I've read this story, a big issue I personally had with it was the pacing and lack of buildup to the current conflict. Unfortunately, we as readers were kinda shotgunned through characters (Ryuzaki honestly got the best writing) and it's a shame that we don't really get much on them before things start happening.
There are a few writing flaws, but the biggest issues I had were the dialogue and the pacing. The art is incredible regardless, it's AB's biggest selling point. But to me, it feels like it's doing too much in such little time, and that just doesn't do it for me if I'm expected to care about these characters and the narrative.

I can’t say I’ve read anything from Saturday am, but I do regularly check them out and it’s so cool that it’s a company that allows people from all over the world who have admired manga and anime and if lucky enough can put it out there, but may not receive and large enough following due to not having big platforms like Shonen jump and others who are primarily Japanese and don’t really expand beyond to people overseas. But Saturday can allow this and hopefully become much bigger than they are in order to give us new media from inventive people across the world, I’d love to check them out, I like the style for their series Hammer. Btw love the gachiakuta videos domo senpai, seeing someone else with a sick vibe talking about why gachi is sick has kept me attached to your content 🤘

@pixelander I'm going to give the main three reasons why it's mediocre and doesn't work. The first reason is his main character, Sano. If you read the first chapter of "Apple Black," it doesn't feel like a first chapter at all. It feels like chapters two or three. Because the first chapter is so poorly done, we don't get to know the main character at all. Everything has to be explained to us instead of being shown through his actions and personality. This is something Wyatt fails at extremely.
If you don't believe me, let's look at the same concept with other chosen one characters. I'm going to use Aang from "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and Harry Potter from the "Harry Potter" series to make my point clearer. As an audience, the author needs us to like the main character before his importance is ever revealed to us. Even if his importance is known beforehand, the author needs to take time for us to actually see the character in his natural habitat, so we can like him.
For instance, when Aang got out of the iceberg, his character instantly became who he is. We had enough time to know who he was before his importance was made clear in the story, which made us like him. The same goes for Harry. Their characters and environments were shown to us before anything was told about them. Some exposition is good, but in "Apple Black," when it comes to Sano's personality or actions, everything is entirely exposition. That's one of the reasons it doesn't work, but there are more. However, I can't get into them in a comment. I would recommend re-reading chapter one of "Apple Black" to see what I'm talking about.
Personally, I give Apple Black ( so far ) a 8.5/10
