  • I have been looking through old analog videos to see if there are any of interest to others and then reprocessing them to a digital format.. I think this one of a model G estate version should interest other microcar and especially Bond Minicar fans! This occured in 1994. There are very few vehicles where the engine is designed to turn with the steering! Because of that feature the car can rotate within its own length.

    Greetings Admiral! Really great to see this video, thanks for posting. This video caught my eye because my first car was a Bond G twin that I bought as a wreck back in 1982 and put back on the road so I could leave my Bonneville in the garage when the weather was really bad. The reason this is so special is, this is the same car, ARV190B, known as "Arfur", because it was only Half-a-car really. Did some rallys and stuff, great fun but noisey and stank of 2 stroke fumes but then that`s what the sunroof was for I figured! Great to see he still survives, many thanks for the vid.

      Many thanks for that interesting info. Its good to meet an ex owner. She became known as Harvey in my ownership! I enjoyed owning her and went to several rallies and shows with her. She eventually passed on to an ex Bond owner and today to yet another enthusiast in South Wales. There are several videos of her in action on TH-cam.

    I knew and loved this Car!
    A nautical feel to drive- like being at sea on a small boat in slightly rough seas- point the willing vessel in the right direction and with a healthy roar the little power unit pulls you along there.
    At a moments notice, the unique steering propels you completely about face- without recourse to its reverse gear.
    It is of course able to start the engine in reverse using the "siba dynastart"- and so may progress through all its gears in a reverse direction.
    Wow!

      When I look back on vehicles we have owned years later, on I often ask just why did I sell it? The Bond is one of those. For a while it was my only transport and I enjoyed owning it!

    What a grea view under the hood
    I have never seen one up close like that.
    A motorcyle engine to drive it wow!
    Just can't imagine getting a flat tire on the
    front wheel! fixing that would be a nightmare in itself.
    great video Mike thanks

    Another memory jerker Mike, as I think I've mentioned before I travelled from South Wales to London pre M4 in 1965 in a Bond with my cousin ...an experience I shall never forget !!!....Bob

    I had a Bond Mini Car in the 60s. It had a 197 Villiers engine and a kick start in the engine compartment. I also had a Isseta Bubble car, which I loved. I later had many Reliants, which I also loved. They were awkward to work on and the king pins often required replacing but I got a lot of pleasure out of them. It was a pity they stopped making Reliants. If they had re-designed the Reliant and upgraded the engine I'me sure they would still be made today.

      +Sloopy .Dog I am grateful that I lived in the time period that these unusual machines were a common sight on the road. Looking back now they were primitive but fun!

      +ADMIRALSCORNER My first car was a 1947 Ford Prefect side valve. No heater three gears and vacuum wipers. I bought it for £15 as cars were cheap then. You could pick up an old motorcycle for around £5. If you were willing to put the work in on them, there were plenty of bargains in the 60s. I was offered a Rudge Ulster for £5. I turned it down because my mother was complaining about all my junk, as she called it. They were happy days, people were friendly then, not like now. Best Wishes Joe.

      When I made this video in 1994 the Bond seemed a rare sight. It is even more so today. Motoring was so different back in the 1960s!

      After my dad sold his last Bond he had 3 Reliant Regal's (2 supervans and a saloon) but passed his car test finally in the mid 1970's then moved to 4 wheelers. I haven't seen a Bond for many years and only 1 Reliant in the past 5 years or so.

    • @ADMIRALSCORNER
      @ADMIRALSCORNER  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes even Reliants are rare today. Motoring today is probably better in most cases with four wheels!

    @108Robcatt My first car was a Meserschmitt bubblecar which I drove with my motorcycle licence. I later took my full car test in it. You could do that in those days.When eventually i purchased a normal 4 wheeler it seemed most odd to be driving a car sitting on one side rather than in the middle!

    @robmasterman Yes I do remember Bob and you having to get out and walk on a steep hill! The later model here was relatively civilised however having a 250cc two stroke twin engine.

    Ha Ha! You either love em or hate em! I remember back in the 1950s not really liking them, preferring the German Microcars for their better design and reliability. Still I did enjoy eventually owning this better mark G Twin as it was smoother and quieter to drive than the single cylinder Bonds.

    • @Replevideo
      @Replevideo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see how it was quieter since it had high compression heads and a straight through exhaust. I am speaking from experience because I had a Mk.G twin. All conversation was impossible while accelerating. It was necessary to floor the pedal to keep up with traffic, and release its 120 decibels into you lugholes. It was fast and furious and fun, and cornering was for adrenaline junkies. I got cornering on 2 wheels off to a fine art. I also managed to scorch the paint off the underside of the bonnet with the heat from those cylinder heads.
