    He was definitely the real deal. I can see why he was chosen to play this part, I can see the fire and sincerity in his eyes and he was believable. I remember the first time I saw it, it was during the time you could stay in the theater and they didn't empty the theater - I stayed and watched it four more times. LOVED this man.

    What I love about Blaxplotation movies is that there not at all like today's movies: no special effects, no sensationalism, all they had to rely on was great stories of the many layers of Black America. And also great actors.

      True!
      Also the 1970s "Blacksploitation" films were about empowering of blacks today we unfortunately have Tyler Perry and "Precious" garbage....

      I agree, movies and television now portray blacks as ghetto or bafoonish. This trend began in the mid-1990's with Martin Lawrence and the Klumps films.I strongly believe that type of negative portrayal of blacks in the media made a huge impression on young people today. This is one of the reasons why black youth don't feel the need to vote or be politically aware. And (racists) whites are taking advantage of it. The main reason why police have waged war on black males is because they know these laws protect them. Any parent in their 30's, 40's, or 50's really needs to get their heads off Facebook, Instagram, Real Basketball Wives of Atlanta (WTF) and get involved in their kids futures while they still have one.

    I never knew he was a Shakespearean actor. He took this roll to another level and there's never been another one like him. Out of all the movies that I've seen where there were hustlers or drug dealers none of them had the style, the smoothness, or the intelligence that priest had. It was a movie that really made you think about life and what it was really about. My mom brought me to see this movie when I was 8 years old and although 10 years later I had my own drug issues I never got so deep because of this movie. I smoked and snorted but I would never shoot up because I couldn't forget that scene with Freddy having withdrawal symptoms in jail. I love the fashion in the swag of the characters it was a real reflection of how New York really was back then.

    Superfly was probably one of the best films of the 70s, period. Ron O’ Neal was the nucleus of the film. This film in the wrong hands would’ve sucked. Ron brought it to another level. You believed he was “Priest”. His walk, talk, swag. He made him VERY real. Unfortunately, cuz Hollywood is so stupid they couldn’t see Ron past Superfly. He was much more than that. It was the biggest thing that happened to him and he never topped this success again. It’s ok cuz this role is iconic.

Although I was born 2 years after this film, it was indeed a staple in my family and I am so thankful they inadvertently introduced me to your work (cause I used to sneak and watch it when the adults got together). You were such an intelligent, versatile, high skilled, articulate conscious brotha and although your corporeal body is no longer with us, your spirit will always live on through the great work that you did and passed on! Now that's a real legacy and immortality for ya. Peace and Blessing be unto you....

The soundtrack that Curtis Mayfield put to the movie was a masterpiece [just listening to it is like eyes for the blind]. The truth is that Ron O"Neal was a one hit wonder, and this movie was his only claim to fame. He was a very good actor, but I guess his mixed appearance hindered him from getting starring roles in black movies. (It was said that he lost the role of Shaft to Richard Roundtree because they felt he was too light.) But Super Fly was a classic movie that can still hold up today. If you can get past the fashion of clothes .lol
    RIP R.O.

      I've seen Ryan O'Neal in other movies and tv shows after Superfly... Red Dawn (1984) he played as a South American general that invaded America along with Russians, as well as TV shows in the 90's, He was also in Theater productions on Broadway before Superfly, Do your research buddy.....

      @lwmson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeopoldMaysonet I never said that the Super Fly was the only role on his acting resume, What I said is that it's the only one that was an actual hit. Yes, he appeared in films prior to that and appeared in other movies and TV shows thereafter. But he''l always be best remembered for Super Fly.

    You know that HollyWood weren't about to let a pretty Black Man get that far in the Game. Superfly was a Huge Hit I was in 1 or2nd grade when this film came out everybody was talking about it.
    I couldn't see the film Movie because of my age but...my classmates saw the movie and they said that it was Good

      I also was in the Second Grade when this movie was out. Never saw it myself during that time but my cousin and I used to bump the soundtrack at my aunt's place,(his mom). But it wasn't until I finally saw on VHS 20 years after its release. Saw it now 31 times. Its a terrific blaxploitation masterpiece with a bumping soundtrack of all time.
