- Chengdu (成都), the capital city of Sichuan Province (四川省) in China, is a vibrant metropolis known for its rich history, cultural significance, and economic importance. With a population of over 20 million as of the 2020 Census, it stands as the fourth most populous city in China. Chengdu is celebrated as the "Country of Heaven" (天府之国) and the "Land of Abundance" due to its fertile Chengdu Plain, which has supported human settlement for thousands of years, including the ancient Sanxingdui culture. The city's history dates back to the Kingdom of Shu and has been a continuous settlement with an unchanged name through China's imperial, republican, and communist eras.
Chengdu's economy is diverse, with strong sectors in machinery, automobile, medicine, food, and information technology industries. It is also a leading financial hub, home to over 300 Fortune 500 companies' branches. The city boasts two international airports, making it the third Chinese city to have such a feature, alongside Beijing (北京) and Shanghai (上海). Chengdu is also known for its contribution to science and education, hosting numerous universities and research institutes.
Culturally, Chengdu is recognized by UNESCO as a city of gastronomy, reflecting the rich Sichuan cuisine known globally. It is also synonymous with the giant panda, hosting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a significant center for conservation and research of this Chinese national symbol. The city's historical and modern attributes make it an essential link between Eastern China and Western China, further enhancing its status as a key economic, cultural, and transportation hub in the country.

This looks better, cleaner and safer than much more expensive cities in the world.
The panda is escaping the designer stores ;-) There must be a lot of wealthy people living there, as the stores are larger than in Paris!
Although Chengdu is prosperous, but compared to other cities in China, prices are actually not high, making it a very suitable city for tourism. 🦆✨🐼🐼
I think the prices at Gucci, Chanel and the other designer stores are more or less the same all over the country, or am I wrong? I was wondering about all those people with large suitcases on wheels, I was thinking that maybe they buy clothes cheap here and sell them for more at home in another part of the country. Or maybe they were tourists taking their suitcase for a walk in the shopping center.@@DuckTravel

This is Chunxi road where the main bus, train and subway are. Hence the sight of suitcases. China's fashion and clothing industry is sophisticated. It involves the fashion designer, the fashion house, wholesalers, retailers, textile and accessories industry, sewing factories, transportation and logistic.

@@bldomainbro there’s nothing wrong with making some extra money, it is real just as luxury goods are cheaper in Europe or certain brands have large sales in the US which makes tourism of shopping and maybe some people buy to resale or to gift friends and relatives back in their countries. So is not “weird” is just economy is different for everyone.

I have been countless times is Chengdu. I never saw the sun there. Otherwise, city and people are great and the food is my favorite in China.
Yeah, that’s the weather typically around Sichuan Basin, cloudy mostly. However, it’s been said that there’re more sunny days now, and usually when it’s summer time there’s more sunshine in Chengdu.
