I love how he laughed just before he said " you forgot to mention we cut the dividend!" hahahaha Probably one of the few people on earth who could take that kind of a beating on a stock (in the short term) and still laugh about it. Of course at his age pretty much any day is a good day. Also he's sitting there looking at Becky so how bad could his day be.

If you want to see what the future of US food retailers take a look at the United Kingdom. Tesco, Salisbury's, Morison's etc... all sell 90% their own products and all of them have offered home delivery for over the last 10-6 years. As someone who grew up in the UK and moved to the US it can sometimes be shocking how far behind the US is. A lot of it is down to the sheer scale of the US and localized retailers allow easy delivery in the UK. But even simple things like one touch-less payments, they have done that in the UK for years, yet its advertised as a big new thing in the US. When I was visiting family a few months back I was in a corner shop and they asked me if my card was touch-less, I asked the cashier how common it is for people to pay this way and she said everyone does it. I followed with a question of "even the older shoppers?" she said of course, literally everyone. All the food brands in the US will be obliterated when Walmart, Safeway etc... cut out the middle men, make more profit and place it right next to the private brands at a 10-20% discount.

So basically what Buffett is saying is that he miscalculated by paying too much (only a liar will tell you that they get things right 100%of the time) but at these levels the stock is a bargain.
If You want to make money in the stock market you have to be prepared to buy when other people are furiously dumping their stock.
Now, I’m no Warren Buffett, but I do know that if I can buy a stock a lot cheaper than Buffett did, there’s a pretty good chance that I’ll make money in the long run.

You would be super excited by the Deal and could get twice as much for the same amount you were going to pay anyway.. for long term investors they're always looking to add to their positions not sale them off so drops in price are seen as opportunities to get the same stocks for cheaper (as long as it's actually a Good company you're investing in) You can't take that approach with Crap stocks

Then they get caught by having there customer not care about there brands (like Heinz customers moving to French's here in Canada because Buffett closed the ketchup plant in Ontario not because it wasn't making money but because cut cut cut made sense, Canadians got pissed and thought screw Heinz) You can't grow if all you do is cut.

convenience and trust of a label go a long way too when the product's enjoyable and the premium isn't obvious. Retailers put coke, red bull and pepsi in the fridge together because it's hard to mark up a 30c can of cheap off brand cola for a profit. nobody complains about the mark up on such a low cost item they consider a treat. Kraft products are on the shelf with alternatives and are closer to commodities where you'd happily swap for a cheaper option.

I am no Buffet, but if a company had a few downturns and recovers that shouldn't be an indication for long term investors to run. However, when a company constantly showing bad earnings and it is reflected by a long-term downtrend on the chart then there is something wrong with the company. Remember, companies with good fundamentals have great long-term charts and vice versa. Cutting dividends means that they need more money to operate and reduce debt - no good! I suspect that Buffet is waiting for future sell offs (one may be around the corner with SEC investigation) and then he may acquire the company for cheap outright and someone who owns a big chunk of the company already, can negotiate the price further down. If it was a good deal, why Buffet is not loading up on KHC then?! My advice: do not buy if you don't want to eat Kraft dinner for a while :)

Hmm. As a defender of Central Banks QE and easy money policies, it is funny to hear Mr.Buffet say what dont you like about getting something cheaper today than yesterday, but, it is the official policy of the Fed to make us pay at least 2% more year on year for stuff which they say its good. I wonder which is it? Is expensive good or bad. I know its bad but not according to Fed which Mr. Buffet strongly supports?

When Walmart sells the same product as Kraft and Heinz but at 20% cheaper, eventually people will buy the Walmart product (Equate) and not Kraft/Heinz.
Target sells their own brand, Randals sells their own brand, every grocery store now sells their own brand cheaper than Kraft/Heinz.
The writing is on the wall for KHC stock. Look for a dead cat bounce to move the stock higher, but then a steady decline as the stock drops to $10/share by 2020. Kraft/Heinz will continue to take on more debt to advertise, where their competitors do not have to advertise, and the dividend will continue to be slashed.
By the time Bob Kraft gets out of jail for soliciting and hiring prostitution (caught on film), the stock will be down significantly.
    Sell while you still can.
Disclosure: I do not own any shares, not am I short the stock.

I've watched dozens of Buffet interviews over the past 15 years and I feel like this is the 1st and only time I feel like he seems nervous, possibly embarrassed inside for a $25,000,000,000+ loss in one quarter alone, and definitely worried about the future of American brands shifting away from manufacturers to retail players like Amazon, Aldi, Walmart, etc. What do you think of all the old American brands he's invested in? Do you think the world's greatest investor is allowed to make mistakes? If so, how large? Is $25 BILLION acceptable since he's made so much more over 77 years of investing? At the end, he laughs off the billion dollar losses with a dollar cost averaging opportunity example BUT can he stomach more than 26.7% of Kraft Heinz? Finally, what % of you buy soda and packaged goods?

I hope you don't own a dog. They are gmo due to cross breeding. Most "organic" fruit is gmo as well, color changes, size changes, seedless, ect. A lot of stuff we call "natural" has been genetically modified. Gmo's are necessary for society at this point.

He's happy that Costco carries his favorite fizzy pop Coke. I wouldn't trust my money to an investor that has Costco on their radar. Costco has enormous head winds, they have been stubborn to adopt e-commerce and have fallen way behind their peers. There's a company called Boxed.com and it's all digital and no membership. If you have Amazon Prime which who doesn't? Why would you have a Costco membership? They have really long lines and no self-check out. Most people have left suburban life and city life means small kitchens, Costco is made for an era of McMansions. Their core membership are out of work Baby Boomers, and if you go to a Costco, you would see how many old silver haired seniors are there compared to the next generation of shoppers. Boomers are downsizing from large homes to tiny apartments or nursing homes, so membership is not looking good for the foreseeable future at this bulk goods store. There's not a lot of locations, and Walmart and Target has more territory. Their website is a pitiful joke with very little to offer and you can't order online and pick up in store. Their app is a bigger joke. They move their products around making it frustrating for shopping. They partnered with Instacart so you don't even need a membership to shop there, Instacart is taking Costco's entire business model down the toilet.
How much can Warren Buffet learn about the next generation of Millennial's consumerism if he's in Oklahoma, and he doesn't even talk to his kids? You have to be in LA, NYC, SF, where people shop at Amazon Go, Instacart, and if you are young working multiple jobs, you really don't have time like the Boomers did wasting time at the store doing impulse buys as a stay at home wife and mother. When you have some service that does the shopping for you, and deliver to your door, you are cutting out the impulse shopping and that I believe are boxed goods at the heart of the store. They have complicated unhealthy ingredients, largely marked up, and diets are changing to smaller appetites. Millennials aren't getting married and having children before 30, so there's no kids buying all the Coke and Kraft in the middle of the store. Young people are spending their time at the gym, maybe they live in a car, and need the gym for a shower, but they want to be healthy and not have health problems like the Boomers. They will shop along the walls of the supermarket: produce, meats ( which is getting expensive and many are going vegan), bakery ( getting less as it's associated with diabetes and not good for a low carb diet)...basically there's less reason to go to the market unless you have a party. It's not worth it for a few items just hire someone. If Warren Buffet spent a week long with a typical Millennial in the big cities, he will announce his retirement the next week, it's totally a brave new world. People will Postmates McDonald's that's how lazy we are to brave the LA traffic and that shows how addicted to the apps we are, we basically loathe to go in the store...it is a fucking chore to take time away from Netflix.
They way Buffet talks, he's not too sure about what the hell is going on. Like nobody that works for him saw this coming? It's been going on for a long time. If only I could show him how I order shit from Alexa, Buffet will have a heart attack. Some of the box goods are on subscription on Amazon, so it's all automatic.
