  • On this little adventure I visit Glencoe with my hiking and camping gear. I set off at 4AM and arrived shortly after 6AM. In the morning I did the Buachaille Etive Mor as a morning hike before starting this video.
    The Devils staircase is a location I've wanted to hike for a while now so I am glad I finally got to do it.

    Covered a lot on this video including reasons why I’ve not been using the Soulo, a new location and making another meal. Hope you enjoy it.

    Sph2onge super absorbent cloth mate. Best thing I ever found for pulling water from my tent. It’ll change your experience with condensation. After wiping all the moisture off the tent just wring it out and put it in a zip lock back until the next camp. Don’t dry it out it’s by like a vegan chamois 😂. I love glencoe. I’m waiting on some snow in the lost valley for a camp this year or early 2024. Alb Gaz 👍🏼

      Thanks for your suggestion. Might need to have a look. I can count with 1 hand how many times I’ve had the tent fry the following morning this year. I’m the same about Glencoe and a lost valley camp in the snow. Thanks for your comment👍

    Wow,thats some stunningly beautiful scenery there gaz,amazing!
    I have the UL 140 mat,it has its haters,but its the best mat i e slept on,comfy and wide (side sleeper),at 1kg it is heavyish but the comfort is worth it,ive never had an issue with mine.

      @GazTheExplorer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      UL80 is a lot more comfortable than the thermarest mats but unfortunately not as warm. It’s a great mat and not too expensive considering how comfortable it is. I had a great night in the tent on this camp thanks to that mat.

    Your on part of the West Highland way, if you mention devils staircase Gas, great views and peace and tranquillity, another great video, but if the bugs are there now, i wouldn't want to be there in summer.

      Yeah Peter this is a part of the west highland way and I got to meet a lot of people doing the west Highland way on the trail. The devils staircase has been a bucket list of mine for a while. Views were better than expected on the hill I choose.

    Easy camping food idea: a chook breast, corn tortillas and some pickled cabbage and hot sauce for tasty tacos. If you can be bothered, you can even cook and pull apart the chicken at home then freeze it and just heat it up out there.

    • @deekelley891
      @deekelley891 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The small packaged chicken weighs nothing and no worries about spoiling

      Thanks for the suggestion. Where possible I’ll try and cook the meals in the tent but if I feel I need to do anything at home then as you said I’ll cook and freeze it. ATB Gaz

    Really enjoyed this one,I live in the Lake District just south of the border & as nice as it is,it's just a kiddies playground compared to what's on offer up north of the border, personally I absolutely love Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ..in fact a recent DNA test showed me to be 58% Scottish 😁..I'll take that to be honest 😂..thanks for sharing another brilliant trip,cheers matey.

    Hey Gaz, glad to hear you're keeping the Soulo, I'd say it's the perfect tent for winter in the snow when you want to go a bit lighter than the Nallo.
    Also, if you want a good and cheap groundsheet for the Nallo vestibule, there's a sale on at Outlet Camping, search for the Robens Voyager 2ex groundsheet, £14 down from 35 at the moment. Should fit your vestibule well enough. I bought one for my Robens, v.happy with it.

    • @GazTheExplorer
      @GazTheExplorer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Mark,
      The Soulo is worth keeping. Might not use it all the time but it’s nice to have the option to still take it on the stormy nights. Nallo 2GT will probably be used more for the space as mentioned and to be fair it’s not much heavier than the Soulo. Thanks for suggesting the groundsheet. At the moment I’m happy without the groundsheet but it’s an option for the future if I ever change my mind.

    • @marko9912
      @marko9912 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GazTheExplorer I have the Robens Starlite 2 and the Voyager 2ex, about the same size as the Soulo and Nallo. The Voyager is like a palace compared to the other so I agree it's worth it sometimes carrying the extra weight. See if you have any issues with condensation from the grass inside the vestibule, might be worth getting a groundsheet then. Look forward to seeing your next video, cheers.

    Great video as always gaz, don't stress out too much about the cooking its content and you keep it interesting when you do it. I hope to do more hills and such myself next year when I finally get on the road and my first stop will be Glencoe!
    the Soulo is a solid tent but it really is overkill 98% of the time, if I had one, I'd probably only bring it if I knew the conditions were going to be dodgy, it's like my lanshan, cracking tent super light but the condensation and sil nylon make it a pain in the balls to use lol so if it's a wee hike I'm on ill just bring the elixir (love that tent)
    All the best dude.

    • @GazTheExplorer
      @GazTheExplorer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Forrix,
      I’m enjoying the cooking since it gives me something else to do on the longer nights. You will enjoy Glencoe but make sure you visit places like Tyndrum and Killin which are nearby because both locations are just as stunning!
      I agree about the Soulo and I’ll only take it out if I think the weather will be really poor. I have good options now for tents which will help with my future camps.

    Used to wildcamp every weekend, primarily in the caringorms, for that used hillebergs of which bought 8 over the years including the Soulo; currently only having the Soulo BL, Akto and anjan 2.
    Have been where you are once when did the west highland way prior to becoming a hillwalker, at that time was accompanied by somebody from inverness who only had a tarp; he was eaten alive by midges.
    You mention how strong the Soulo RL is as survived 50mph winds while a Vango failed. Well , don't have a high oppinion of vangos, they are known to fail, particularly when pitching. 50mph is really nothing for a hilleberg; even the red label tunnels like the katium can take 80mph from the side and over 100mph (4 times the power of 50mph) pitched into the wind without double pole'ing with.

      Thanks Rich,
      The mat is very comfortable but not warm. It’s a good option on the warmer nights but for winter camping something with more insulation is a must. I would still recommend to most campers👍

    Hey Gaz, do you have any experience with the tarptent scarp 1 and if so do you think it would have held strong in some of the more challenging conditions that you have camped in ?

    • @GazTheExplorer
      @GazTheExplorer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I personally have never used the Scarp 1 but another TH-camr simply known as Scotlands Mountains uses it. All I’ll say is if he uses it then it must be good. The Scarp 1 should handle most of the weather conditions the UK has to offer.
