Her early life story is very dramatic, fraught with extreme hardship, and then she was adopted by a wonderful-sounding woman, and her career became this mythic-feeling musical transcendence. She feels like such an old soul when she sings. I believe that she found a benefactor in the same famous Russian musical composer who also came out of retirement to write music for Dimash.

It is Diana's real voice - and the voice of the century. She had shot to fame a year earlier when winning the 2018 "You are Super" competition, all four of her performances on it being in their different ways masterpieces. This performance is the second of three performances she gave a year later when repeating the exercise and winning the same competition in 2019. After she won Igor Krutoy (Dimash, Lara Fabian etc) bought her a flat in Moscow so that she could move there and enrol in a top music school. She then started to work intensively on her upper register. The resulting widening of her range is evident in the 9-episode 2021 "ShowMaskGoOn" competition with very well known professional singers (who also acted as the judges), which she again won. Her episode #1 performance - if that is the right word, "epic Greek tragedy" is more fitting - of Elvis's song "Can't help falling in love" quite literally left them all stunned and stupefied. She has started to compose and write her own songs now - she is 20 - and "Revelation" in particular is very remarkable. But most reactors go through her back catalogue first. The competition performances had hundreds of millions of views before they were taken down because of a spat between YT and the Russian TV company. But all have been re-posted now. Diana's development has been all the more incredible because she was orphaned at the age of 3 following terrible abuse by her mother that left her with broken bones and speech problems. She was rescued from a state orphanage and adopted by Irina Ponik, the wonderful woman she now calls her "real" mother.

She has covers and originals, including one full album. All she does is brilliant, unique. And, as if her talent was not amazing, from her participation in the russian version of The Masked Singer, it turns out she is also a vocal chameleon. I have been a fan of Diana’s for over five years. She’s a Contralto but her divine range notes 🎶 are absolutely STUNNING too, she recently sang an ARIA Opera “ Fly on the Wings of Wind” and I absolutely loved her performances on the Masked Singer. She dressed up like ERMINE a Japanese Kitsume’ 🦊. Diana does not have to stick her tongue in her throat…🥹🙆🏻♀️🤔. She can sing even lower easily but she chooses to Sing in normal vocal tones all the time. I absolutely 💯 love ❤️ her cover of “Sweet Dreams “ she sang on the masked singer. She has a polyphonic voice. In essence, she can sing a duet...maybe even a trio...with herself! It's more common in the East (much like throat singing) because it's part of their traditional songs. It's a lost art here in the West, though some of her music reminds me of music heard only during sacred (closed to the public) ceremony of certain American Indian groups. Someone created a virtual duet between her and Dimash. Talk about gorgeous AND mind blowing at the same time!

As of September 2021, her functional range was measured as C3 to B♭5. Together with her tessitura, it identifies her potential voice type as dramatic contralto, the deepest, darkest, and most potent contralto voice. Women are typically divided into three main groups: soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto, and that contralto is "the lowest female voice". Diana has the rarest of female voices; in the lowest range. She is a Contralto. She is also, as Rebecca has described; 'darkened' her tone here even more with that vocal manipulation. In her more recent pieces, in more recent years she does this less, but her natural tone remains startlingly deep and rich. Somewhat like Dimash, she has a very wide range of octaves, composes music, and sings across a number of genres, and in multiple languages. Now 20 years old, she is completing her tertiary vocal studies. She is a unique talent and very much a rising star to watch! The voice you hear is her voice unprocessed. I get your confusion, this was my 1st exposure to Diana and i had to watch the video 6 times before i believed what my ears were telling me. Diana is the most dramatic of the dramatic contraltos who is also polyphonic, capable of generating more than 1 note at once. She has a sad origin story but has grown into a formidable young woman and remarkable performer. She is 15 here, now 20.
You have just listened to what may be a true contralto. “Diana Ankudinova, A Russian National Treasure” (My opinion), I have been following her for a while. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. Ohhh!! Your going down the Diana rabbit hole!! THIS IS HER VOICE & you aint heard nothing yet!! Diana is a rare true contralto and has polyphonic capabilities, which allows her (as I understand) to sing two notes at the same time. The last guy on the panel to press his buzzer is Igor Krutoy (possibly butchered his surname) He is a world-famous composer and songwriter, he retired a few years back but came out of retirement to work with Dimash (you often see him accompanying Dimash on piano) He has also taken Diana under his wing. Diana's background is extremely sad and dark, her mother who was/is a drug addict often abused her, attempted to drown Diana in the bathtub, then abandoned Diane, on the streets of Russia, in the snow, with a broken arm. Diana was 4 years old and unable to speak. Her foster mother (now her adoptive mother) a speech therapist, took Diana for yodelling lessons to help her find her voice and the rest is history. Last I heard, Diana was speaking around 4/5 languages. Diana's voice reminds me of the mythical siren, whose voice hypnotized sailors and led them to their deaths. Diana so amazing, please watch more. Her performance of the traditional piece Rechenka is mind blowing. Her early life story is very dramatic, fraught with extreme hardship, and then she was adopted by a wonderful-sounding woman, and her career became this mythic-feeling musical transcendence. She feels like such an old soul when she sings. I believe that she found a benefactor in the same famous Russian musical composer who also came out of retirement to write music for Dimash.

so glad you put Diana on your list, I found her when she did Rechenka (river) been a huge fan ever since, can't help falling in love is an epic masterpiece of mind blowing intensity, she did that aged 20, enjoy the ride with this lady, she's so special it hurts, natural dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones, also after having the saddest start any child could have in life (abandoned by her mother with broken bones at a bus stop in winter) to being rescued and adopted by a kind lady Irina, that worked in the orphanage and on Diana's developmental delays from neglect with singing lessons, then her voice was discovered. beautiful girl inside and out, my joy is to see her do well.

She had shot to fame a year earlier when winning the 2018 "You are Super" competition, all four of her performances on it being in their different ways masterpieces.
This performance is the second of three performances she gave a year later when repeating the exercise and winning the same competition in 2019. After she won Igor Krutoy (Dimash, Lara Fabian etc) bought her a flat in Moscow so that she could move there and enrol in a top music school. She then started to work intensively on her upper register.
The resulting widening of her range is evident in the 9-episode 2021 "ShowMaskGoOn" competition with very well known professional singers (who also acted as the judges), which she again won. Her episode #1 performance - if that is the right word, "epic Greek tragedy" is more fitting - of Elvis's song "Can't help falling in love" quite literally left them all stunned and stupefied.
She has started to compose and write her own songs now - she is 20 - and "Revelation" in particular is very remarkable. But most reactors go through her back catalogue first. The competition performances had hundreds of millions of views before they were taken down because of a spat between YT and the Russian TV company. But all have been re-posted now.
Diana's development has been all the more incredible because she was orphaned at the age of 3 following terrible abuse by her mother that left her with broken bones and speech problems. She was rescued from a state orphanage and adopted by Irina Ponik, the wonderful woman she now calls her "real" mother.

That Mr Ray is a Polyphonic Dramatic Contralto. That has an amazing high end register. The reason you have never heard one before is because, that we know of, she is it. In my humble opinion she is a voice for the ages. A real life Siren. It's like listening to mother earth sing.
This was one of her first well known performances. I suggest you check out her last published song, in russian, from her channel, called "The Day You". From there I am sure you will want to check out everything else. She has covers and originals, including one full album. All she does is brilliant, unique. And, as if her talent was not amazing, from her participation in the russian version of The Masked Singer, it turns out she is also a vocal chameleon.
That right there is the absolute top shelf in female vocals I have heard in my 50 years. Enjoy your journey.
Quick edit: if you want something in your style you can hear her rapping a bit in a song called "Romeo and Juliet", which happens to be one of my favorites of her, it's so chill.

I have been a fan of Diana’s for over five years. She’s a Contralto but her divine range notes 🎶 are absolutely STUNNING too, she recently sang an ARIA Opera “ Fly on the Wings of Wind” and I absolutely loved her performances on the Masked Singer. She dressed up like ERMINE a Japanese Kitsume’ 🦊. Diana does not have to stick her tongue in her throat…🥹🙆🏻♀️🤔. She can sing even lower easily but she chooses to Sing in normal vocal tones all the time. I absolutely 💯 love ❤️ her cover of “Sweet Dreams “ she sang on the masked singer. She has a polyphonic voice. In essence, she can sing a duet...maybe even a trio...with herself! It's more common in the East (much like throat singing) because it's part of their traditional songs. It's a lost art here in the West, though some of her music reminds me of music heard only during sacred (closed to the public) ceremony of certain American Indian groups. Someone created a virtual duet between her and Dimash. Talk about gorgeous AND mind blowing at the same time!

Diana has the rarest of female voices; in the lowest range. She is a Contralto. She is also, as Rebecca has described; 'darkened' her tone here even more with that vocal manipulation. In her more recent pieces, in more recent years she does this less, but her natural tone remains startlingly deep and rich. Somewhat like Dimash, she has a very wide range of octaves, composes music, and sings across a number of genres, and in multiple languages. Now 20 years old, she is completing her tertiary vocal studies. She is a unique talent and very much a rising star to watch! Diana had a very challenging start and the world is Lucky to have her. 😍🤩❤👋👋👋

The voice you hear is her voice unprocessed. I get your confusion, this was my 1st exposure to Diana and i had to watch the video 6 times before i believed what my ears were telling me. Diana is the most dramatic of the dramatic contraltos who is also polyphonic, capable of generating more than 1 note at once. She has a sad origin story but has grown into a formidable young woman and remarkable performer. She is 15 here, now 20.

She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful.

Ohhh!! Your going down the Diana rabbit hole!! THIS IS HER VOICE & you aint heard nothing yet!! Diana is a rare true contralto and has polyphonic capabilities, which allows her (as I understand) to sing two notes at the same time. The last guy on the panel to press his buzzer is Igor Krutoy (possibly butchered his surname) He is a world-famous composer and songwriter, he retired a few years back but came out of retirement to work with Dimash (you often see him accompanying Dimash on piano) He has also taken Diana under his wing. Diana's background is extremely sad and dark, her mother who was/is a drug addict often abused her, attempted to drown Diana in the bathtub, then abandoned Diane, on the streets of Russia, in the snow, with a broken arm. Diana was 4 years old and unable to speak. Her foster mother (now her adoptive mother) a speech therapist, took Diana for yodelling lessons to help her find her voice and the rest is history. Last I heard, Diana was speaking around 4/5 languages.
Diana's voice reminds me of the mythical siren, whose voice hypnotized sailors and led them to their deaths.
