Nice to see stuff from my childhood when you knew what they all were without needing to look at a badge, I especially liked the Bedford trucks, the TKs in particular.
I was talking to a retired lorry driver a few weeks ago he was saying in his day they had no power steering, no semi or automatic gearboxes. He said you had to have arm,muscles like Charles Atlas. A very interesting guy.
That Bedford TK with the beaver tail, I built one very similar in about 1980 out of an old National Carriers box van. It was done at NCLs Davis St workshop in Cardiff. We used it all around South Wales as recovery vehicle and for moving BR vehicles between depots. excellent video thanks
Was that an Anglia hearse at 1.13? Hate to be six foot four and go to my grave it that, legs hanging out the back! Classic British buses and trucks, brought back some memories, just loved the Tom Maughan "Thames Trader" and the beautiful countryside with those old stone fences. Great collection, thank you for posting.
The old Thames Trader, I worked on a fleet of these for a Manchester haulier along with AECs and ERFs. Those Traders always did over 200,00 miles before any major engine problems happened,we always had a rebuilt engine in the store’s ready to fit if need be,engine out and in in under 5hours loaded and ready to go. Then came the D-series,engine troubles from day one in 1965,they were crap when first introduced.
Yeah I had a T.T van, side loading door, rattly engine cowling on the inside. The only thing evr went wrong was the fuel pipe pulled itself off the filter.
