Thats a rather impressive bridge. Didn't realise it was that long.

It's about 1.2 Klm long on a cool day :-) Sure is a long way over to that check rail the opposite flange would be well and truly into the ballast, scary when you're that high above the creek with no side bridge structure.

Asynchronous motors; fairly standard Worldwide now. I'd have expected at least a splash of yellow on the front ends - it might be ugly but it helps with visibility.

Gosh, these new electric trains are speedy.

That was a test run for the bridge, for which there are ever growing grumbles regarding expansion joints buckling the track. Wonder if the thermocouples for measuring concrete core temperature, vibration sensors and wind load sensors have finished being installed yet? Considering the train was only doing about 10km/h I wasn't impressed by the noise, both inside and outside. Very long wheelbase aren't they. Tell us again how they will negotiate into platform 2, the new Noarlunga platform?

The pair of screaming Cummins engines driving a hydraulic transmission, almost as good as the old Red Hen units they replaced! You're right the 2000 AND the 3000 class are far more adaptable than the new 4000 units, which are fixed 3 car sets, a dummy coach each end with a power receiver car in the middle.

It sounds like the motors that they use on the transperth b sets.

The 2000 and 2100 class are my favourite and i like the sound of the engine. Plus they can go from 2 carriages up to 6.

One of the biggest problems I have with Adelaide transit - it's slow as molasses really... If the trains moved as fast as other states (NSW for instance) It would be a 6 minute trip from city to Port Adelaide instead of a 15 minute one, and most of that would be spent stationary.

Looks ok, now all they need to do get people of the buses and onto the trains. Get the buses to feed the trains where ever possible. Like what they did when in Perth where my sister lives. When the Mandurah line was opened the buses to the city along the route were stopped. It might mean more frequent trains but stops duplication of services.

Yep. That's definitely a train going over a bridge. Checks out.

Awesome work! Bring on all the upgrades.

Partly because we have too many stations to stop at, less than 1 klm spacing usually, and too many track defects needing speed restrictions.

whorayful These units bear resemblance to EMU sets running in Brisbane and Perth, and if they are that similar, they will have two powered coaches per 3-car unit, with the "power receiver car" in the middle the actual trailer.

As of 21/08/14 the catenary has taken it's first, when a 15 year old girl jumped or was pushed from a road bridge onto the live wire. Wait for the questions to be asked now. Why aren't the road and pedestrian overpasses fully closed in like Perth has done. Why isn't the live wire shrouded in high risk areas. How is the system even live when clearances to vehicles at level crossings don't meet supply authority published (on their website) minimum clearances? I love the sound of sphincter muscles in the morning.

Hahaha our city's shit system is kinda slow still with the electric trains!
