  • The Lake Onslow hydro scheme will be as big as all of our current hydro schemes put together and allow NZ to be 100% sustainable in power generation.

The Meridian Energy hydro spilling scandal shows why we shouldn't privatise our energy. Once you're a business it's all about profits.
    A great documentary, thank you.

Capital must constantly seek a home, investment. Lake Onslow is not a goer now compared with large battery storage close to demand centres. Onslow may be a goer in the future. Even the simple run of the river Arnold valley hydo scherme was canned as we genearally have too much power in NZ as corpirate generators spill water to pump up their profits as capital seeks an ever greater return. The system is disfunctional capitalism working as it must, waste resources to enanble private profit. It must change asap.

To far away for maxium use, a volcanic cone in Auckland should be used.
A series of trams that accend the cone .
Tiny but what scenarios is this storage need .
    Proximity and cheapness to consumers.
We can build it and not cost productivity by waiting decades to destrog export earnings.
The device is doabile with a clutch and soon .
    Cheaper.

So the volume of water to be periodically discharged into the river is going to cause it to rise and fall how much?
Electricity to power the pumps to fill up the dam would be required from the 'excess generation capacity' at certain time of the year, and when there is enough water in the Clutha River - hope the feasibility study gets that right, as it's the make or break of the system
Make sure the 'excess energy' comes DOESN'T come from hydro generation or that would be charging one battery from another + losses in doing so.
NZ has excess (off peak) renewable energy generation (off Peak is night time when solar isn't working) ?

They find out about energy needed to pump and evaporation.
New materials we should have water wheels giant ones made of spindly stuff like the eye of London.
The resistance gearing etc to construction costs anx having one next to city might work.
