize they are not the original artists. Why am I going on about this guy? Because his Geddy Lee is way off. Doesn’t sound like him at all. He has the range, just not the same trill Geddy has in his voice nor the same vocal dynamic, timbre or pronunciation. Your Geddy sounds way better than his, which gives you an idea of just how hard it is to nail Lee’s vocal. Your range, timbre and vibrato are perfect, your pronunciation is the only thing that can give it away sometimes, but it is ever so slight. I think that’s because English was not your first language, right? I apologize in advance if I’m wrong about that. Chris from Lotus Land is perfect on his pronunciation, but off on many of the other parts you have nailed, so your overall vocal performance is better in my opinion. Besides the vocals, I think Lotus Land, Who have been voted twice as the best cover band at Rush-Con, actually have a couple of weak links. The drummer for starts. He ad-libs a lot of fills and when you’re a tribute band, those chops have to be precise. It’s not like his improvised fills are an improvement or anything, I think he just doesn’t care enough to get them right. Your drumming is near perfect and doing it while carrying the lead vocals is just off-the-chain impressive. I think you guys could beat these guys at Rush-Con. Have you ever been there to compete? Being a guitarist, I am always going to be hard on that instrument and the guitarist for Lotus Land can be a bit sloppy, something that Alex is not. Few guitarists play as clean as Lifeson. He also ends up with a lot of dead notes during the solos, something Lifeson never has. Your guitarist is one of your strong members. I cannot find any places where he doesn’t match Alex in every accent. Even every slide and slow bend on the whammy bar are perfect. I am really Impressed with him, which is refreshing because I can almost always find something to pick on the guitar playing (no pun intended - guitar - pick). Your guitarists solos are far kore perfect than the guy for Lotus Land. Then there’s your bassist. He plays perfectly. Now Chris for Lotus Land also plays the bass and sings. His singing is very strong, he sounds a lot like Geddy too and his bass playing is very strong. I think he is the key factor in that group winning Rush-Con time after time because the other two aren’t really in the same league as he is. He can get all of the notes right on the bass, but his attack and dynamics leave a lot to be desired. He even slaps at the bass, especially when live and I’m not talking about slap style playing that Geddy does form time to time, but just banging and slapping at the strings in a way Geddy has never done and it sounds horrible. He also doesn’t have that poping pick style Geddy uses his fingernail to get, whereas your bassist has that down perfect. The only bassist I have heard even close to your bassist is in a band called YYNot. He is really good and so too is the guitarist, but they have a woman singer who sounds nothing like Geddy. She lacks his power and she has a much faster vibrato that is off-putting. Overall, New World Men are the best tribute band I have ever heard for Rush and as you can tell, I am a stickler when it comes to the music of Rush. They are the hardest band to imitate because it takes every musician in the band to take their role very serious and I can tell that you guys do. I have that same love of Rush music, but always found it hard to find other musician who would give it the same respect and were willing to put in the time to get it right. Evidently, so do many other musicians like us. You’re lucky that you guys have found each other and you all obviously take this music very, very seriously and it shows. I hope you can be at the next Rush-Con and take top honors. You deserve it and it is about time someone else other than Lotus Land wins. Not that they do not also work hard and deserve what they’ve won so far, but I think you put in a bit more respect, not slapping at the bass and writing in your own inferior drum fills. Keep up the great work guys. I can usually see a weak link in every Rush tribute band I hear, which makes sense because Rush are master craftsman and not easy to emulate, but you’re the first tribute band without a real noticeable glitch anywhere. As Gil, the drummer for Triumph wrote in the comments of one of there songs, he said to those comparing them to Rush “Rush is my favorite band to. No one works as hard as those guys do. They have a work ethic like no one else in the business and have Uber talent and Alex is one hell of a scratch golfer”. I guess he plays golf with those guys too. Being from Canada, they must always get compared to Rush. This is why they are the hardest band to imitate. Such precision. I have seen them live in every tour since Permanent Waves in 1980 and never missed a concert in my area. They are the most perfect band live. I can see where Gil says they work harder than anyone else in the business and anyone wanting to copy them to perfection has to be willing to work equally as hard and it shows really big time in your recordings and live performances. You’re some,y the best at it. My hats off to you guys. I know that none of the bands I was in were anywhere near close to your sound. I’m impressed beyond belief.
This is the closest sound to Rush originals that I’ve heard. Awesome job.
