Horse Riding Fun exercises you can do in your next horse riding session. This is called the "Clover leaf" pattern and requires only 4 trot poles. Set them up in a star shape or spokes of a wheel and ride straight, circle, ride straight, circle, straight over the next trot pole. Easy to set up maybe not so easy to do.
The benefits of using this horse riding exercise is to:
improve horse suppeness because they will have to circle, bend then go straight, the bend and go straight so it helps to develop suppleness.
improve balance because they are turning then straightening.
strengthen the horse. Because they are turning and trotting over a pole is helps to develop the muscles horses need for basic dressage and jumping.
improve PROPRIOCEPTION - that's a big word for teaching the horse where their limbs are.
For the rider:
Improves planning - how to reach the pole correctly and in stride,
Improves preparation - bending straightening and riding to arrive at the pole at the correct place.
Improves balance because you are turning and straightening with subtle changes in balance
