Canada sells to the US iron, aluminum, lumber and crude petroleum. The US sells back to Canada cars, furnitures and refined petroleum. Mexico sells labor intensive manufactured goods and low cost food to the US. Many of those industries are owned by US companies. Who's the biggest winner from those relationships?
In the US we have alot of trees and lumber producers, that don't want Canadian lumber undercutting them. It's why we put tariffs on Candida lumber. It's a misnomer that we are buying oil from Canada. The oil that comes from Canada is tar sand oil and hard to refine. They don't have a way of refining it, so they send it through a pipeline through the US to Houston TX where 3 of our refineries are paid to refine it. Then it's loaded on tanker ships and sent to the UK and other countries. There are 610,000 barrels of this Canadian oil being sent down to Houston every day for refinement. Since we're not buying this oil, Canadian oil companies will be paying a 25% tariff on 610,000 barrels per day coming into the US. At 81 dollars a barrel which is the current price, a 25% tariff will cost Canada, 12,352,500 per day. It's actually costing the king of England, because the Monarchy owns 89% of the land and resources in Canada.
Trump's threats of blanket tariffs on Canada aren't used with a protectionist strategy. They're being used as political leverage to try to persuade Canada to secure their borders. Trump may follow through with those threats if no amicable negotiation occurs, but his aims in that case would be to pressure political reforms in Canada, not to protect American jobs. It's the same as his first term. In his first term, he made threats of blanket tariffs on Mexico and Canada of up to 25%. Result: USMCA which involved numerous mutually advantageous trade agreements between Mexico, Canada, and the US, and even Mexico agreeing to crack down on drug cartels and their own border security (including their tiny southern border neighboring Guatemala and Belize), and a Stay in Mexico policy which allowed migrants seeking to enter the US to stay in Mexico while determining eligibility rather than US detention centers. He also threatened up to 45% blanket tariffs on China in his first term (but did not impose them, and instead negotiated with Chinese leaders). Result: the Phase One Trade Agreement. Included beyond the mutual trade benefits was an agreement for China to crack down on international IP theft (China was among the worst violators in the world, and cracking down helps not only Americans but everyone else in the world to protect their intellectual property).

Tariffs are like hidden taxes on the stuff we buy. When the government adds tariffs on imports, companies pass the extra cost to us through higher prices at the store. Unlike income taxes, which depend on how much you earn (so the rich pay more), tariffs make everyone pay the same extra amount, no matter how much money they have. This hits lower- and middle-income families the hardest because they spend a bigger share of their income on everyday goods. Trump cleverly uses wording to make it sound like tariffs aren't taxes, but in reality, they quietly shift the burden onto regular people while letting him lower income taxes that mostly benefit the wealthy.

Closer economic ties between the UK and EU only ever benefit the EU. We have a trade deficit with them in goods. We are largely a service economy and the EU single market for services is small. Most services are still dealt with by national regulations not EU. Therefore Reeves cosying up is political not economic. As for Trump they have a surplus with the UK, so tariffs would achieve nothing. They have a deficit with the EU.
America use to not have an income tax and we had plenty of money. Our government is significantly more advanced than it was in the 1890s. However, there could certainly be an very valid argument for reducing taxes by simply reducing government spending / waste.
Good grief, the wording is misleading. When Trump says the US is subsidizing Canada and Mexico, what he really means is the US is importing more than they are exporting to the two countries. That is not subsizing, it is buying more than it is selling.
You have to pay to play. If you wanna sell your things in the US, the world's largest market, you're gonna have to pay us a tariff of 25%. If you don't wanna pay the tariff, then you ain't selling here. Go sell your junk elsewhere.
Yes US has unemployed 4% of working population and this number is enough to manufacture all the goods manufactured by china and exported to US even can supply to international market.
It's honestly extremely hard to know what will happen. Maybe he's lucky and in some way this works out after all. But it seems he's overestimating the importance of the U.S. to other countries.
Tariffs depends on many variables. Right now Trump wants Americans to believe China Mexico and Canada pays the freight. American billionaires pay the tax and we all know they do not like paying tax
I don’t know much about economics, but I don’t think he is going to impose these tariffs or at least he will make them such that they will be inconsequential. For example, if he imposes the tariffs there may be some sort of circumnavigation to avoid them if they are really bad, or make up an excuse to why he didn’t impose them like saying he didn’t need to do them based on some minor trade agreement (which he will say was caused by the threat of the tariffs) I bet he will do what he did when he won 2016, do nothing and just ride the economy his predecessor left for him and call it a win, tariffs were just a slogan and a flawed principle to motivate people to vote for him.
wishful thinking... almost quaint. Tarrifs will drive the dollar down and the billionaires will make a fortune on the road to becoming trillionaires by shorting on the dollar. The mother of all hidden taxes all for the benefit of the billionaires who will buy up bankrupted property. So yeah he'll put taxes down and stab Americans i the back with hidden tax. Suck it up.
Trump already served 4 years as president. He threatens blanket tariffs only as political leverage to initiate negotiations with countries he perceives as a national security threat. For example, in his first term, he made blanket threats of up to 25% on Mexican and Canadian goods. Result: USMCA which involved numerous mutually advantageous trade agreements between Mexico, Canada, and the US, and even Mexico agreeing to crack down on drug cartels and tighten their own border security (including but not limited to their tiny southern border neighboring Guatemala and Belize), and a Stay in Mexico policy which allowed migrants seeking to enter the US to stay in Mexico while determining eligibility rather than US detention centers. For China, he threatened up to a 45% blanket tariff. Result: the Phase One Trade Agreement. Included beyond the mutual trade agreements was an agreement for China to crack down on international IP theft. China was among the worst IP violators in the world, and cracking down helps not only Americans but everyone else in the world to protect their intellectual property from Chinese theft. His actual tariffs post-negotiation were modest and were even smaller than Biden's. He implemented a modest 10% tariff on aluminum, 20% on steel, 15% on solar cells, and 25% on washing machines. Biden not only kept Trump's tariffs but raised and expanded them. He imposed a 25% tariff on aluminum, 25% on steel, 25% on lithium and any electronic component made using lithium, 50% on solar cells, 50% on semiconductors, and a whopping 100% on Chinese EVs. And Biden did this without entering any serious negotiation whatsoever with the countries his much steeper tariffs impacted. On the contrary, Biden made our relationships with countries like China much worse than ever before with more trade retaliation from the Chinese without working towards an amicable agreement.
I always know that Trump has that special X factor. Those foreign Heendoo wannabe politicians stood no chance at all. Sunak, Vivik, Nimrata and now Kumala 😂

They have no idea why they even vote.
..and rarely an opinion of their own.
But my sample is only from TH-cam followers lol, and we’re all a bit mad here. 😂🤷♂️
@@ascgazz 🤣🤣🤣🤣Can you make a prediction that is based on fact or reality. You were saying Biden was great a few months ago. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
30 trillion debt 😂😂😂
Will Trump tarif US Investors to businesses working OVERSEAS?
High inflation it is 😅
This guy narcistic Trumpy is insane. Can't they do a intelligent enquiry on him.
Instead he wants us to subsidize Elon Musk
This guy doesnt know the meaning to the word subsidize? 🤣
Trump would never Tariff New Zealand beef right?
America use to not have an income tax and we had plenty of money. Our government is significantly more advanced than it was in the 1890s. However, there could certainly be an very valid argument for reducing taxes by simply reducing government spending / waste.
Good for the US, but not good for other countries, have Trump thought about this?
0:03 what did you say? French? 😂
Donald Trump says the sun revolves around the earth citing common sense proves he is right.
Exactly. And, just because I can see straight out to the Horizon, the world is flat!
Good grief, the wording is misleading. When Trump says the US is subsidizing Canada and Mexico, what he really means is the US is importing more than they are exporting to the two countries. That is not subsizing, it is buying more than it is selling.
May just order from the UK 😂😂
order what?
STOP PAYING YOUR TV LICENSE!
Your beloved Iran thanks you for your services.
You can tell that he has absolutely no idea what a tariff is.
What are all these hates speechs here ? The main reason why Donald Trump is putting tariffs on Mexico, Canada, etc ...they are not telling it !
Orange Vulgar guy again? No mas😢
He is unbelievably ignorant. Doesn't say much about those who voted for him.
Canada would join Russia first . I think America needs to be closer to Vlad.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"
Mind Begs the Question:
▪︎If a Politician claims
▪︎To be Christian/Jewish
▪︎Yet supports Usury/Interest Banking
▪︎Real or Fake?
Fake as hell
You cut the clip just before he explains how it works. Do you really think that is good journalism?
The BBC don't do journalism they do activism, Marxism and pea dough phillia
Steeeevveeeee Maaadddddeeennnn....
You have to pay to play. If you wanna sell your things in the US, the world's largest market, you're gonna have to pay us a tariff of 25%. If you don't wanna pay the tariff, then you ain't selling here. Go sell your junk elsewhere.
You need an educational resource for your own.
Haha The MAGA Movement will last for a thousand years!! Get with the program!!
😂😅
Tariffs a beautiful word? What does that mean?
We are so fucked!
They don’t pay their fair share
Elect an educated (un- educatable) individual and this is the result. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
Yes US has unemployed 4% of working population and this number is enough to manufacture all the goods manufactured by china and exported to US even can supply to international market.
Watch the economy get better. Just watch you fools.
Nope . Tariffs are paid by the country that levies them
More expensive for United States is let's China take the market
So you cut him off mid conversation. More editing by the BBC
Does he drink tea 🫖 ☕️❓️
trump is truly stupid on this tariff move
He already introduced tariffs during the last presidency. They were so successful Biden kept them and expanded some of them.
At least he is honest about the fact that he is going to profit on it…… he means him personally
Trump and Qarden Token partnership confirmed on twitter!! ICO almost sold out at $54m
I don’t know much about economics, but I don’t think he is going to impose these tariffs or at least he will make them such that they will be inconsequential. For example, if he imposes the tariffs there may be some sort of circumnavigation to avoid them if they are really bad, or make up an excuse to why he didn’t impose them like saying he didn’t need to do them based on some minor trade agreement (which he will say was caused by the threat of the tariffs)
I bet he will do what he did when he won 2016, do nothing and just ride the economy his predecessor left for him and call it a win, tariffs were just a slogan and a flawed principle to motivate people to vote for him.
wishful thinking... almost quaint.
I couldn’t understand what she said in the first few seconds, some French phrase I guess, can someone explain?
Steve Madden from the Wolf of Wallstreet.
0:43 Donald Trump‘s colonial plan revealed 😂
I always know that Trump has that special X factor. Those foreign Heendoo wannabe politicians stood no chance at all. Sunak, Vivik, Nimrata and now Kumala 😂
I find it hard to believe western medias these days🤔
