- With the remnants of Hurricane Helene quickly approaching, Matt and Andy race to get fieldwork done before being rained out. Matt is still ripping ground and Andy is getting started planting cover crops. Matt shows how to calibrate a drill, talks about his plans to improve his soil structure, his cover crop mix, and shows off some replicated plots he's doing for tillage.

Smart A here you don’t need ponies you need some horses !!😂😂 thanks for the video Mr. Matt
It is commendable that you are building up rental land. Most farmers do the bare minimum or soil mining on rented farms.
Would like to get my hand on a ripper and work on some of my ground. Have some I know would help. Interested to see the results next year!
Them cover roots are gonna go deep into those rip slots! True soil management right there👍🏻
GOOD MORNING from Thessaloniki !!! GREECE
Matt, to rip that low ground that doesn't drain well, a big HP w/ deep ripper may be needed.
Great advice!!
Dewitt auction has a T8.140 coming up on auction
T8.410
Half Caff! I don't even know who you are!!!!!
U have to grow what keeps your farm profitable and area and climate dictate types seems like most guys grow just corn and beans. Nice to see some different rotations. You have probably explained your system but do you have a strict rotation or is it more soil type or estimated rate of return that u follow
he uses both, he rotates corn, beans, cotton, and on his worse ground he does his wheat. So it also depends on the soil.
Pretty strict rotation. Corn-cotton-wheat-doublecrop beans on 90% of my acreage
ripping will help ur yields.
Excellent narration there Matt, hope some of the younger farmers are paying attention,. A wealth of knowledge from someone who knows what they're doing.
Where are you getting all of your cover crop seed from?
First Farmers Co-Op in Henderson, TN
You need a different color pony. haha Why does one side of a drill always put out more than the other?
Each side has its own adjustment. Thus the reason for checking and calibrating both sides
I don't see the difference between the spiritual and physical. What applies to the practical also applies to the spiritual and vis a versa. "Who builds a house without first counting the cost". When you find a equipment salesman, a seed or fertilizer salesman that actually does care about your bottom line, hand on to them. There's an old saying, in order for the salesman to be in business 5 years from now, he has to keep you in business this year! I'm not sure the old keys to success still exist but I know that Biblical principles do.
More ox’s not horses 😊
Try a strip till rig contact kmc and see if they will let you demo one
If I used a strip till rig in our highly erodible ground, I would have a small gulley every 38”
We run a 12 row kmc strip till on 36 in spacing and it does a great job even on our hills that wash the cover it will run through helps when it’s in the ground 14 in deep it’s all a jd 370 wants
Would down sizing your ripper to a 5 shank be more cost effective, less slippage, more HP per shank, being able to pull it a little faster, better fuel economy
Not really
