I'll be checking out the UPstile surround product but would also like to have be more specific information on the window trim material/product. I looked up synthetic wood per one of your responses shown below and came up with Trex like products as well as real wood trim. Your sill & trim appear very shiny like a plastic of some kind. Thank you
I'm thinking about doing this myself. I just have a couple inches to take off to make it work, but it's a very long window. And I'm curious what the best cutting method is to avoid tearing. Any suggestions?? Thanks, the job looks great!
Hey Jon, this kit says actual size 32.5 inches for a 32 inch space. This may sound like a dumb question but is the extra half inch somewhere tucked in the rear wall or on the front lip? My space (before taking out my drywall) is right at 32 inches. I just don’t want to order this and have a lip hanging over. Install looks great!
We have a tub/shower w/window just like the one in this video. All 4" tiles...including many small pieces to surround the window. Unfortunately, water got in around those sm tile pieces & leaked into the wall. Would like to tear it all out & replace with something like UPstile. That window is a pain in the you-know-what, but removing it isn't easy (2nd floor bathroom...pain to match the vinyl siding, etc). SO, we're looking at cutting UPstile around the window (which would be above the tile recess area). 1. I want to secure the window surround w/fewest # of pieces (to minimize chance of water intrusion again). I looked on Home Depot website for a window surround like what you used but am overwhelmed by the choices. What do you recommend? And do you use something like Power Grab adhesive to bind the surround to the perimeter wall & UPstile? I'm trying to figure out how that part works. 2. Have you (or one of your viewers) had success using UPstile w/an existing tub (diff brand but size matches reqmts)? Any issues getting the pieces to mate? 3. We discovered lots of mold on the insulation & wood behind the wall. Can remove the insulation. Can spray bleach on the wood (not rotten...solid). After bleaching, is that good enough?? Short of replacing the wood (which doesn't seem necessary), I don't see that you'll perfectly remove every speck of mold. As long as it's treated & there's no further water/moisture intrusion, we should be OK, right? Why do people bleach & then use something like "Kilz"? Sorry...I know this is a really long post. Maybe other people have the same questions. Appreciate your input, Jon!
I have a one piece bathtub with surround and the owners husband built a window that goes lower than the surround. The owner wants to cut the surround to fit the window what did you use to cut the surround? And how do you seal it around the window?
Hi Toni Use a grinder with a cut off blade Use synthetic wood for a Sill Extend the sill out at least a quarter inch farther than the surround So any water that gets on it will fall off and into the tub Use synthetic trim and wrap the whole window
Really nice Job on this Jon - I'm looking at doing something similar to this. I have an old house & an existing wood window that needs to be replaced so I'm going to fill it in with glass blocks (Home Depot type with all the horizontal/vertical reinforcements/tracks & using silicone adhesive) for privacy. Do you think the window trim you used in your video would work to finish off these glass blocks? BTW I brought up your Home Depot link below but it doesn't look like what's in your video - could you list the part # & place you picked this trim up at for what you used in the video? Thanks Jon.
Tim M hi Tim I do wish I could get that stuff because I could use it on a few jobs but it came with the job it was already installed on the old system I just reused it it was a "rebath" system so that company buys it from somebody and has their installers use it I never found it before but it would be nice to get if you ever do find it put a link to it here but anyway I just got done using the synthetic trim from Home Depot and it was absolutely fantastic just like real wood but not it won't rot it won't mold never needs painting absolutely perfect
Hi Ronna Go to my Facebook website or my website Jon Hughes Construction there you can see different shower options I would replace it with flexstone instead and yes I would spray it with expensive bleach the kind with very little water in it and do it a couple different times trying to get it in all the cracks and yes as long as it stays dry from here on out it won't grow back and then use synthetic wood from Home Depot and synthetic molding and use 100% white silicone to finish it off and as long as you apply it correctly you'll have no more leaks
I wish I could find that window trim it came with the window I was replacing an old system and it had the trim already on so I just reused it but I have no idea where they got it
leb827827 hey brother I used some trim that they previously had around their window and just utilized it for my window but if I was to do it again I would use that cool trim over at Home Depot the 1x's and the actual trim are made out of synthetic materials so it would work super awesome next time I'll do that :-) I'll put a link to it at the bottom here Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing: Royal Mouldings 5445 9/16 in. x 2-1/4 in. x 7 ft. Thanks for the quick answer. I am also wondering what suggest to apply the trim with so it would fill in the small grooves in the surround that give it the tile look to make it totally waterproof.

How did you adhere the tile to the surround? Everything i read about the UPstile installation says not.to use mastic or other compounds, looking for advice. Thanks

I wish I could help but it came with the window and I just utilized it for my surround I have no idea who makes it
What did you use to trim the window out?
Pretty much a SPONGE! Guy is an idiot.
YES! I was looking for an install with a window!!!

I have an old farm house with tiny bathroom and don’t want to loos window.

I'm thinking about doing this myself. I just have a couple inches to take off to make it work, but it's a very long window. And I'm curious what the best cutting method is to avoid tearing. Any suggestions?? Thanks, the job looks great!
Use a four inch grinder with a masonry cut off wheel

Did that Window Trim come a s a Kit ?
I wish I could find that window trim
it came with the window
I was replacing an old system
and it had the trim already on
so I just reused it
but I have no idea where they got it
Do you use power grab to install the trim around the window?
That would work
but since you already have Dap Amp
you might as well use it
nothing else will stick to acrylic
except Dap Amp
All these videos a great but none show the shower/wall flush with the window and no sill.
What are you looking for ???
I can't figure out what you're actually asking ???
Where did you get the trim kit for the window?
Go to Home Depot and buy synthetic wood and trim

Hi, what did you use to cut the back panel?
It cuts very easily with a metal cut off blade on a 4" grinder
Deut 18:15 Moses speaking…15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear… Fulfilled: Matt 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Use the same Sealant that is called for on all the seams
which is Dap 3.0
Silicone will not stick to this acrylic
Also consider using vinyl flooring instead of tile if your using vinyl flooring on the floor it will match perfectly with your shower
