  • Amazing ! Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany (after Berlin) and the eighth-largest city in the European Union. The city is home to approximately 1.8 million people, while the Hamburg Metropolitan Region (including parts of the neighboring Federal States of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein) has more than 4.3 million inhabitants. The port of Hamburg is the second-largest port in Europe (after that of Rotterdam), and the ninth-largest in the world.--------
    Hamburg's official name is the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (German: Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg).It makes reference to Hamburg's history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League, as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire, and also to the fact that Hamburg is a city-state and one of the sixteen States of Germany.------
    Hamburg is a major transportation hub in Northern Germany. It has become a media and industrial center, with factories such as Airbus, Blohm + Voss and Aurubis. The radio and television broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk and publishers such as Gruner + Jahr and Spiegel-Verlag represent the important media industry in Hamburg. In total there are more than 120,000 enterprises. The city is a major tourist destination both for domestic and overseas visitors, receiving about 7.7 million overnight stays in 2008.

    I have traveled our planet for many years, Hamburg was my base from 1971 until 1991. During my uni days I earned a living driving taxi, that was when I got to know the city and surrounding really very well.
    Hamburg is a city hard to beat, always nice - even when it rains.

      Hamburg is very beautiful, but maybe it's a different kind of beauty. Hamburg has not many old buildings but lots of green and many lively places with unique charm.
      I love to visit Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Stockholm but it would take really good reasons to make me move somewhere else and I would certainly come back to Hamburg. Many people here think like this because Hamburg is the city with the inhabitants that are most contented with their home town in Germany.

    Of course, Hamburg is not THE most beautiful city in the world, but ONE of those. Hamburg has the largest amount of bridges (difficult to count, I admit), AND (and that's not difficult to count), the largest number of high church towers in the world. When counting the tower of the city hall, Hamburg shows 6 towers higher than 110m. The only other city that can compete is Lübeck, also in North Germany, with 6 towers higher than 100m. That's why I hope they will never build skyscrapers in Hamburg.

    hi- it would appear that you are over-reacting to something that has been happening for 1000's of years. 100 years ago London was full of Germans (mostly in barbershops for some reason), 30 years later -full of Jews, 30 years after that full of blacks, then full of asians... now it seems london is full of south-americans. -yet Britian is still mostly white? (my point: migrants come and go)

  • @D3cyTH3r

    I've just finished a degree and learnt that you just cant make sweeping generalizations like that without proof and expect to be respected by the wider academic community... show me the exact -official- documents that show that 51%+ of the entire Turks population in your country are claiming benefits... ...

  • @D3cyTH3r
    @D3cyTH3r 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The German population was/had been shrinking for years (don't know if this has changed?) -European business leaders are desperate to compete with the larger emerging economies like China- this means attracting as many workers to your country as possible... yes this is bad news for the locals... if you don't like it... have more kids?

  • @D3cyTH3r
    @D3cyTH3r 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    fascinating stuff- shame they can't teach this stuff in schools without fear of it fueling the extreme right-wing... -Apologies to the vast majority of 'normal' Germans if I have made any generalizations (they are unintentional ); I know they are sick to death of hearing about their recent history, but guys like SISwaffen need putting in their place...

    Indeed, there are some skyscrapers, the most significant example being the former hotel Plaza at Dammtor Station (built 1973). But in the inner part of the city, ugly skyscrapers are also disappearing, take as an example the former Allianz building, which will be demolished soon.

  • @D3cyTH3r

    Hang on buddy- who said I was a fan of 'hip-hop' culture/its ideals?; I would like to acknowledge your masters- but you worship the ideals of a regime that murdered 11 million non-combatants in cold blood... clearly academic achievement has little to do with compassion/a sound mental-state....

    Actually, the quality of life in Germany and throughout Western Europe is in fast decline. Heavy tax and rampant and uncontrolled immigration are tow of the many culprits. Immigration itself wouldn't be bad, but Western Europe has large immigrant population from most poor North and West African countries, the Middle East that are hostile to integration. Over taxation creates heavy burden on companies, which can't create enough jobs, which in turn raise more unemployment. Since, those Nations

    Mate i could say thousands of things, invention or whatever, from NYC, London, Paris and you can't say the fall of the Berlin wall makes it famous cus people only learn about it upon a very negative subject. Just give you a little example from London's prospective; it is the most cosmopolitan and multicultural city in the world, it is home to the most famous person in the world, it is home to inventions such as football and the television & it is the biggest tourist attraction city in the world.

    Have been to hamburg although it is a lovely city......the prettiest definitely not... Bremen and Hanover more picturesque. What Hamburg has over these other two cities in the region is the vibe of the city is fantastic whereas Bremen an Hanover feel like large towns in comparison. Hamburg is definitely worth a visit though have been there on 4 occasions and thinking of going this weekend again :D

    IMO superlatives should be banned from video titles. How can Hamburg be the most beautiful city in the world, if it is not even the most beautiful city in Germany? As an objective outsider, I think Munich is the most beautiful city in Germany, when it comes to architecture. But if I had to choose a city to live in, that would be Stuttgart! I have never seen so much green in a big city elsewhere.

    i like some of the streets i've seen, narrow yet no cars to deal with, i'd like to think that includes delivery trucks too. It looks clean, no litter, but then don't they all. People usually watch what they photograph, where the people are when taking the pictures and of coarse the weather too. It can be mostly cloudy half the time but they'll find a day when the sun is shing to make the city/weather look more appealing. Great song to go along with this video! Germany is very old world!

    @underoathuea Well, unfortunatly living here is very expensive. There aren't either enough flats nore houses to give shelter for all the people which moved to Hamburg from all over. Though if you agree to live decentralised, it's much more easy to get a flat. But on the other hand you sometimes have to drive about an hour via sub to get to the hot spots and to inner-city :(
    Best wishes from Hamburg

    @krum64 Well everyone has its own taste. I myself would prefer for example Dresden, Leipzig and Erfurt and nealry 100 or more of beautiful medieval/historic cities - and I don't mean the overgrouded touristic centres like Rothenburg, but cities like my hometown. -- If you like big multicultural cities with its global leveling of thousend cultures and very few old German traditions - Hamburg may be the best city in Germany - it has a "world city"-feeling and a great harbour. I like it not so much

    are socialist States, people are accustomed to have benefits and entitlement from the government. So, the government keeps on raising taxes to pay for those entitlement and keep raising unemployment. Europe is confronting welfare migration right now, in many countries like France and even Germany, it can be more rewarding to be unemployed than working.

    I think its kinda sad how people call germans racist because they complain about all the immigrants. Aren't americans, for example, even worse with hispanic people? It's a beautiful city but I would't go as far as to say the most beautiful city. The Gothic style architecture is an opinion that is not flattering in most countries, especially in the middle east and most parts if not all of Latin America. Plus the stigma that ww2 holds in most of USA minds and the crap that they feed us , oh well!

    Actually there are very few attractive cities in the world with skyscrapers ! Pittsburgh and London for example, Paris has skyscrapers but they are avoided by those who can afford. Tel Aviv or New York are meaningful but not beautiful. Berlin is bound to always become but it never achieved to be. I live in two castles within and next to the the German Florence and I would never ever want to change. I prefer a wooden cottage next to places to be over every penthouse in an ugly metropolitan city.

    The meaning of beauty is Hamburg. But the meaning of "even more beautiful" is Rio (in Brazil) Sorry, my german friends, but there's NO place like Rio on Earth ;-)
