I've not read the book myself so I have no idea whether or not I think the decision-making is realistic, but I know Heatwave is a French book, so it might be contextually worthwhile to know that duty to rescue is a part of French law and applies to civilians (the corresponding crime could be translated as "non-assistance to a person in danger"), so someone who stands by while a person commits suicide is in fact legally liable and can be imprisoned for up to 5 years for it. It might not make the choice believable either, just thought it might add some context to it :)
Haha I suppose he has earned that privilege. I actually feel a bit harsh with the criticism as, to be fair to him; he is a strong enough writer, that even the long winded build up was still very enjoyable.
Character stereotypes and obvious author bias coming through the characters. Everyone has bias, granted, but when that bias is obviously against a group of people, you've lost me.
Yeah I completely agree there. The odd character can be understandable as you can’t make everyone perfect incase they are linked to a certain group, but in some cases you see lots of trends or flagrant clear stereotyping. Particularly prevalent with classic books.

Ah that’s a really interesting point! Thanks for that.
Not surprised Stephen King took his sweet time to get to the point. He’s gotten so long winded in the last thirty years.
