See, when we did our fence here in Ausyralia (only 6 feet), we cut, burnt & poisened everything 2 meters either side of the fence (including our neighbours side- clearing also acts as a fire break).
I also do an upper & lower solar/ battery powered fence to keep foxes, people & Drop Bears out of our 2.5 acres. I have added cameras on every fence corner (and another 50 meters further up), and the Llamas kick up a stink when ever something is in the lower paddock when it shouldnt be- humans included

Thanks Curtis for sharing, sounds an essential barrier in keeping everyone safe, including the bears. We don't have wild bears here in Aotearoa but love the fact you have a Gallaghers electirc fence system that was invented just down the road here in Hamilton NZ, by Bill Gallagher in 1936. Funny how simple things can start as he only wanted to solve the problem of keeping his old horse from eating the tires off his car. Please keep sharing as love your style of video mixing education with your philosophy. Nga mihi James

Even in my backyard in the city, I'm constantly battling skunks digging under my fence. I fill in one hole or pile up stones to fill it in, and they just dig a new one beside it. And that's only on less than 1/4 acre, a couple hundred feet of fence. I can't imagine dealing with 2,400 feet of fence!

I would have said that the hardest part about fencing is putting in the posts, but after building several hundred metres of exclusion fencing last year (rabbits and kangaroos are my problem) I say that tying high-tensile wire is by far the hardest part - a killer workout for your arms and wrists! Straining up that wire then really puts hair on your chest.

This looks really well made! My dad does contract fencing in Australia and the difference in quality build materials mean it can last for DECADES before getting loose or wobbly and won’t just fall apart within 3 years from rust 😂 of course may need some tightening and adjustments over time but nothing you can’t do yourself with a tutorial and a couple wrenches if the original wiring was good quality it will bend fine!

A dog with a good bark works great for us. 2 Pyrenees and no wildlife. Our neighbors all have bears getting into their trash but we've never seen even a sign. Chickens free range and the coop hasn't been closed up and secured in a few years with no casualties. However we are just below the tree line - juniper and sage brush scrub with patches of timber on the northern slopes so less cover for predators.

Curtis I would spray that fence for vegetation control 2-3 times a year about 3' out on each side plus hose down any brush getting close and that will eliminate any weed eating that you'd ever have to do, plus keep the trees/brush back. Use glysophate, 3 way, plus a pre emergent like imazapyr or flumioxazin all at full rate to stop things from regrowing so fast, plus add a sticker and some improve to increase the products performance. Also as another stated I'd make a trail inside the fence around the entire thing to help facilitate this and fence checks with a quad or something of the sort. Get that thing down to bare dirt and keep it that way it will be so much easier to maintain, if things are aloud to grow into it you are gonna have a mess.. I have a landscape business and this is how we deal with fences, no trimmers needed.

I have to admit that I think of the pretty horrific story from suburban Los Angeles, if I recall, of a large male cougar who was protected by the authorities, who came across a pen of very costly llamas being raised for their wool, protected by an electrified 9 foot fence and a back up generator. But . . . there came a night when the owners were absent and the lightning struck and took out both the electricity and the generator and that cougar was in the neighborhood with the insanely bad luck that sometimes pops up. He jumped on the shed inside the fence and the llamas went berserk with his smell and broke out though the door was locked. He killed them all in a blood lust frenzy.
