ABOUT THIS FEED:
The tracks closest to the roadway are CSX's Monon Subdivision, the former Monon Railroad (a.k.a., the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville RY), which hosts Amtrak's "Cardinal" thrice-weekly between Chicago and Washington, D.C. Lafayette is a station stop for the "Cardinal" (station code LAF); the station is out of camera view to the south (camera right).
The further tracks are Norfolk Southern's Lafayette District, the former Wabash Railroad.
Out of camera view to the north (left) is CSX's Lafayette Terminal, and to the east is NS's Lafayette East Yard.
Also in Lafayette out of camera view to the south, there is a junction with the Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern Railroad, which runs west out of town over the former Nickel Plate Road (NKP; a.k.a., the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad); the former NKP east out of town is still owned by NS, as the Frankfort Branch.
There are roughly 20 trains per 24 hours on NS, and roughly 4 trains per 24 hours on CSX. The speed limit for CSX in this terminal area is 20 MPH.
