- In October of 2023 I spent a week in Dunedin on holiday with the aim of filming as many trains as I can around the area. This videos is the result of a few 24hr trainspotting sessions and a week in Dunedin. Taking a break from the DL and EF class locomotives in the north, In this video we'll see a variety of the South Island workhorses, being DXB/C DFB/T and DC class locomotives. I know the video says "KiwiRail Action" but I was lucky enough to catch a few charters run by Dunedin Railways using their DJ locomotives on they ran a train South and North which was pretty cool to see. Another thing to note in the title is it also says "Around Dunedin" this is true with the exception of chasing train 934 to Oamaru. on top of a week in Dunedin, I also spent a week on Christchurch filming as many trains as I could. Unfortunately I couldn't get around as much and the weather was pretty bad on a few days, but it still turned out okay. Once this video is uploaded I will begin working on the Christchurch video then after that I will also try make a video about my journey on the Coastal Pacific behind DXR 8022 (Still trying to figure out what the video will be) but for now
Enjoy some Dunedin Rail fanning!
Special Thank to the KiwiRail Crews for the toots and waves!
Thanks.)

Great video Matt, the causeway footage was fantastic.
Thanks! I'm glad it turned out how it did.
Looks like you had a whole lot of fun filming trains all over that part of New Zealand last month! Great footage!
Thanks!
I enjoyed your innovative photography and locations. Great work.
Nice to see the Dunedin area and hear the DX class again.
Actually it's a DFT leading with a DC trailing
Great Video. Nice to see familiar trains around Dunedin. Wingatui Drone footage very good.
Thanks!
Brilliant work mate !
Which was better for rail fanning, Dunners or CHCH? I like he dark bit on the top of the nose? of the loco. Wonder if it's that grippy stuff to walk on, or to help cut down on glare (like vintage aircraft with an unpainted fuselage)? 27:10 That's a cool shot 👍
I thought DC 4951 was still in Auckland???
Its been down south for a few years now
Its livery sister is in Auckland, though (4663)
Belos lugares por onde trafegam as locomotivas e vagões da Kiwi Rail da nova Zelândia este vídeo ficou muito bom parabéns
Esta é a cidade de Dunedin na região de Otago
Isn’t some of the rolling stock here owned by the Otago Regional Council, and not Kiwirail?
Yes.
@@KiwiRailSpotter Hohoho your title needs correcting then.
