      View only. You cant move the mouse. One more reason it seems like a kinda odd not so powerfull hacking device O_o. Taking control of the data lines would be 1000x more powerfull. Why have they not begun selling such a hacking router to MITM the LAN network yet? Too powerfull I think, big daddy USA wont let them I think. They must have been given a warning not to make more serious hacking stuff.

    • @Sizzlik
      @Sizzlik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      same..i dont get the point of it..or how its actually useable. I think the idea is to put the implant on the victim..and have a 24h mini attack box running on that pc. But all that can be achieved without physical engagement...most of the ime its even easier to get a reverse shell on a pc then it is to install an implant on the hardware...and hope that your 50-100$ toy wont get found.

    Hey Darren & Shannon! So much thanks to you pros for providing me with the tech knowledge and resources I needed to kick of a new career in i.t. pentesting. I am slowly gathering the tools I will need while continuing my education. Well on my way to Network+ and celebrating some new Google Certifications. I thought...what better way to celebrate than to beg for a Hak5 starter kit! Going for a few more certs before getting into the workforce. Any chance of being a lucky recipient of this killer gear? Maybe some stickers for my Hak Bus? I even have my old timer dad that works in i.t watching and talking about your tools. Either way, the knowledge is priceless so THANK YOU! Please keep up the great work!

    very intrigued by the screen crab and the potential applications for audio video! A couple questions: What is the delay? Can you send a still screen grab to the output (essentially freeze screen)?

    • @andrewlogan5462
      @andrewlogan5462 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess after reading a little further that it is splitting the input to achieve 0 lag, but no control over the output.

    Screen Crab can do a lot more, from monitoring what your kid is watching tv or pc over a distance with network to security monitoring system. I was wondering if I could use this in industrial application such monitoring a machine operation at a over long distance with network while operators operate machines, modern machine are working with pc and has touch screen monitor connected but I doubt HDMI connections is proprietary connector for industry.

    • @DarrenKitchen
      @DarrenKitchen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - there's likely a lot of interesting applications like this - and as for vga/dvi/display port/etc - they're mostly all adaptable to a HDMI

  • @nikize
    @nikize 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So HDMI capture, with Wired LAN - and also support for HID device emulation, - and we would have an awesome network KVM...
    So my question is, what is the internals of the Screen Crab - could it be used as a base for an open source LAN KVM. Add support for 2 gig LAN ports and ability to capture network (and inject) as well and we would be set for a great remote debugging device as well.

      Thinking naively* (i.e., I actually don't know so hope someone explains why my idea is naive / wouldn't work), it seems like this could be mitigated by internally wiring it in parallel, while boosting the original against loss. (* naive, because the video indicates MiTM while my idea isn't)

    You should add a USB port to the screen crab to log keyboard input as well. Then keyboard input could be logged. Ya ya I know we could see what is typed on the video or images, but we can not see passwords and a key logger would perfect this device.

    Question: I am a firewall/LAN pentester that looks for firmware and OS's vulnerabilities to patch, which I 100% understand why it needs to be done. But why install a device to capture HDMI video, what are you trying to proof to the client, is it a case of "look, I had access to a computer or your board-room projector and your building was physically insecure and therefor I was able to "plant" this device? I even understand the need for a rubber ducky, but what on earth is infernal IT going to proof by planting anything "inline" from a network cable or an HDMI cable?

    • @TheFinalMB
      @TheFinalMB 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Solace it’s a good way to say “look at all the sensitive corporate data I gleaned from your projector that could be worth billions” for the people who maybe don’t understand “yep I got root on your server and exfiltrated all your data”. The old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” holds very true when talking about people and their technical barriers.
      The other part of it considering its an easy to use inline device in a pentest situation is that it’s literally plug and play, showing that anyone could walk in and install it with next to 0 tech knowledge could break through preconceptions of management who might still think that ‘hacking’ is only for technodweebs, wizkids and highly trained spies. Bringing it down to a level where they could use the device themselves and see how easy it is might convince them to splash out a bit more for decent cyber security measures.
      Also, in the rare case that you stumble onto some backwards company whose not networked and uses dvds to do presentations, this could sit between the DVD player and the tv and exfil data that way. I dunno what kinda company that would be but hey, people still run vista in corporate environments so anything’s possible.

    the Screencrab can stream the HDMI signal, but what if the content is protected by DRM, like if the victim started watching a movie? Surely you can't legally sell a device with the HDCP master key, even if it is available online.
