So fun to see you and Daniel share your work. Thanks for the link for the nun stitch - I’m off to take a look at how that’s done as I’ve never heard of it before.
I can hardly imagine anything better than starting the day with a nice cup of coffee and this wonderful video. You and Daniel really are a great team and it is a great pleasure to see you. And what a beautiful project! Magical❤️
What a joy to see Daniel again! And I am beyond excited to see this is a reoccurring series with him, he’s always a delight. I’ve never considered doing smalls because the finishing seemed difficult. But with your videos, TH-cam links, this seems doable. Can’t wait to start!
Uh-oh...I love JDD (remember, I worked in her office in the early days -- paperwork, tax work, editting magazine articles...and convinced her to quit her day job)...and I've collected far more of her patterns than I've actually stitched! But...this. Oh, this! I'm spending my kids' inheritance... And from the photos, doesn't "nun stitch" look like blanket stitch? I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I need a scissor holder! Thanks for a great video. Looking for more in the series!
I’ve completed one of the spool designs but not the design that fits my spool. I will probably finish it into a needle book. I got the scissors holder spool as I have way too many tree ornaments. BTW I love the floss folio. I don’t lose my needles as often as I used to. They stay put instead of sliding off the table. Hi to Daniel.
It seems that nearly all the stitching videos on TH-cam are about stitching on tiny-stitch fabrics. I can only stitch on 14/16 count Aida, so I am apparently out-of-the-loop of the stitching community.
Well sure - this one is, because that's what was designed to fit on these spools. If you check out our Between Two WIPs episode #28 on this channel - I did a Modern Folk Embroidery piece "Darling Starling" on a hot pink 14 count aida and it was glorious if I do say so myself. I have some GORGEOUS Roxy Floss Co 14 count Candy Apple fabric that I plan to stitch the Satsuma Nutcracker stocking on (based on a customer request that I just fell in love with) I stitch on anything and everything depending on what I want my finish to look like - the fabric is just a tool. I would never want a stitcher to feel excluded based on the materials they are using.
You can still stitch the spools pattern on Aida. Just use an 18 ct or a 20 ct, as this will come out the same size a a 36 ct or a 40 ct. You'll be surprised how easy the size difference is from 14 or 16 ct. It just takes a wee bit of adjustment but you get used to the size difference quite quickly. Also, because these are such small designs, the investment to try a smaller Aida count isn't huge, so it's worth the try. Just have fun and give it a whirl. I hope you enjoy your stitching and please don't feel excluded. The worst that can happen is that you won't like it, and then you can happily go back to 14 or 16 ct which is just as lovely as any other fabric.
Most patterns can be adjusted to fit any size finish that you want. I almost always adjust a pattern to fit how I want to do a finish and that is what’s so amazing about cross stitch. IMHO - Caroline and Daniel are just giving us all an example of what they have made and giving us creative license to make them into what ever we want. There are many spools available in Antique stores and on-line (Etsy) so they will fit about any size fabric that you need. I hope you stitch this in Aida as I would love to see what it looks like in that cloth and count. 🤗 ❤️
Yes absolutely- we don’t have them listed separately yet but if you send an email to hannah@evertote.ca she can set that up for you and add the listing in the shop as well. Thank you for asking!
I can’t wait to see the finishes. Daniel is absolutely adorable.
Super cute! Love seeing you Jeanette! And love the way Daniel and Caroline worked out which fabric to work with!
