I feel ur pain. I had my period for 4 months straight and It was really heavy and I had a really really terrible headache. I ended up going to the hospital and found out I had anemia because of the blood loss and I had menorrhagia.
when I first got my period I was 12 and I was at my grandma’s house, so I called my mom, she was with my aunt in the car and she put it on speaker and they both started to scream “SHES GOT HER PERIOD, SHES GOT HER PERIOD” and I was like “DONT TELL ANYONE”, then 5min after that my grandma came to me and she was “so u want tampons”. The next day, I woke up and went to the kitchen and the maid started to give me period advice, my cousin later came to my grandmas house and she was like “so u got your period”.
For the next few months whenever we would meet any of my mom’s friends she’d be like “hi oh did u know my daughter has gotten her period”. It was an embarrassing year.

My mom was also against the “American Girl” book that showed how to insert a tampon. My mom actually ripped the pages angrily and said it how inappropriate that book was. I was so upset because all I could think about was how she ripped my book. I was 12 and I was huge book worm and couldn’t believe she ripped it.

Tbh india is changing now. It's not so weird to be public about your periods anymore and women are doing things on the daily...but that being said it's mostly only in the really uptown cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore etc. Villages still hold onto their traditions and periods are a taboo and the girl is 'unclean'. It bothers me so much that getting your period means you're a 'woman' now and in india they have like a big function where the invite all the guests to celebrate on your becoming of a woman so then it can be public and that's okay but then after that, it's like your existence needs to be hidden when it's that time of the month and it's honestly so discouraging. I've never had to go through that to that extent but my parents are still Indian so my period was a secret for almost a year until I finally went to boarding school and had to stock up on pads...
I think such period taboos are associated with some specific religion... I'm a Christian... And I live in a rural area... In South India.. And there are no such absurdities like "polluting " and stuff here... But India is changing...and I'm sure that such insane concepts will meet their end soon!

I’m grateful I’m was in a all girls asian school for 10 years. It taught me self confidence about my periods as all of us had them and tried to help each other when their time came.

I got my first period back in may of sixth grade. I woke up to awful cramps and woke my mom up and she was like “try to use the bathroom” so I did and I noticed I had started, so I told my mom and she gave me a pad and I went back to sleep. The next day at school I told all my friends and made sure that they knew... it was super light and only lasted one day but tbh i was so excited

Here in Philippines when youre in your period you just straight up tell your girl friends so they would understand that you dont want to walk too much or youre not in the mood for anything. Like when my friends asks me to hang out when its break time, I'll straight up tell them "Oh sorry I have mine today...i don't really want to".
I just turned 13 not to long ago and I got my period 3-4 years ago. I've openly talked about it to basically anybody even my guy friends, dad, ect. It never crossed my mind that people are insecure about having there period cause at school we were taught how it was natural and perfectly normal. And home they were very blunt.

When I am on my period and someone ask me, how I'm doing or how I feel, and I feel bad (because of the pain, discomfort etc), I will tell them that. Some people are a surprised and you can see that this is an uncomfortable topic for them, but it is so natural
I was almost a month away from my 12th birthday. My mom almost cried because she thought I was so small. She gave me a pad and never really told me when to change it or that I could leak or how often I would have my period, or how long. She once opened the door on me when I was in the bathroom and told me that I couldn’t stay in there. I thought I could just expel all my blood in one go. Boy was I in for a surprise. I also was never allowed to use a tampon because of the virginity thing. My mom warned me that the school nurse would probably make me wear one but they had pads too. We never talked about periods so I took it upon myself to learn from books. I’m 31 and barely getting a regular period and comfortable with it (as much as you can get with periods).
Also, my family knows when I’m on my period because I get really quiet and kinda nice for a change. 🤣🤣🤣

I recently learned what is cramps. I never had painful periods until 2 months ago. It happened the 1st day of that period week, I was in 3rd hr History class and I felt like dying. The second time, well last week, it happened again on the 1st day. I have huge respects for women, we go through this sh** every month.
I remember when I got my period for the first time I was taking the Writing STAAR test in 7th grade for the first time. (Anyone from Texas knows this test). And I remember going to the bathroom, and I was WEARING TIGHTS. And all of a sudden I see blood. I thought I cut myself and I wanted to call my mom but I couldn’t because it was STAAR testing day. So yeah that’s my story. Lol

My parents never talked to me about my period. Instead my mom gave me an American Girl book (probably the same one that one woman was talking about). That’s really where I learned about everything I know about puberty. I still have to change my pads and tampons in my mom’s bathroom, and we keep the supplies in a decorative box. I really wish periods weren’t so taboo.
