I love that place . Entering into it is like entering natures cathedral. So peaceful and cooler instantly. The sound of the wind tjrough the palm fronds and the music of the birds is just so nice.

I’m a registered geologist in Southern California and absolutely love these videos! So fun to hear your “simplified” geologic explanations. And your humor is great! Thanks!

I love studying Geology and watch many videos. You showed up on my recommendations recently and I am about half way through all your videos. I love your style and wit that you bring. Some videos are very dry but you make them enjoyable and I have learned a lot. Thank you and I look forward to more!

I really enjoy your videos. I had no idea 1000 Palms was more than just the strange outcrop of palm trees. Though I live in WA , I have not spent much time in Cali yet. Because of your videos I do have plans to get down there and visit several of your video sites. Amazing geology you have shown us. I was glad to see you in the Zentnerds live chat too. Thank you for what you are doing and sharing these videos. I look forward to the next.

Thank you, Todd, for another great video! It's neat to learn new things about my old homestate, and you have a wonderfully fun teaching style; keep on sharing what you learn! We appreciate it.

I think that was possibly your best, so far. I’ve now watched most of your videos and I really love them. I’ve learned a lot! Thanks! I’m trying to find out more about San Onofre breccia and I’d love it if you went down to Dana Point Harbor and walked around the point at low tide and talked about the bluffs there. Be sure to go all the way to the sea caves. I think you could do an epic video there. Thanks! Keep it coming!

I have been in this place SO many times! One visit, as my gf and I sat on a nearby stump or rock, we watched as multiple Southern Pacific Rattlesnakes emerged from the brush, and crawled over to well-hidden spots to lie in wait of prey, small furry rodents... mice, rats, etc. They use the lure of fresh water in a searing desert, in their hunting. It was really cool to watch.
Likewise, on the other side of the 'hill', there is another 'oasis', Fortynine Palms Oasis. Really beautiful area, full of water, pools, and wildlife. Desert Tortoises abound in this area.

You did this with the other grasses that grow in the clay, while other shrubs grow in the sand. That was amazing. Even a piezoelectric hardhead could get a spark of enlightenment. Now, of course, palms always find oasis and surface water zones. Fault lines with running water or springs would also have plants and trees growing in those zones. Bio-geology - a new science for geologists in finding rocky understandings !

In desert hot springs ( 10 miles north of Palm springs). The hot springs kind of follows the fault line that runs across the town at a angle

That is so cool!!!! It's great to hear about how biology can reflect the geology. Thank you so much and your sense of humor deserves a prize, plus I really like your hat. Huh....plants reflecting a fault....so d_____ cool!

Great video Todd, keep them coming. And BTW we have a similar thing here in Arizona. Montezuma Well, another analog of water coming up thru a fault from sandstone too. TWO THUMBS UP !!

Todd, this is awesome! Love the fun! The interaction! And seeing palm stands with wiser eyes! BTW, I have totally had talks with cholla cactus while out roaming deserts. Mostly offering them respect for their awesome adaptations to living where they do. AND give them their space with respect cause cholla spines can be hike enders.

Interesting, I saw you in the live chat on one of Nick Zentner's videos and thought I would check out your channel, pretty cool, when I was younger and living in Southern California I would head out that way quite a bit. I look forward to watching more of your videos, keep up the great work.

I got nervous that you are waving your arms close to that cactus. I've seen too many people get stuck by those needles. Some of them have been known to "jump". It's extremely painful.

    Plant notes:
    0:18 _Cylindropuntia echinocarpa_ (silver cholla).
1:14 _Washingtonia filifera_ (CA fan palm).
6:23 Gasp. Deeply offended as a botanist that anyone would even consider that position.. 😂
