A critical component of the Finance Transformation Roadmap is the Project Baseline, which is the documented starting point of the Project. The Baseline will include People, Process and Technology and is not just just a Headcount assessment. It should take a Business wide view as appropriate and not view Finance in isolation.
The objective is to ensure that all factors which can influence the success of your Finance Transformation program are documented, with rigorous due diligence, right at the start.
Your approach should be grounded in numbers and reinforced with key stakeholder interviews to establish the validity of the Project Exam Question. The Exam Question is they 'why' - why are we doing this which must be universally accepted at C Suite level.
Michael explores the critical relationship between Organisation Design and Process Analysis which is inextricably linked in order to Baseline your Project effectively and lay the foundations for transforming Finance successfully.
Despite Finance Transformation trends toward performing Process Analysis and Mapping with software tools Michael feels this is inadequate and misses a vital learning opportunity for all staff who will be impacted by the Finance transformation program.
His strong advice is always to start from the Organisation design before approaching Process analysis and he explains why within. This he refers to as the Process Analysis Paradox.
