Fuck anyone who bashes and beats on FFXIII-2's story.
Freaking excuse me, I really liked it. It was about more than just some evil overlord taking over the world or someone going all crazy and / or emo, wanting to destroy everything.
The struggle in FFXIII-2 is the most personal one so far in any Final Fantasy game - the villain isn't even truly evil! It's all about the struggle between the ones wanting to save the world and the one wanting to sacrifice the world to save a friend. And it constantly has the player question "What would *_I_* do?".
Add to that how all three of them, Serah, Noel and Caius, have actual personalities, clearly think about things and follow their ideals - and what's there left to hate?
*_People just hate on this game because FFXIII was so painfully mediocre and because it's become a sort of "cool trend" to hate new Final Fantasy games,_* and behind closed doors they play the games themselves.

Caius is a great villain (since Sephiroth of FF7)! Great song and great battles against him!
They are both excellent, Sephiroth's story and theme are slightly better, but the fight against him was pathetic, almost nonexistent. Caius has a great theme, story, and fight. Honestly, their both great.

He's alive, the director said as much. Now whether it is Caius alone or just a resurrected Caius slave to the power of Chaos is another matter entirely. According to the interview on the subject his body was brought back by the Chaos of Valhalla when the worlds fused together.
the song is meant to sound pretty chaotic and melodramatic at the same time creating this "final chaotic showdown" appeal and i like that.

Barthandelus seemed like the typical sneaky politically-charged "evil" villain. Caius was anything but a typical villain. He wasn't evil at all, but was just an angry, displeased, and overall desparate man willing to do ANYTHING to help save a poor little girl with an extraordinary "gift". Not to mention that Caius was just pure badass and someone that you always enjoyed seeing on your TV screen.
The plot is not the problem with this game, the problem is it's screenplay, seriously, Noel and Serah made up mostly all of their time and space theories, and they were right in the end, same goes for Hope, it was written that way, believing it'd make them look smart, but for me it made the game look like a cheap fanfic. Caius is... clearly not that case. Everything he says is just pure epicness, god i love that character

What bothers me more is how Serah is just...a prop most of the time. I mean, she's dis-empowered most of the time, versus being impeded most of the time. The difference between disempowered and impeded in the storywriting sense is that the latter is being faced with an obstacle, the former is the inability or refusal to do anything.
I mean, in the cutscene here, she literally just falls to her knees for no reason as Caius and Noel are fighting right there. In the fight against Adam, she has to be saved by Noel in the QTs most of the time, and her main contribution is handing Noel her sword and screaming "Hope get your shit together!"
You'd think Lightning's sister would have a more proactive role, but no...
In a sense, Caius is the true protagonist of the story, because the story revolves around his actions, his decisions to save Yeul. Noel is linked to that, and so you can justify him being equally important, but what's Serah for? What major decisions does she make in a storytelling context (not QT choices)? How does her character change? She's just static, boring, and not really a good protagonist at all.
If Noel was changed to become the single protagonist, or Serah had more importance in the story, I think this could have been the best final fantasy in the series in terms of story. Sadly, it ain't.
+Lardo137 Wow, the best in story? Well now, that's a bit exagerated don't you think? xD if they had just removed Serah and made Noel the protagonist from the very begining, it'd have been great. Think about it, another game in the fabula nova crystallis, it wouldn't have been much of a problem to use the same world and timeline. Anyway, don't get me wrong, i love Caius, but he isn't much of an innovation, he has great lines and backstory, but aside from that, he is a living stereotype, far from the best in the series, just look at Kefka.

In the extra gameplay "Soul of Rebirth", he conquers heaven too....but was defeated by the people who had already died the game. Still an achievement though.
Well, Caius WAS designed by Tetsuya Nomura and that seems to be the style Nomura aims for lately.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is the final piece of the story in Lightning's arc; and Caius Ballad will be coming back in that game.
Caius, Noel, and Yeul are my favorite FF13 saga characters. I feel like there's something wrong with that. I also really love Hope and Snow, though.

Yeah, Caius strings ultimate attacks together. It's like if Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2 used Supernova, Big Bang, Apocalypse, and then while you're still taking damage started the summon animation for Bahamut or the animation for Heartless Angel.
My favorites are Caius, Snow, and Fang(some what because of bahamat tho)

FF13-2 can have the most nonsensical plot in FF history. It can screw up everything good about the characters in 13. But it still has the best battle system in the FF series, some of the best music, and I STILL GET GOOSEBUMPS WHEN CAIUS HAS HIS MONOLOGUE ABOUT THE "YEUL THAT LOVED TO SING!"
Talking about their individualities put some cosmic horror perspective on what Caius had to go through. I mean, he literally waited until the end of time.
Only character i think was shit in XIII-2 was Snow, and i would like it more if Vannile and Fang didn't even appear in the game and Sazh had more interactions with Noel and Serah before the final battle, also, why the heck did he brought his kid to a battle zone? Just leave him somewhere safe, i'm pretty sure Sazh met other people that he can trust by now.

what caius is actually trying to accomplish is to kill the goddess without him dying and creating a new world without etro in his way. true that if caius is killed etro is killed but the way he caius says things is all part of his plan to bring to the conclusion that he wanted noel to die. the caius that was killed by noel is the real one but remember, he said that he will create an eternal paradox and what he said was true as seen in the secret ending. therefore he lives and etro dies
unlike other villains, he did not babble on about his master plan. How do you defeat an enemy that has seen history itself, including its many possibilities? Lightning turning into crystal stasis to preserve Sera memory, and waking up in another time? I wounder what she will find, and i wounder how Snow feels that his fiance if dead. I hope they continue the story and not leave it behind like dirge of Cerberus with Genesis secret ending, and ff9 with Necron.

It IS the second game. That's like saying DMC3 was a spin-off because it was a prequel. Not only that, but Duodecim has a scenario before, during AND AFTER the events of the first game. It IS in all intents and purposes, Dissidia 2.

My theory so far is that having no future and no death or life means stagnation, which appears to be the case for the new setting. I'm more interested in what Caius is doing now that his master plan has been completed.

And you have to symphatize with Caius a little even if he went to an extreme. Etro doomed a poor girl's soul to eternal torment and constant death (and his soul for that matter) because she decided to break her own rule and tamper with Cocoon's fate. It's funny because all along FFXIII-2 you're led to believe Caius changed the true timeline but all along it was Etro who changed it and in the true timeline your heroes where going to die. It's a pretty grim plot so far.
When i learned that i started to look at Caius as the good guy and that we were playing as the unintentional time interlopers. Noah and Sarah legitimately thought they were in the right when they weren't.

that's just it, caius isn't evil, he felt that in destroying time and returning everything to valhalla, he could save yuel.
his resolve was very real, but evil, nah.
and apparently his master plan of destroying time had no real ramifications outside of rendering humanity timeless, they would not have a history, nor would they be allowed a future, they would simply be.
i can't even fathom how that works, but erasing time isn't the same as erasing existence, so it's all good!

Exdeath= Wanted to gain control of the void. Consumed by his own power and became Neo-Exdeath...then killed (or met an unfortunate fate early to a cannoneer, those who knew the trick shoudl get this right away)
Kefka= Successfully destroyed the world and ruled over it...but was still killed by the heroes (why he didn't just use the light of judgement on them as soon as he noticed their presence is BEYOND me.)

Actually, there was someone else before Bhunivelze: His mother Minwe. He killed her and now is on the other side of the door of souls. He followed her there to try and keep her from doing anything. That is the real reason he did not give Etro any true focus to perform, since Etro looked like Minwe. Therefore, the whole mess with Etro was stemmed from this.
Im really starting to wonder where Caius will end up in FF Lightings Return for everyone who got every fragment you know Caius is still alive and well at the end of FFXIII-2 and I doubt someone as smart as him would just die of old age even if he lost "The Heart Of Chaos" I hope he comes back.
Necron was not an "unfinished" sequel hook. His existence and the reason for his appearance has been explained pretty thoroughly since FFIX came out. Necron was always there, as an impartial "zero" entity. Kuja summoned him by coming into contact with the Crystal, his despair and hatred convincing Necron that humanity wanted to return to nothingness.

I'm not denying the fact that Caius was an extremely emotive antagonist, however I do feel that Barthandelus suited as the central villain in XIII, due to its nature and mood. Barthandelus and Orphan were essentially the embodiment of 'fate', and thus I do not think they needed to be multi-faceted characters. Besides, I find it rather neat how Barthandelus strung the main characters along to commit an act that he as a fal'Cie was incapable of doing.
Good point, but then again, once 6's heroes got rebanded and got their act together after the doomed first half, all they had to do was march up to the villain's lair and kick his ass. Caius on the other hand, isn't going to go down easily any time soon, seeing as he literally knows everything.
One thing everyone should be able to agree on: XIII-2 had a great enemy. Caius he had a purpose and I will be soooo very sad if he doesn't reappear in the next game its doesn't seem right for someone who knows every stretch of time just to die I would love to see him return in dissidia or any other FF.

that's something that id like to know, if he can so the future, why did he assume earlier that lightning is dead? good point, but thats caius's assumption. eventually as seen in the secret ending of the game, as you know, caius is still alive creating a new world while in the dlc ending, lightning awakes again in the dying world. that leaves many questions unanswered.
from what info has been released about Lightning Returns, it seems humanity has suffered a slow decay and the modern, high technology of the first two games is lost.

Garland= Becomes Chaos and send 4 achfiends to the past to ensure his future and darkness. He fails.
Mateus= Dies in real life, but becomes King of Hell and his "good" side becomes ruler of heaven. both killed by main characters and characters that died already.
Xande= Wanted to freeze time and destroy the crystals for immortality...underly fail.
Golbez= Was controlled the ENTIRE TIME. :(
Don't worry. They said at the end of the game " to or be continued". I don't think that Square Enix will that Serah and Lightning died, they will make it so that the sisters came back alive

I did it with a Bunkerbeast. I kind of said "screw it" at the end and just opened up my Paradigms with every possible role - COM/COM/SEN, RAV/RAV/SEN, MED/MED/SEN... then I realized that wasn't working, so I looked up SAB/RAV/MED and I think I might have beat him that time.

Yes at a special anniversary event..3 was inevitable. This game is the only one that ctrosses xbox & PS3 and also there is still MIA Versus. If they started a whole new series world/characters it be 4-6 yrs to develop. So thats why 3 is coming.

Dissidia 012 is, for all intents and purposes, Dissidia 2. Hell, most of my uploads are based on Dissidia 012, so this stuff is obvious to me, lol.
Snow is my favorite character and I think Caius is my favorite antagonist from the series, second maybe to Sephiroth or Beatrix. Though that's biased since I haven't played most of the earlier games.
Yeah, it is a very subjective word. In my case I just use it to describe characters with traits that were extremely prevalent in the era. Basically what I mean is that they're nothing you haven't seen before if you've played RPG's from the NES/SNES. It's understandable if you stop and take in the time they were made in, times where just having an antagonist with some kind of complex goal was already a huge step forward.
Bhunivelze is the being who created the gods pulse and etro. Bhunivelze is the ultimate badass, and the most powerful being to ever exist. Bhunivelze was the first thing, like god being first in the bible.
Well according to Degenki, he is the most powerful arch-nemesis up to date. Better than Kefka, better than Sephiroth, everyone.
i think lightning in valhalla was an unforseen variable in his plans. yes he could see all the futures but valhalla is a middle point where there is not future or past and time doesnt exist. Caius knew what would happen but couldnt see beyond valhalla fusing into the world because of this so basically lightning waking in the future is beyond his sight because of the time paradox that is valhalla. this is my assumption
I'll wait for the reviews. I liked XIII-2... but luckily, I bought it RIGHT when the sequel was announced... then I had the part about Serah dying and "the bad guy winning" spoiled, so I sort of knew most of the loose ends weren't going to be wrapped up. The games are fun, but it feels like they devolve. In the first game we had three players, in the second only Serah & Noel, and now apparently only Light's playable.
I'm a little sick of her being "the badass with magical sponsorship".
