    That motivation. Love it.
    "Because I love being rejected." I actually found that pretty funny. xD

    1:31-1:43 Is it really weird that that was one of the most encouraging things I've ever heard about voice acting? :P

      Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else is searching for voice over translation jobs try Ailyahwan Easy Dominator (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.

    I work as a temp in a hospital doing dishes. I lost sight of my chosen profession which is to voice. But I said to myself, no, don't give up! You're doing this to go back to school which this job handles when perm hired. Then you can refine your abilities and then audition to become the goal you want. Then I saw this vid and now I'm super pumped to keep going and work my ass off, and my voice, to get where I wanna be. Thank you very much!! I kiss your face, lol. Nah :) XD

    This video was oddly intimidating. By the end of it all I had to say was a meek, "Y-yes, sir," and then off I shot like a bolt of lightning.
    I'm loving this series. Great insight and tips along with a healthy dose of humor.

    Hey man, I just got accepted to work on voice bunny. Do you have any experience with that site?

    • @Laphin
      @Laphin  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I have used Voice Bunny many times. They are an okay resource for work. I've made around $400 on just one project alone once, and then another $350 one from a cool toy company. You just have to set your prices professional, and keep a good track record. (You might have to start off kinda low until you build a portfolio and a little rep first).

  • @JudithBarbosa
    @JudithBarbosa 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Thanks for the input, you bring up some solid points that slip by a lot of people, but here's my question:
    WHERE do you audition? The only site I know that posts voice acting jobs is Voices.com - should I pay for a profile on there?

    • @Laphin
      @Laphin  8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Judith Barbosa No, don't start there. Voices.com and Voice123 should only be considered an option when you are GOOD, because if you get on there without being a solid professional, then you won't grab any jobs (at least for a nice profit). There are a lot of top talent on those sites, but if you think you sound fantastic, and you have some AMAZING DEMOS THAT ROCK. Then go for it!! In the mean time a good place to start is on Upwork.com and freelance places where you can at least start to build a portfolio of work. You'll learn how to make mistakes and also how to work and get clients by using freelance sites starting off. LOG ALL YOUR CLIENTS into a mailing list and never forget they exist, because they WILL forget about you. Use gmail GROUP LIST or something cloud based so it's easy to manage. But, have all the clients you work with in one place so that way you can 'group' e-mail all of them at least once a month to remind them that you still exist, it will refresh their mind that you are a dependable talent! If you don't do this, you'll be struggling for work constantly.

    Wow... this really put things in perspective for me. Not sure if all this info is legit but I guess I'll find out eventually. Good thing i have a some experience in sound editing from way back!!

    • @Laphin
      @Laphin  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Shawnti... as a working voice talent on all mediums. It is definitely legit. I work for many clients that do not know much in the way of compression and equalization, so once you grasp YOURSELF on what a commercial should sound like or what puts that 'sparkle' in your own sound, it helps in knowing how to add that yourself. That way when you DO audition, you already sound good... and if the client wants adjustments, you then know how to correct it, because a lot of the times, they just can't do it... they take what sounds good and if you are on top of that, it's all for the better!

    For someone who has no Sound Editing experience. What would you suggest? Any tools, tricks or tips that could help me understand it more and train myself how to edit better?

    • @Laphin
      @Laphin  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      TheHalfricanDevil A lot of editing experience comes from trial and error in the ways you play and 'experience' yourself with the software. A lot of what I learned is from just 'playing'. As for how to USE the software. You can find everything and anything right here on youtube. Run into a specific hurdle or question, it can always be answered on youtube. :)

    just starting out... got inspired by watching booth junkie. Built my own booth and now have purchased all of the needed equipment. Published a book three month ago that took 11 years and decided to do voice over for it myself. So that will be my first project. Can you work full time and still have enough time to audition?
    Thank you for the advice!

    • @Laphin
      @Laphin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're always auditioning. Even celebrities audition... it's a process that is mandatory in this business so people can either see how SHIT you are, or how awesome you are. Always strive to impress. Otherwise, you will fall and stay at the bottom. Be BRILLIANT.. and never tolerate anything less than that. Figure out what you are awesome at, and stick with it. :D Keep up the good work!

    Suppose you live 4 hours away from Dallas but get hired for a Funimation series. Assuming you have a friend's place to crash at, how long does it typically take to record a 12-ish episode series so my friend knows about how long to expect my visit? I love my life in Tulsa, but I want to exist in both realms.

      Actually it's not bullshit. :3 I know plenty of clients who don't know anything about sound. They have you do it yourself. They'd rather concentrate on their own work rather than worry about trying to be an audio engineer.
