Not all cards in sets are designed with playability in mind. Akroan Horse is a flavor horse, since Theros was based on Greek/Roman mythology they had to include a reference to the Trojan Horse, one of the most well known myths of that era

+Kimberly Burnett first off, when you buy a box you usually get 5-6 mythics. In a fat pack you usually get like one. Also the mythics he got were pretty gosh darn good. These are the reasons he called it mythic madness.
I got 0 mytics in 2 fat packs and 3 mythics in a box ):
I got fat packs of Born of the Gods and Nyx, I got no gods, legendary creatures or planeswalkers. I got a crappy skeleton mythic

the meh on the soldier of pantheon made me laugh. such a good card in mono-white builds :O

the theros block gives me a ton of nostalgia, i know that it just recently rotated out but its the set i had some of the most fun with,
Some friends and I go in on a booster box. Sometimes two depending on how many of us there are. But what makes it fun is we will do a couple rounds of sealed. Then some drafting. Then we make more well thought out decks. But it's tons of fun getting a box with four people and having a sealed night.
Devotion will be a big part of ramp decks in standard I think. Forget about the gods, it'll be about the shrine & casting 5, 6, 7 etc mana spells on turn 4. That is what devotion can do. It will be incredibly powerful.
I am happy for the slower play! I was so excited to hear that play was going to slow down from a ton of people! Keep up the good work! :)
opened a couple cases of Theros for a local game store, and half of their cases had boxes with packs that contained 3 commons and a rare with the rest uncommons.
On my first theros fat pack I pulled Thoughtseize, a mythic Cerberus(forgot the name), a red and green planeswalker( also forgot name) and a foil Elspeth.
Polukranos, Stormbreath, and suprisingly Ember Swallower are all constructed playable. Polukranos can kill small weenies, Stormbreath hurts control players, and Ember Swallower mana screws people then leaves them with a 7/8 to deal with and 3 less mana.
Since Theros is a Greek-based set, the Akroan horse is a rather nifty take on the Trojan Horse legend. You gift the opponent a giant horse, then your soldiers climb out of there and ransack the city.
I've seen some crazy mythic ratios in loose packs. Bought 12 gatecrash packs. Almost every pack had either a foil rare or a mythic in it. It was CRAZY.
Also the very first pack of Theros I ever opened had a foil Ashen Rider. Needless to say I sold it right away. The next pack had a normal Ashen Rider.
Then I won a pack round at the prerelease and got Xenagos.
Theros is my jam.
Dual colored decks use the scry lands in constructed as a way to replace guildgates. Tri color decks might want them as 1 ofs or 2 ofs, but otherwise they clutter up the speed of the mana base too much.
In my last fat pack (Dragons of Tarkir) I thought I struck out; I only got one mythic... Then I realized I got a $30 Foil Atarka's Command.
Pulled A thassa, a heliod, a thoughtsieze a nykthos and a temple of silence, and an anger of the gods in my fat pack, was nuts
A guy at my prerelease opened up a foil elspeth and a heliod in the same pack. Then he also opened up the other two planeswalkers, all within the same prerelease pack. I would argue the luckiest guy out.
I've only ever bought two Fat Packs and they were both Gatecrash.
Got a Prime Speaker Zegana, two Borborygmos Enraged and a Master Biomancer. I also got a different mystic from another pack, but that wasn't from a fat pack.
Edit: Haha, let's change this. Bought a KTK fat pack and got Sorin, Solemn Visitor and Flooded Strand.
That's only if you're playing a Standard tournment/event. If you play Modern you can use any cards from 8th Edition up to the most recent release. There are some banned cards in Modern though, so check out the official ban list for that format at the MTG official site.
So after selling a few cards, not really a few, i got 3 boxes of theros.........3 xenagos 4 elspeth one is foil, 3 ashiok, 2 heliod, 3 thoughtseize, 2 nylea, almost a playset of all the scry lands and a foil stormbringer dragon.
Needless to say, theros is a good set for me so far
Beard its the Trojan Horse. In Greek Lore the Trojan horse was brought into Troy (given to your opponent) by the Greeks with Greek soldiers inside(why you get the tokens during each of that oppnents turns. Its clunky but its very flavorful.

So far I've opened up one booster box and pat pack.
BB had a foil Elspeth, foil Stormbreath Dragon, a 2nd Stormbreath Dragon, 3 scry lands, 3 gods, 4 god weapons, Thoughtsieze an an Ashen Rider. Value box!
FP had another Ashen Rider, Erebos, which was the one god i didnt get from the BB, Underworld Cerberus, Polukranos, and Medomai the Ageless.
Soldier of the Pantheon may not be worth big money, but he is a staple, very staple, 1 drop in all sorts of formats.
elvish mystic, scavenging ooze, voyaging satyr, sylvan caryatid, boon satyr, bow of nylea, and arbor colossus are some good cards, also burning tree emissary can do work when chaining into an ooze or another emissary. It's really all about devotion with her. Hard to deal with a 6/6 indestructible if she sticks. There's some good green red decklists out there too. gore clan rampager, domri rade, garruk caller of beasts, and xenagos, but those planeswalkers are expensive.
Its amazing for Zedruu EDH too. Although if you aren't into the format, I can understand where you are coming from.
I think that Akroan Horse works well in 1 on 1 battles- They control it, so THEIR opponents get the tokens.
I like the deck boxes because I can put extra cards in them. It's better than just having the cards in a box unprotected.
I just opened my Theros fat pack and pulled a whole wad of value. Erebos, God of the Dead, Thoughtseize, Soldier of the Pantheon, Fabled Hero, and Elspeth, Sun's Champion (from my first booster).
it means. how ever many creatures you controll, the mana symbol up top. add the actuall ones that show the colour together and get your devotion
Awesome fat pack - Makes up for all those mythic-less boosters from your event packs and pre-releases.
When I read the title I thought it would be sth like that disgusting 9-mythic Innistrad Fat Pack i opened. Don't worry only 1 Lilli and 2 Geists( 1 foil) the rest was crappy mythics ^^
scry lands are amazing. Not sure if you've ever played with them or not but they are great.
Putting the Fat Pack to one side, in my booster box of Theros I got 2 Polukranos, 1 Ashiok, 1 Elspeth, 2 different Gods, some nice Minotaur cards, Tymet the Murder King, Anthousa Setessan Hero, 2 Boon Satyrs (1 foil), 2 Sylvan Caryatids (1 foil), Mistcutter Hydra, a Bow, a Hammer and the Whip, Daxos of Meletis, 2 Reapers of the Wild (1 foil) and Temples of Mystery, Silence and Triumph.
I didn’t get any Thoughtseize, Hero’s Downfall or the gods I actually wanted!
I got a fatpack a few days ago and pulled a foil Master of Waves. Just made my money back.
I didn't like the scry lands at first, but with some play testing they've grown on me.
Akroan Horse gives YOU tokens, not them. It's pretty much a GG on lock if you can draft it and Purphoros.
Aside from that, it doesn't really have much use. Assemble the Legion is basically better in every way.
i pulled a Nissa, Worldwaker and a foil chain veil in a m15 fat pack. Best pack ever!!!!!
Akroan Horse is based on greek mythology. WotC didn't just get bored,
ya...its greek myth but, it's just a filler rare. Someone in R&D probably said, "hey i remember history class in highschool; lets do something with that but, make it shitty."
It is a filler rare but it wasnt just a spur of the moment thing

Akroan Horse + Gift of Immortality = hilarity ensues
...especially in multiplayer
You can play Theros, m14, and any set from the RtR block together.
The reason the horse exists is for flavor and flavor alone plus I think its going to instantly go into the commander deck that likes to give people gifts (cant remember her name)
First mythic? I've just been very very lucky. In my pre I got Heliod, Erebos, and Thassa. Then in my prize i got Elspeth, and Heliod. Then I got another Sealed pack and I got a Stormbreath dragon. Living the dream
The Scry lands WILL be played in Standard. They're better than Guild Gates, so any deck that shares their colors will use them. And, any deck that is going to have them will want 3-4, so it's safe to assume their price will remain at $6- $10.
You pulled better out of this fat pack than I did in my entire booster box.
Awesome! I got a Nylea and a Heliod from my booster box. As well as an underworld cerberus and medomai the ageless. Also got a thoughtseize and hero's downfall :) so much value in this set!

the scry lands are great in constructed!They are much better than guildgates if the colors you are playing have a temple.I would highly suggest playing them
I get these to add on to my decks, I have about 10 good Grixis cards, so I'm thinking of buying Hour of Devastation Fat Pack, it has great Grixis. I already have the new Bolas
If you get a M14 Core Set Fatpack I hope you gain 2x chandra pyromaster Regular and 2 x chandra pyromaster Foiled.
The first pack I opened in my split box today: Thoughtseize and a foil Anax & cymede.
When you see fat fingers opening a box and cardpacks in an almost ritualistic way, you know you are in a MTG video ;)
Cracked one of these open today, i got an Elspeth, The Water God, two of the legendary lands,a couple of decent rares, and a ton of decent uncommons. Loved it, i have a video showing what i got (NOT AN UNBOXING), if anyone wants to see it i might post it.

I'm waiting for Magics Origins to release before I start buying. I know it's more cost effective to buy singles, but there's a sense of satisfaction and nostalgia that accompanies the happiness of opening a booster pack. . . followed by the disappointment upon realizing you didn't get anything good, which is quickly remedied by opening the next booster pack :P. The vicious cycle continues.
I am going to buy a booster box of origins you can pre-order on eBay ☺

Elspeth is 40$!!! Man...I'd like to get a pull like that! Every time I watch you vids, you always get good cards...the most expensive card i got was like a 5 buck vamp nocturnus...

Baught 9 boosters yesterday 3 conspiracy, 2 Journey to nyx and 4 Theros and got pretty juicy cards, some of the rares and mythics was Xenagos the reveler, Dack Fayden, Polukranos the world eater, Prognostic sphinx, Foiled Triad of fates, Mana Confluence.

I pulled 2 Elspeth's today. The 1st pack in my booster box and my 1st pack in my fat pack.
Just opened my fat pack and got Erebos, his whip and curse of the swine. I also got an Elspeth in my prerelease.
My friend was a lucksack with his prerelease pulls too :( (foil heliod, thoughtseize and stormbreath dragon)
Luckily in my first theros draft I got a Thassa, was super happy about that

Tell me about it. I learned my lesson long ago about booster packs, I just have no luck with them, and I stopped buying them. I watch stuff like this, and I see what other people get, and I just (used to) get nothing compared to it. My friend got the Theros big box for $90, made his money back selling like 5 cards to people.

Yes they do. People will generally use all multicolor lands available to them. Sadly, Guildgates are the only common ones, and are the most useless compared to the lands that you can pay 2 life to come into play untapped (going for $9-$10 per land single) and these scry lands that people are using if they get them (~$5 per land single).
I just opened my first toolkit and i got from the 4 boosters 3 mythics and 1 rare foil. XD That seems kind of rare.
my first mythic of that set was at a pre release I pulled medomai the ageless its a sphinx and when it deals damage to a player u take another turn

In my fat pack, I opened an Underworld Cerberus and a FOIL Heliod in the same pack
mine does but when they buy your cards for 25% of there current price, its not something you like. they say its for when the card falls out of standard, but if its re printed its back in and they can make tons of money again. i got offered $2 for a foil underworld cerberus by then when the card was worth $20.

For someone who doesn't have any Magic cards and wants to start playing, would you recommend buying the Theros fat pack or the M14 deck builder then buy Theros after getting familiar with the game?
I just opened a fat pack...my first pack ever... Got no mythics and only one foil...not treacly sure about the dynamics of pack opening but I got bidet of thassa, ship breaker kraken, boon satyr and some others....alright pulls but a little disappointed i didn't get a god or planeswalker...

My friend gifted me with a Journey into Nyx and Born of the Gods Fat Pack for my birthday, had 2x Brimaz (1x Foil), Ajani, Mentor or Heroes and Athreos for the most valuable, then some 2-3€ rares and some few cent rare, pretty nice pulls, pretty much paid for the 2 Fat Packs (Well actually the foul Brimat alone ^^ ) and didnt even pay for them :D Guess the hard earned cash going right into a Theros Fatpack to complete the trilogy, hoping for an Eslpeth though :D
too bad brimaz isnt in journey into nyx...

So, I used to have all the main 5 planeswalkers, Chandra, Ajani, Jace, Liliana, and Garruk. I made a trade with this guy the first year I started MTG, 2014, and gave him all of those planeswalkers PLUS Nylea for a whole deck. I thought to myself "Yay! New deck!" Now I realize I traded $85 worth of cards for a $15 deck I could have bought at Wal-Mart. Can anyone give a story like that?

What have you got against the horse? It gives you the token doesn't it?? As it's a permanent under your opponents control, they give you the 1/1 token,as you are the opponent to the controller of the card?
