  • While the Capital One building is the most recognizable on the Lake Charles skyline, it's a small part of the vast amount of damage left behind.

Capital One apparently didn't spend their money wisely in 2007 after the big post Rita rebuild. They'll have a 3rd shot at this as the population of Louisiana continues to explode higher. Nasty inflation down there but almost all due to a total lack of building codes.

There's a sound for a writer to describe in their post apocalyptical stories. The tinkling sound of metal blinds nearly, but not completely, torn from their bindings to clink together by the dozen, sounding less like wind chimes, and more like leaves rustling in a tree only with a metallic tinge.

antonio de la fuente Relax. They even showed on the precipitation radar that we weren't getting any rain so this is mainly a LA problem. And Ike did something like that to the buildings downtown. Not to that degree but I was there to remember it. So, that kinda of damage doesn't look to fake to me...I mean it's there. And you're really underestimating what a Cat 4 can do when it's going that fast. Remember Harvey? Wasn't that long ago. You're stating you're from Houston and you act like you've never experienced a hurricane before. You think these people are capable of drowning an entire city underwater? Good luck trying to tell people that cause last time I checked, the weather's only in god's control. Kinda tired of seeing people like you. I'm not even old enough to vote yet so I really don't care...

It's always been a facade. De Tocqueville's selections from Democracy and America in the early 1800s, wrote how Americans wanted to mimic aesthetics from Europe but did not want to pay the price. So stone columns became wooden columns painted to look like stone, stone facades dropped over wooden walls to give the appearance of wealth and power that their former nations (England, et all) had painstakingly built over generations. We've always been a nation of facades.

@Jake, Didn’t mean any disrespect, just can’t understand why people are allowed to build buildings with a lot of glass that can’t withstand strong winds. I would think long skinny windows would be better than large plate glass windows. Believe me, I really feel sorry for all who have businesses and homes destroyed.

Now you are older and without the story, you still make your home from twigs and sticks in a hurricane zone. Muhhahaha. Thank you builders for showing us on many levels, how stupid we are.

I was like 12 or something when we never had modern technology. There used to be a circuit city here too until it was sold out by some prick face.
