Argentinian here, let me explain: The first half of the season is a normal league between all the teams in the division. You face all the rivals only once and the champion is the one who scored the most points. The second half is this league cup and you face all the teams on the group you are in plus an extra game called ¨La fecha de los clasicos¨ were you face your derby rival (Boca-River; Independiente-Racing; San Lorenzo-Huracan; ect). If you dont have a derby in your division you will face another team that doesnt have one. If you are top 4 of your group you will go on to play the play-offs to become League Cup Champion. Now here is the interesting part. There is a third table called the Anual Table. All the points on the first League will be added to all the points scored on the group stage + the derby match. This will decide who goes to the libertadores. Also the last team on the anual table gets relegated, and the team with the worst average points in the last 3 season will also be relegated. If the last team on the anual table is also the worst team of the last 3 seasons then the second to last team on the anual table will join and be relegated. This is an embarrasing way to manage a season but welcome to Argentina. There some extra stuff too, like if you are the champion of the League Cup and the first team of the anual table another spot is open for Libertadores, also also, the team that is the champion of the Copa Argentina (FA Cup// Copa del Rey, but argentinian version) also gets a spot. Due to corruption and business made by the people that mange the AFA many things may be changed during the season lol. I hope everyone can understand or at least get a grip of how things work here. Im sorry if I couldnt explain myself in a correct manner. Explaining how football works in spanish is difficult enough, some things may be lost in translation.
Great work on the Pentagon Challenge Tom! 5 videos in 2 weeks, short but sweet, great editing, sharp commentary, flowing storyline. I'm happy with the series constantly getting 100k+ views! 🎉🎉
Nicely done Tom! Next challenge, is to spin a wheel every season to pick 3 nations at random, and you can only sign players that are that nationality for the year. I did it at Atletico Madrid on the beat, and it reignited my love for FM
The storyline, commentary and journey it took to finish this pentagon challenge made this series very interesting and even though I’m happy you’ve completed it, I am a bit sad it’s over.
I am a river Plate fan fron argentina, its incredible to see you play with us! Thank you! And yes “copa de la liga” counts like a league title, we have 2 champions per season
Nice one! I have to say its impressive that Defensor made all the way to the final, but River would be the obvious favorites for that one. Some ideas for the future: The pentagon challenge but spiced up (only win for teams that havent manage to win before) Win the Copa Libertadores with teams from all the countries in Comebol.
Really enjoyed the series Tom - great achievement. I did this a few years back on FM15... By the time I had won all 5 trophies, FM18 had been announced :D
I have been doing the Rainbow challenge, where you start unemployed in Britain with no badges etc, then only manage teams from the colors of the rainbow with the end game of winning the league/champions league with all the colors. Bit different but recommend
Such a great series! Love the review of key players in the challenge. It's always good to that in the final episode, feels so good in tracing the achievement we made from the view of player
Similar Challenge. Out of the 55 different leagues that can partiapte in the Champions league, how many can you make champions, starting off as an unknown manager.
As a River Plate fan (you might refer to my profile picture) this ending makes you my favourite Football Manager youtuber! Loved the whole series man, this was real fun and it inspired me to try the challenge myself!
I’ve very much enjoyed these Tom! You cruised the Libertadores it seems. Interesting that your formation adapted relatively quickly to River, and that you trusted their existing squad to deliver - and it did! I would love to see this manager try his hand at a club like Bilbao and only use youth system to win the ECL. That would be a real challenge!
You could do what I've dubbed the 'colonies revenge' challenge. You have win the premier league only using players from countries that were once part of the empire. Territories like Bermuda and Gibraltar also qualify. You could probably do this challenge in France and Spain too.
i have never looked forward to a specific day just for a video ever, until you started this pentagon challenge.... wish it was longer as it was great to watch. Very well done Tom p.s UTMI
Nice work Tom. Next challenge I’d like to see is what I tried to do a few years ago and do the UK journeyman where you start with nothing and have to win the domestic league and cup in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.
well done, good series! interesitng to see the journey you had compared to my own from last year, i also had a "moon" player i brought to 4 out of 5 teams, but it was in fm23 before the saudi madnes so he never moved for crazy money
Excellent video, loved it. I was fascinated by your Liga MX episode, I found their structure and competition interesting. Like to see some more of that; further, I’d like to see a River Plate journeyman, ARG, URA, PAR and any other RP clubs (I think there are about 7 of them, including Puerto Rico).
I had quite particular ideas for a new save/challenge with national teams - first one: bring ,for every continent, a national team that has never qualified for a World Cup and ,for a bit higher challenge, try to win it at least once - Starting from being unemployed make your climb to the top of national teams but with a twist: first win every continental cup for Under 20/under 21 (plus Olympic Games besides World Cup of category) and then make it again with senior national teams continental cups+ World Cup - The Bora Milutinovic-Carlos Alberto Pereira challenge: Milutonovic and Pereira have the record for the most national bringed to World that is 5…with all time you want and starting from zero/without anything try to break the record bringing 6 National Teams to the World Cup
Liga professional always gets interesting on FM. Athletico Tuchman In mine won 2 in a row and then sacked their manager in 2025 for being in 7th and now their in 14th
Hey dude ex semi pro footy player ( i was on fm 11) now full time musician, I watch your videos on tour all the time.. I have a challenge for you, to give a very very average youth player with little potential, THE BEST career you can give them. (Playing way too regularly for way too good of a club for their ability) My player on fm was bang average so it gave me that idea ! Keep it up mate, you’re always welcome to come a gig to
Good series of videos… whilst in the challenge did you ever think about the next step of seeing how each of your champions would do in the FIFA Club World Cup with you as manager? Out of interest when they appear in it did any win it?
Absolutely loved this series and I was eagerly waiting for a new episode! Please try to continue the same save but try to win the Euros, AFCON, Asian Cup, CONCACAF, Copa America and ultimately the World Cup. To make it even harder, try winning them with teams that haven't won the above trophies.
I can't imagine how long it took in in-game years (and real life playtime) to pull this off, but you completed the pentagon, and that's all that matters. I will be curious if you do decide to do the hexagon in FM25 with Oceania included though... It may be dominated by New Zealanders, but it's a good stepping stone to go into Africa or Asia at least. Either way, congratulations!
This series was the one that made me subscribe and officially become a fan. ❤ I'm from Romania and the first video of yours I saw was from the financial takeover series when you gave Romanian clubs a billion in TV money.
Late to the party but just want to say that I loved the presentation in this series, something that is highly underated with your videos in my opinion As for what's next - only real challenge i've even attempted personaly, aside from this one, is the San Marino challenge, little harder since the club team is gone and it's been awhile since i've read back up on it
Thoroughly enjoyed this series Tom! Since you rejected a few international jobs during the Pentagon Challenge, could an international Hexagon be on the cards with the Euros, Copa America, AFCON, Asian Cup, Gold Cup & OFC Nations Cup? And just for good measure, throw a World Cup in there too!
The rules are not that difficult. One half of the season you have a tournament that works like a league, the champions get a Libertadores spot, the other half of the season you have a sort of cup, which is that groups and playoffs thing and the final winner gets a Libertadores Spot, the other spots are given through the Overall Table, which just sums up all the points between both the League and the Cup. There's also the "Copa Argentina" which is almost the FA Cup, winner also gets a Libertadores spot.
I have really enjoyed this series of videos. An incredible project, from nothing to the top. An idea that I am trying to develop (but with my limited time and my notebook suffering with all the loaded leagues), which is to make the career of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi... backwards. To begin with, I gave them both the same age (35), because otherwise, CR7 would retire before a season. So, every year, I change their date of birth, two years more recent than the previous year (because they start at 35 years and end the season at 36). But the next season 24/25, they are 34 years old and have some slight improvement in their physique). They are already 32, Messi at Al Ittihad, Cristiano at PSG. It's very crazy, but it's cool to see his career in Benjamin Button mode.
Weird suggestion, but how about a challenge themed around financial recovery? For example, take a club with insecure finances and make them secure (or even rich). Once they are, move on to another club with insecure finances and make them secure. You can judge your overall success either by trophies won or total bank balance accrued.
Hello Tom i have one question for you, how do you send yourself on coaching course? Is it something that can only be done in Fm 24 or can it also be done in Fm23?
I really thing you should play in Brazil one day, I would love se you winning in Cruzeiro, a team which R9 bought and now are struggle to keep in the top of the league. I love your work congrats. A huge from Brazil
Cruzeiro isn't going to struggle this year, bud. I'm a Galo supporter, but I'm definitely keeping my eye on them this season. I don't think they're on our level yet, but they are much closer than they have for the last bit.
I'd like to see an even more difficult challenge: Win the top 5 leagues with only nationals in the team. So just English players for England, just italians for Seria A and so on
You’ve got to win the World Cup now. Use the same save file you have for this challenge. Maybe try to win the individual Continental Cups for International teams too.
Here's an idea I saw: try and win all the trophies available on the British Isles. So league and cup in Ireland, NI, Scotland, Wales and England. For added challenge, maybe add the vanilla leagues that aren't top flight.
Iron Island or British Steel - not sure what it is called but you have to win the top leagues in all the UK and Ireland. I think it might be even harder than the Pentagon.
Pentagon Challenge but you like nepotism. Basically you do the same thing but you have to take players from previous clubs. Every time you move clubs, you take a player with you to the next but also all the other players from all the previous clubs. These players have to start at least half the games in league and continental cup. So if you have 11 previous teams, you have a full starting line up of players from previous clubs.
If only you knew what club you passed when you saw the Athletico Paranaense job open twice for you. IRL they're an off the curve club from Brazil that rose out of nowhere in the nineties out of the vision of one of its supporters who happened to be one of the brightest business and poilitical minds of its time, some sort of south brazilian florentino perez. They even renamed the stadium after the guy while he's still alive.
you should do a pentagon challenge with the national teams now, or even make it a hexagon by winning a world cup with one of them
I approve of this message
Just what I was thinking myself.
This is a ultimate challenge
Or even winning the world cup and each of the continental international cups (Euros, AFCON etc)

Not a bad idea. Latin American players get Spanish citizenship after two years so this might be doable without Spanish-born players
The TH-camrs Clayts done a save where he dominated Spain, using only African players, which is what inspired my idea. So there is potential to do it.
