I thought of this with EMG signals, but using EEG signals is incredible. This is quite frightening though. This not that new either, but imagine what our government is doing in the US and other countries with this technology.

What i don't understand is how you prevent random thoughts from changing your intended mind commands. Thoughts are not as stable as the motor input you give. Eg: typing on a keyboard. Maybe it takes some training to make this thing work. Also what if different people's brain generate different thoughts for the same command. Then each person would need his own thought-command mappings. I thought the controls were supposed to be universal, operatable by any human with minimum training. Or maybe i don't know much about this.

It is not applicable as of now because we cannot keep our mind silent. If we train our mind, then it's easy to map commands to the application and use it to control things in real life.

@@samuelanthonio2527 we would be able to make a device that will transmit what I want to tell you to your headset but we will still need to output the audio to you, since this is a non invasive setup (no surgeries) we cannot just input voice to your brain, the closest bet is a speaker that uses bone conduction...

People are finally figuring that the secret version is there, and its about 50 years ahead of its time. They can read everyones memories remotely in same way like people can watch videos from computer among more advanced features.
… No, they cannot read your mind at a distance. I actually do machine learning research in this space and can confidently say broadly applicable BCIs - like home automation, usable thought to text, robotics controls, etc - are still years away. It’s certainly coming faster than most people think but there are still massive hurdles that need to be overcome. The tests you see now are all done under carefully constructed lab conditions and often times take dozens of hours of data collection from a patient in order to create working controls for them.
The largest problem we face is that all brains are different and even the same brain operates differently on a daily basis. Without collecting data from a patient for a number of days under different mental loads the entire thing falls apart. Likewise data collected from one patient is only so helpful in building a model that works with someone else. We are slowly moving in the direction of a more generalized model but even for simple tasks like moving the cubes on a screen or moving a robot forwards it can take an hour+ of instruction.
To your point on the classified versions of these systems. From what I understand they’re doing data collection on soldiers via EEG arrays in their helmets but are mostly researching this in context of health and optimization. They’re currently also training soldiers on Microsoft’s HoloLens and are looking to get integrated BCI systems for the soldiers that way.
The best way to think about this is they’re essentially creating a HUD for the soldiers that integrates BCI to allow soldiers to perform a range of functions without having to access and physically use various devices.
Also, as an aside, why would the government even need to invest in remote ‘mindreading’ when it’s been found that using a persons data to construct a behavioral model of them is extremely accurate at predicting behavior?
