The mental image shina being woken up by her mother so they could sing Bring Me to Life by Evanescence at 12 am on a school night is just so, so powerful
I have loved this show since its beginning. I am so glad that billy has been able to take it as his own and just keep making it better and better through every bump in the road it has faced. Keep it up!
Seriously! Not every episode of modern PST has been a banger but it really seems like the hosts are generally having way more fun with the podcast, which is fantastic! Pondering especially has become an unexpected favorite of mine.
I think that bear bit was the most this show has broken down into self referential nonsense lmao. 10/10 funniest gibberish I ever seen Edit: not gonna lie the TTS voice saying "I'm lying on the bathroom floor, please help me" unsettled the fuck out of me 29:09 for my personal reference

I swear there's something in the water in every strange out-of-way corner of America, every friend I've known with weird backwoodsy family is like this.
Billy, please reconsider that piercing shop. You should've been upright sitting for a septum. "Traditional " just means they don't use piercing guns (klairs) . They hand peirce with needles. (The correct way). Go to any tattoo parlor/piercer.
I just gotta say, Ive been a fan of PST for a long time, and its better now than it ever has been. The hosts seem more relaxed and like they're enjoying themselves more, Pondering is freaking anazing, and Brendan and Billy have become my fav duo. Congrats Billy, and the OST cast, and looking forward to the relaunch next year!
Why the hell would anybody call Billy a buzzkill for having human moments lol? Brendan's already had a gamer's dozen human moments on the podcast, as well as pretty much everyone that's part of the main hosts.
Playing devil's advocate, I understand that Billy brought the stuff with his dad up very suddenly in the last recording and in a way that may have been less entertaining that Brendan's outbursts, that can be argued I suppose, but who cares? "Let him cook." If everyone is sharing their baggage and talking about it in a podcast, there's no valid reason imo to criticize the delivery of that baggage/emotional family stuff, even on a podcast that's normally "funny haha entertainment". If it was part of a bit that became not-funny, that's one thing, but iirc when family was being brought up last recording the tone became more serious and that was pretty clear/evident. But maybe I'm not seeing things clearly from here, laying on the bathroom floor.
Yeah okay I'm about halfway through and I already can tell this is a certified modern classic, all those people who only listen to mandy episodes are missing out
Hearing Ed complain about a 50 year old fast forwarding through the movie reminds me of my dad (50+ yrs) flipping through channels to find something new after watching a show for 10 mins or less. Or radio stations.
When David was explaining his piercing story I was picturing SadMachine hanging upside down being terrified and looking all fucked up as he gets a needle stabbed into him
This podcast has such a chaotic aura, Brendan and Billy suddenly going full on serious about their lifes in the previous episode just felt like part of the course. I hope the mean comments won't discourage that.
Actually though, modern PST has had some middling episodes for sure (although imo even the least interesting stuff is still better than most of season 1) but there have been some absolute CLASSICS, like between this, man meat, the walls, the scrolls, and embezzlement there have been no shortage of all-timers
Ignore the weirdos who don’t like it when you guys talk about a serious topic every now and then. Always appreciate it when you guys try something new. Longtime listener here and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
Only listened to the last episode on spotify, so didin't know you got weird comments on the last episode sorry to hear about it dude, please keep up the great work if it helps to know i quite enjoyed the last episode, the serious talk was engaging
When Ed started talking about Goldilocks I totally thought he was bullshitting everyone. Then I realized that it's so similar to how people in Warhammer misremembered Goldilocks and the three bears.
45:00 why would you want to hurry through a show on a plane theres literally nothing else you have to do, i got to watch spiderverse 2 free on my last flight and it was great.
Yeah, no, whoever said such nonsense about being a buzzkill is having the big dumb dumb stupid idiot juice flowing in their veins. I really appreciated that moment, and I'm legitimately astonished that you got that reaction, even there, on the bathroom floor-
I really appreciated when you guys were real last episode, I just didn't comment about it. I Don't really want to talk about my life (especially not in a youtube comment, lol). Which is why I didn't comment to begin with, but it sorta made me feel better knowing others with similar-ish traumas have “survived” so to speak. But I Didn't know people were being dicks about it, I would have written one if I knew. So sry and thanks for the great content :>
Idk who was angry at you billy on the last episode. Idk if you guys deleted them (which im cool with idrc) or if the youtube algorhythm just gavee the positive ones. But i really felt that parasocial meter rising learning more about you. It was an honest and open moment that made me love this podcast more. Thanks for being real guys and shys
Goodness me, that must have been horrible, opening up and receiving blowback I mean. I cannot understand how someone can be be cryticised for literally just being a person with, while uncommon, normal human problems. My condolences.
Barely three minutes in, and Brendan's talking about witches. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that Brendan was secretly a witch. I'm not lying on the bathroom floor, but I WAS lying on the floor of my office in a Y-pose. Good for stretching these bones and pecs. As for little Brendan getting his T-shirt stolen, that reminds me of this one thrift store story I heard recently. This little kid saw a rare Bluey toy in the store, and was waddling over to go get it, when some lumbering grognard sniped it and started bragging about how he was gonna resell it, WHILE THE KID WAS NEXT TO HIM. People like that are basically scalpers, and scalpers don't deserve to have hair. Thankfully this story has a happy ending, since while the grognard didn't get rugby-tackled for being such a shithog, the person who posted the story gave the little kid this big plush animal, either a bear or a giraffe, and she was overjoyed. As for the arsehats calling Billy a "buzzkill", just because he was opening up about his abusive ex-dad last episode, THEY'RE the buzzkills. Not every episode needs to be a laugh a minute, and there's value in talking about fucked shit even if said fucked shit doesn't make you laugh. Sometimes we need to get sad, or get mad, 'cause it's not healthy to ALWAYS be glad.
If you want, don't be afraid of doing real conversions and talking about more serious topics. It's ironic for me to say but don't let us Commenters dictate how you fellas want to run your show. Go off. Love all your shit.
Billy, I really appreciate your willingness to be open about your personal problems on PST, the silliest podcast in the world. I hope you’re doing well. Let me know when you finally get those testicle piercings so we can be twinners
actually can better understand an older person skipping through media they're consuming moreso than a younger person. Like as you get older you've seen many tropes you get a general idea of what's going on in a story without having to see every moment of what's presented. That said, Aaron Carter is related to one of the members of one of those boy bands from back in the day so like... maybe the guy had a relative who was a fan and wanted him to watch some sort of weird Aaron Carter documentary.... which was episodic for some reason? Yeah I'd probably skip through segments of that, too. It'd have to be pretty compelling to get me to watch it but I am a fan of Neil Cicierega who is actually the reason I even know anything about Aaron Carter - the kid who sang a song about beating Shaq in a 1 on 1 basketball game.
In normal circumstances I'd be listening to this at 1.1x speed at least but I'm folding laundry while listening and don't want to do that thing where I miss a phrase, get confused, skip back ten seconds just to have my brain finish processing and then get stuck listening through it again anyway.
ok now I'm confused. something aaron carter and then the same thing was a spy thriller of some sort? Was it Agent Cody Banks or something? Did Aaron Carter star in that?
omfg the show is called "Who is Erin Carter" I just looked it up on netflix. I had looked up Aaron Carter on wikipedia first and apparently he died after doing some drugs in his bathtub and drowned. Good lord.

Either that, or she's in a Junji Ito comic. I mean, her ostrich story sounded like an excerpt from an Ito one-shot, where she saw "the death of everything" in the gaping maw of what looked like an ostrich, but was probably a tamed Crow Mauler. I imagine a series of panels where Shina wakes up and stares in terror at her bedroom window. Then as you turn the page (because the page-turn is a potent tension-builder in comics), you see the "ostrich" looking in from outside the window. And for added horror, there would have been a series of panels showing her climbing the stairs to her ATTIC ROOM.

I feel like the bathroom floor text is the birth of a new copy pasta. All we need now is a dramatic reading of it from Gianni Matragrano.
We need someone to commission him now
