Doesn't look like an 'Original'. Original had a belt drive from engine down to clutch pulley. Also, 'Original' mower deck was rectangular and had two overlapping blades that were driven by a timing belt. Transmission and rear were exposed, not covered. Grill on original was vertical not slanted. What you have looks like a model 70.

Mine looks like the exact grill and other features from this video about Cub Cadet "Original" history-same fenders, hood "ornament" -deck lowering arm. I'll have to look into it more. It does have a belt drive off the front of the engine down to a clutch pulley also ..

The original had transmission from the Farmall model C, Cub tractor. A reduction gear housing was installed on the front of the transmission and the frame going forward was bolted to the reduction gear housing leaving the reduction gear housing and transaxle exposed. The serial number would be found stamped in the right side of the transmission near the filler plug. Yours probably has the serial number on a tag on the back left of the rear end. You should be able to find year of manufacture by searching the serial number. Again, the mower deck on the original was rectangular in shape with two blades timed 90 degrees apart through the use of a timing belt. The deck was engaged by a foot pedal on the right side of the deck. The triangular shaped deck was a later development. The hood ornament on the original models which were built from 1961 through 1963 was larger then yours and extended past the front of the hood. The original models had the engine mounted on top of the frame and the newer models had the engine nestled down inside of the frame eliminating the need for the drive belt from the engine to the clutch. The original models did not have a PTO clutch on the front of the engine with the engaging lever on the right side of the console.. th-cam.com/video/bi2WRYInusQ/w-d-xo.html

Just so you know, I'm 81 years old and grew up with these Cub Cadets. If you look closely at the grilles pictures of the original you will see that the grille screen on the real original goes all the way from the bottom of the grille housing to the top. Yours goes up about 3/4 of the way and above the screen is a flat panel with a big IH on it. That panel comes with holes in it as part of the headlight optional feature. The original used side mounted lights that were actually from the Farmall tractors also made by IH. A friend of mine in high school worked part time for the local IH dealer and finished the assembly of the originals which were shipped on a pallet with the seat, seat mounting bracket and tires and optional features not installed.@@ProlificInvention
