The 2010 Chargers at least deserve a shoutout. They had the best offense and defense in the league. But lost out on a wild card berth to a mediocre Chiefs side because the Chargers also had the worst special teams in the league. I kid you not, nine months after their last game of the season, Rivers' wife gave birth to their sixth child. lmao

2018 Steelers season hurt too, Chargers were gifted 2 TD's on entirely illegal plays, then saved on a missed FG when the first time Steelers weren't actually offsides (they were the next 2 out of desperation, but ball was clearly in motion on the first).
Then the Raiders game was Tomlin's fault, Ben was injured earlier, but was able to come back, and Tomlin held him out until they lost the lead, he stepped right in and took it back, but it was too late, and the Raiders score again and close it out. Hurt them again in the Saints game when he failed to challenge an obvious fumble, and then went for it on 4th with a lead. When Tomlin is on, he's great, but he's prone to terrible decisions.
Plus there was the abysmal PI in the Saints game that completely swung momentum, Saints were stopped on a 4th down and refs gave them a 1st at the goal line for clearly incidental contact. Honestly, it's why I couldn't help but laugh a little (only a little, because refs still have too much power) with the no call later in the season against the Rams, bad call cost the Steelers their season, bad no call cost the Saints theirs.
And then, at the end, to top it all off...the Ravens had a fumble against the Browns that would have been returned for a TD, costing them the game and cinch it for the Steelers...and, guess who, refs blow it dead and save their season.

      @sawyertuide7636 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

If it was new format and there was a 7th seed, their fate would be heartbreaking loss vs Indy and Peyton.
Had they made it with the old format, being honest, they probably get by the David Garrard Jags in a great wild card game.
But they lose to New England in heartbreaking fashion. Why do I say heartbreaking in both scenarios? That team was too damn good to be handled easily. It’d be similar to the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
2007 was a good year for Cleveland sports. The Browns having their best season, the Cavs making the finals with Bron, and the Indians coming one game away from the World Series.

!00% trure! Only two NFL teams have ever missed the playoffs with an 11 - 5 record. Though they weren't included in this list because that was back in 1985 under a different playoff format. This list only included the 2002-2019 seasons under the current (soon to be replaced) playoff system. It's even in the title of the video. 😁

Interesting to note in early 70s the NFL rotated home games in the playoffs based on division rotation every year, NOT based on seeding (which obviously makes more sense to use seeding for homefield). If any other team ever completes a perfect season, the '72 Dolphins will still have a unique distinction of actually having to go on the road @ Pittsburgh for the AFC Championship despite being undefeated.

This list is moot without the 2015 Lions. They finished 8-8 while the 9-7 Seahawks and Packers were the wild card teams. However, this was also the year that the Lions were screwed out of a win against the Seahawks (end zone bat) and Packers (phantom facemask lead to Hail Mary). Give those wins to the Lions, they're 10-6, while the Pack and Hags each fall to 8-8. But the Lions always get screwed.

If you do the math, the entire premise is flawed.
    32 teams in NFL
    16 per conference
6 from each conference make playoffs...
3/8 or 37.5% of the top teams in each conference make the playoffs.
Basically these teams couldn't make the top 40% in their conference all season long to make the playoffs but suddenly they could have become Super Bowl contenders???? 🤣🤣🤣

I know you didnt go past 2002, but 1991 49ers were 10-6, first year with Young as a starter. Watters was out for the season. Then 2005 Chargers.

The Patriots didn't regress with Brady in 2009. The team was just worse. A lot of players from the 07 and 08 years were gone in 09. Bruschi gone, Seymour gone, Asante Samuel gone, Welker missed some games, some change on the O-line, and then Brady coming off an ACL and MCL tear. If Cassel would have had to play in 09 rather than 08 which had a stacked team that went 16-0 in 07, then the Patriots would have struggled mightily and would likely have been 6-10 at best.

What about the 2010 Chargers? Best offense with best defense barely misses the playoffs due to special teams gaffes? They would've been the AFC's 7 seed and possibly could've won the Super Bowl, had they gotten in. A win in week 17 would mean they would've won the AFC west via tiebreaker, per SB nation's Dorktown.
